Blackduck Envy

I am rather fatigued today, after an evening I can only describe as Schadenfreudesque Grin. Although I have managed a substantial amount of singing practice, and made a curry for later next week* and helped DD2 make a cake and also cooked two meals (DP is doing t'ai chi tonight). Very easy meals, mind. Thank heavens for ready-made Posh Meatballs.

*Paneer and spinach. Frozen chopped spinach works marvellously in this.

Blackduck · 13/11/2011 19:57

I know - I am trying not to be too smug :)
Have cooked two meals for later in the week (this is VERY organised for me), went to get photos for visa, did second house viewing (she kept referring to it as 'my house' so offer pending I guess, just depends on how doable it is. But feeling mega tired and realised haven't had a period in months.....
Also with the going away lark the Christmas pressure is now on as I need to get everything done in the next couple of weeks (I am not complaining mind :) )

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/11/2011 21:20

LOL at your Schadenfreudesque evening, MI!

I made some mincemeat this weekend - Nigella's rhubarb and vanilla one. I still have a jar of chocolate mincemeat left from last year, and will make some of the more trad stuff next weekend. Am not bothering with Christmas cake this year as we still have a lump of last year's in the tin. Maybe we'll have a stollen instead.

Envy at Blackduck. We never go away at Christmas. If people want to see us, they can come to us. We've done with the drive from one end of Bucks to another to see relations.

Stropperella · 14/11/2011 12:18

Yo crepeys! I do not have a Christmas plan yet, but I have started my shopping. We will end up seeing my family as usual, most likely, especially as it's my brother's year to see us rather than his inlaws. Dh's family are all either dead or estranged, so no difficult choices there :) Dd announced last week that she had converted to Buddhism, so I'm glad I haven't bought her presents yet Grin. However, as her meditation practice doesn't seem to be going too well , I am fairly confident that she will have re-converted to fence-sitting agnosticism by the end of this week.

I am completely behind with everything. Coursework that needs doing for now-ish, several work deadlines looming... Dh was supposed to be "minding" ds for a short time yesterday afternoon when I went out to do dull but necessary shopping and I came back to find my big work computer completely and utterly knackered as ds had been amusing himself by downloading crap from some dodgy games site (which claims to be something related to CBBC, but in fact isn't). Where was dh? Well, sitting at the next desk in the office, but Not Paying Attention. Gah. Anyway, cue monster strop from Stropps, not least because I have warned them both about this kind of thing on numerous occasions. Dh had to stay up until 1am fixing the computer and ds has been banned from even touching my machine unless under very close supervision. And I couldn't work this AM, because I was invigilating. And now dh is hyperventilating about his deadlines as well.

wilbur · 14/11/2011 13:14

Gosh strops, don't blame you for meltdown about your computer - that's a nightmare! I hate that deadline looming feeling - "and miles to go before I sleep" and even though I know it will all be fine, the sun will be shinier and the sky will be bluer when it's done, I still get in a state.

Have managed to catch up with all the recent posts here and must say thank you for the quick meal ideas. I am appropriating several. And I had forgotten about smoked mackerel - all the dcs love fish, but I haven't tried them on that yet, bet they'd love it. I have a sort of love/hate relationship, mostly I love it but every now and then I come over all yuck about it - years ago, I was in hosp for a big operation and was nil by mouth and on a drip for about 5 days afterwards. When I was finally allowed food, after not eating for nearly a week, they gave me a smoked mackerel salad Hmm which was quite a taste explosion, I can tell you.

Things are sort of progressing with our house move, although mortgage people want so much paperwork and detail these days (which is as it should be) that I am planning to wee into a jar and send it in just in case they need further info about me.

MI - hope your hangover is gone now - I'm impressed by the stamina!

DukesOfTripHazard · 14/11/2011 13:38

Waitrose and Morrisons smoked mack is nicest I find. Sainsburys too salty.

bigTillyMint · 14/11/2011 14:01

No, no, no! Our fish-man with the van has definitely absolutely the best smoked mackerel - venture our way on a Saturday morning, DukesWink

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2011 15:34

Wee in a jar....Grin

Good to hear things are progressing though, Wilbur.

ruby - no - that would be impossible Hmm

wilbur · 14/11/2011 18:36

Ooh, yes, a crepey pregnancy, that would be fabulous viewed from a distance.

bigTillyMint · 14/11/2011 18:58

BD, sadly I think it's just meno symptoms! I have done enough preg tests in the not so distant past to know that there is more than one reason for feeling tired and a non-appearing period, despite all the scare-mongering on hereWink

motherinferior · 14/11/2011 20:03

Cue rant...

I am bloody knackered and am dealing with Silly Emails from Mail on Sunday subs asking stuff that hey, I do not know any more because guess what I wrote this feature a year ago and have Moved On Angry and frankly if they'd run it when I wrote it, etc etc etc...

Am also feeling somewhat Angry because at the moment I am, really, carrying most child-related stuff, certainly during the week. Not all of it, certainly, and not at the weekend, but DP is very overloaded and has been working late a lot and is going to Turin for a conference tomorrow Envy and all in all I am the person who remembers stuff. You know, the Stuff like paying for school trips and organising to go to parents' evening and worrying about the fact DD1's maths is only just above DD2's (so not appalling, but not fabulous either) and what to feed us all for tea. And my job is not as full-on as DP's but I am, in fact, supposed to be writing a book. Two books, in fact. And the odd feature as well. And I would like, my lovely friends, for someone else to be the person who walks in through the door at 6.15 and sorts out supper.

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2011 20:16

And......breeeeeathe, MI.

I feel your pain. In fact, I think every one of us on this thread probably does the lion's share of the "Stuff" - I know I do. DH is off to Milan on Wednesday, coincidentally......

Although I have just read the riot act to DH, and it is he who is currently helping DD2 with her homework, for once, while I mess about on MN!

DukesOfTripHazard · 14/11/2011 20:39

BTM do you really have a Saturday fish man, how fab?

Here too with the lion's share of Remembering Household Things.

However, no work so what else have I got to do

Am meant to be writing spec comedy script for no-one in particular but am plagued by the usual bunch of self-defeating messages.

Could someone just say something encouraging/inspiring (ass kicking even) even if they don't really mean it Grin

Dukes, you are a fabulous funny creative woman. Get on with it Grin

(says dame who has managed to write nothing tonight...)

Stropperella · 14/11/2011 21:16

Just do it, Dukes :)

My DH is going nowhere, as I have superglued him to his office chair in Part 2 of the Dire Retribution (see post above re: knackered computer - now mended, but hey, I'm milking this one...). This obviously means that he cannot put the rubbish out tonight. Oh whoops, I forgot, he hasn't ever done that anyway.

Blackduck · 14/11/2011 21:28

Life member of the Remebering Stuff club here. A friend put her partner down as the parent mail contact, but he still doesn't do/remember stuff (and once left ds at after school club when he was supposed to be collecting...). I have refused to go beyond immediate family however, ie me, dp, ds and the hound, and could not tell you when MILs birthday is and do not do presents for dp's side of the family.....
But having said that I do all school stuff and my morning is a list of 'don't forget....'

Blackduck · 14/11/2011 21:29

Dukes you write comedy - wow...impressed (get ON with it :) h

Stropperella · 14/11/2011 22:39

We use a joint business address as the parentmail contact (my plan was: dh sees it - dh has to deal with it). All that happens is that he prints the email out and leaves it on my desk for me to deal with. Grin

herbaceous · 14/11/2011 22:50

Dukes - feel the fear and do it anyway! Or is it 'fear the feel and do it anyway'.

Blackduck · 15/11/2011 08:10

Stropps - I did a wry smile of recognition there....

It's like the old joke:
Child: Dad, where's the Himalayas?
Dad: I don't know, ask your mother, she will have seen them last. (Hollow Boom Boom...)

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2011 08:54

Yes, all horribly familiar - every woman I know says the same. I am lucky in that I only work 3 days, so in theory have 2 days to take up the slack.

Dukes, the fish-man is not "mine" - he is on the NCR market on Saturdays, outside the 7-11 (actually I think it's called Budgens express now!) He is lovely and his fish is great (and half the price of the ponce-ville fishmongers along the roadWink)

DukesOfTripHazard · 15/11/2011 14:06

Oh I know where you mean, BTM, I will try him. Just up the road from there I got some vastly reduced and delicious sushi at Saturday shop closing time which is a good idea too.

You lot have inspired me to defrost my freezer. Fish fillets in there from 2008 Blush

Thanks to those who responded. I am Getting On With It today!
