Best winter boots for school run?

AnnieMated · 20/10/2011 19:08

I'm in dire need of a new pair of boots, mainly for the school run to be honest and kicking around in at the weekends - was so flipping cold this morning and my feet looked beyond tragic in little nude patent ballet pumps.

Basic criteria are no heels, warm, long lasting and under a hundred quid. Oh and brown if possible and definitely not black or UGGS.

Front runners are currently these: www.schuh.co.uk/rocket-dog/womens-dark-brown-rocket-dog-sugar-daddy/1503336150

I'm also tempted by a pair of navy blue/duck egg Hunters with the big fleece sock liner things for extra warmth.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions please? :)

If you could stretch the 100 quid - then I would recommend anything by Merrell . Bloody fantastic boots - I got Merrell Prevoz and they are so warm and durable. Will last several years and brilliant on ice and snow.

gracerowansmum · 21/10/2011 11:38

I just bought these, wore this am for first time - not my usual kind of thing but I wanted something different and bright...

They were comfortable and I got lots of positive comments in the playground! :-)

Ariesgirl · 21/10/2011 11:38

(bet we get a really mild winter now)

thing1andthing2 · 21/10/2011 11:59

Just bought the most amazing pair of snow boots by Merrell which meet your criteria, RRP £135 but get them for £70 here
So comfy right from putting them on for the first time and really warm and waterproof to boot.
I got my normal shoe size (6) and they fit perfectly. You pull them on like wellies so you have to get used to them being a bit loose round the heel/ankle but that doesn't result in them rubbing because they are lined with fleece. Can't rate them highly enough Grin

thing1andthing2 · 21/10/2011 12:01

Dur sorry just read through post and realised you have already been recommended these (yarra). Definitely buy them! Grin

I've had three pairs of those Rocket Dog sugar daddy boots now (last three winters) and whilst they are extremely warm/comfortable-like a previous poster said-they wear down on the inside. The outside is fine and has a sturdy thick rubber sole (unlike Ugg-style boots which wear down on the outside) but after a few months on all the pairs I've had-I wear down the inside of each boot in the middle and end up with back ache where I've been walking in an odd way!

I want another pair, but know it will happen again! I'm wondering about the honey pup ones instead

Or these?

I have a pair of brown DMs which are fine, but I really like the chestnut colour!

RIZZ0 · 21/10/2011 12:02

I just got these Rocket Dog Racetrak Boots

And I LOVE them! Had so many compliments, wearing them up today, but they looked great folded down with baggy socks and the heel is very light and rubbery.

Really wanted to get away from everything UGG-ish (already got similar anyway) and something that wouldn't go soggy in the rain.

Best bit is the order is still fulfilled by Shuch but you get free delivery ordering from Amazon. They came the next day.

fergoose · 21/10/2011 12:08

I agree I had those Rocket Dogs last year as a birthday present from the dog for dog walking :) and they are just about worn through. Really comfy and warm though and great in the snow and ice.

Ariesgirl · 21/10/2011 12:15

I WANT some of those Merrell boots NOW.

How did you get them for seventy quid?

josieangel · 21/10/2011 12:33

RIZZO and fergoose with the Rocket Dog Racetrak's - can you tell me how these boots fit?

I love them, am usually between a 6 or a 7, do you know whether they tend to be on big or small side?

Thanks!

LoveInAColdGrave · 21/10/2011 12:36

I have Fitflop knee boots - a bit orthapedic looking but good god are they comfortable. Lived in them last winter, doing the same so far this autum and winter.

LoveInAColdGrave · 21/10/2011 12:37

Oh, sorry, missed the under £100 bit. But they have been a good investment - the cost per wear must be tiny the amount I've worn them.

lisfinn · 21/10/2011 12:39

gumbies.....you cant go wrong

maverick · 21/10/2011 12:47

I've got a pair of these in a dark blue colour with a red lining -arrived in the post today -and they are gorgeous and very cheap:

mylittleponypinkypie · 21/10/2011 13:49

Doc Martens? :D Mine are waterproof (except for the tongue/lace up bit)
And warm with decent socks.

AWimbaWay · 21/10/2011 13:54

If anyone's a size 4 buy these merrell oslo boots They're £145 on the merrell site. I have them from last year, the comfiest, warmest, grippiest boots ever!

OhCobblers · 21/10/2011 14:23

i love pretty much everything on this website and think their boots are nice than Uggs www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/footwear/

HermanMumster · 21/10/2011 14:33

My 11 year old has nicked my shearling lined Hunters.

reading this thread avidly.

HarriedWithChildren · 21/10/2011 14:37

I'm getting the Lands End Powder Run ones in brown, £80. A touch of the gran perhaps but ooooh the fur.
Sorry can't link.

Wordweaver · 21/10/2011 16:17

I second AWimbaWay on the Merrell Oslo boots. I have Raynaud's syndrome in my feet - basically they just get incredibly cold and then stay that way for hours - and these stop it happening. They are so comfortable and without them I would not have made it outside during that massive snowfall last December.

jollymollie · 21/10/2011 16:26

read the 'New Look Boots for a tenner' thread. Definately my best buy Smile
