You are spot on, MI. I have a lot of clothes which don't really fit, due to my just picking up the biggest size. I have opaque tights which could fit the whole family plus the cats, and Unflattering Dresses. I think the jeans could be doing with being at least one size smaller, possibly two.

Blackduck · 12/11/2011 11:41

Oh what fillums? Hope it's a wonder life is one :)
We might have a buyer for house (tries to act all nonchelant and not get excited incase it doesn't happen). Yes, bastard foreigners only broadcasting in their language - path!

DukesOfTripHazard · 12/11/2011 12:02

Herbs, that's a beautiful bag whichever way you slice it.

CV I found that too re: the difference between colours of same sizes in Levis Curve. HOWEVER DD's had loads of time on their tethers due to just having been fed and promised something nice after I had spent A Long Time trying on jeans. I heart my demi curve skinnes (think it was deffo me, MI). They are incredibly light and flattering and comfortable and non falling downish.

I think I need to try again with the Levis, but will take a solo shopping trip next time.

Last night I went to an M&S Christmas Shopping evening with my sis (oh, the glamour). Christmas shopping is somehow more civilised with a small glass of fizz in one hand. I bought loads of stuff (not much for me, alas), and the lovely shopping assistant took pity on me for leaving my vouchers at home and gave me 20% off anyway.

On the subject of Christmas films, the one I adore is Polar Express. There's something about it......no idea what, but it's so atmospheric

Yes MrsS, what are the cheesy films - I do like a cheesy film at times!

Just done a major Christmas shop - spent a fortune, but it was fun Smile
Plus I got my make-up done in Space NK - VERY relaxing!.

BTW, what is a kittle bag?

I love Polar Express too! We also have Elf, Miracle on 34th Street and Santa Claus. I have ordered It's A Wonderful Life, White Christmas, One Magic Christmas, Most Wonderful Time of the Year and The Christmas Star. We also have something else, name escapes me, but something like Christmas Story, that was recommended on here. Will that be enough, do you think? Grin

Was that supposed to be a little bag? If not, what is a kittle bag?

Blackduck · 12/11/2011 17:52

Oh yes MrsS, can I come round? I am persona non grata at home as have told parents we are not coming home for Christmas....... I am a Hag FGS how come they still make me feel guilty about this?
Second viewing tomorrow :) (calm down black duck, they will make crap offer and it won't happen...)

bigTillyMint · 12/11/2011 17:55

LOL, I thought it might be "the" new shape! I didn't even notice the kovelyBlush

BD, don't feel bad - DH and I have never been home to either parents since DD was born. It is definitely the way to go!

I don't know One Magic Christmas, Most Wonderful Time of the Year and The Christmas Star. Off to Google!

motherinferior · 12/11/2011 18:13

I have cruised the charity shopppes of SE6 and SE26, and have found another charcoal grey garment (a Gap wool/lycra bib-front dress, woven not knit, will look vg with leggings). Worn, as is my wont, with various bits of jewellery. Rather disconcertingly, Mr Inferior has learned in recent years to pick lovely jewellery, much admired by friends and colleagues (and even my mum, who in any case thinks he is a Nice Asian Boy and can do no wrong).

He was however predictably unimpressed with dress Grin.

bigTillyMint · 12/11/2011 18:23

MI. I am very impressed with your charity shopping - I am useless at it. Mainly because I never think to go into charity shops!

MrsS, they all look suitably cheesy - I particularly fancy the last twoBlush

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/11/2011 18:40

I want to have a day off work before Christmas and watch them all in one sitting. With a large bowl of popcorn and a bottle of Coke. I have no idea what they are like but they were all a) cheap and b) highly rated on Amazon. Oh we also have Santa Paws which is rubbish.

I used to do charity shopping in UK and came out with some fab stuff for DD2. But v little for me. DD1 found a pair of seven for all mankind jeans in a charity shop for a fiver when we were back in UK in the summer.

Blackduck · 12/11/2011 18:45

I feel you need to schedule in a trip to see 'Arthur christmas' just to round it all off

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/11/2011 08:47

Blackduck - there's nothing like parents for piling on the guilt. My mother agreed grudgingly to come to us for Christmas (DD1, who is nice to everyone, said "Does she have to come? There is always a horrible atmosphere when she's here and she always upsets DD2." My mother clearly did not want to come and spend Christmas with her only daughter and grandchildren (she can't stand DH!), but did not want to stay on her own or go to a hotel either. I would add that she has three brothers and a sister, all of whom refuse point blank to have her to stay on the grounds that she always manages to upset at least one person, if not the whole gathering!

motherinferior · 13/11/2011 10:11

Bother. Thought I had a feature in YOU magazine today. On homeless women. Wrote it a year ago, mind, the subs rang me to find out any updates: I gave them the numbers for the relevant press officers, but slightly suspect the interviewees have reverted to their former booze troubled lives.

motherinferior · 13/11/2011 10:12

(I've been paid, which in my world matters rather more...)

herbaceous · 13/11/2011 10:17

Ooh MI. That's still pretty glam. Not only consumer, but Sunday consumer.

I'm trying to decide what to do if/when I go back to work. What I really like doing, and what I'm good at, is sub-editing. I pretty much rule at turning a pig's ear into a silk purse. But feel I should be more ambitious. Held a couple of editor's positions before DS, and quite liked the power, but not the responsibility. Or managing people. Or the endless admin. Or the marketing aspect.

Re Christmas, GODDDDD. After many months of machinations, passive/aggressive tactics from BiL and 'mis-remembered' details from my mum, which results in progressive moving of goalposts, we're going to have xmas morning at ours, then go to my parents' for the afternoon and food, and stay for boxing day when Sis and brood will turn up. I'd love to have an xmas just the three of us, but I have a 'difficult' brother who would spend xmas if no-one invites him. Maybe we need our own 'official' Christmas day, like the Queen and her birthdays, for the three of us to enjoy alone.

motherinferior · 13/11/2011 10:18

I am going to go and talk to DP about Christmas

Blackduck · 13/11/2011 11:53

I shall be sitting on a beach with ds and dp.....

Yes, we will be at home, having Christmas dinner cooked by me. ......Tis the same here every year. Infact, it's the same every bllody dayGrin

Beach sounds really good - DH grew up down-under, so he is used to Christmas in the sun (or wind and rain as he lived near windy Wellington!)

CointreauVersial · 13/11/2011 14:55

We have three sets of parents between us (as mine are divorced/remarried) and can normally assume at least two sets will be doing the "wounded and unwanted" act each December if it's not their turn to come to us for Christmas.

But bizarrely, all three sets have found better places to go this year - how dare they? I felt a little bit "nobby-no-mates" for...ooooo....five minutes at least, and now we have made arrangements to go to my sister's for lunch. She's just down the road and has two girls of similar age to the DDs and BIL cooks a better turkey than I ever could.

It doesn't feel right just being the five of us at Christmas - I like a nice family social.

Anyway, hot on the heels of Chums, yesterday I received through the post a personally addressed copy of the Damart catalogue. Hmm DH and I seem to have made it onto some sort of crepey mailing list. The clothes were absolutely shocking, but I did linger on the thermal underwear page for just a bit longer than I should. The thermal long-johns were strangely appealing. I also read with great interest the flyer about how we seniors need to take care in the cold weather.

herbaceous · 13/11/2011 15:14

After all my bitching, xmas will be rather fun. My parents are inviting some of their friends too, to leaven the atmosphere, and having all the kiddies together will be great.

I get all tense, as dad's got alzheimers, and it makes me so sad to see him so forgetful he can't even be in charge of drinks - his main 'role' at Christmas. He forgets he's got glasses out, forgets he's already put three bottles of wine on the table and opens three more, etc etc. I think maybe I'll leap into the breach and have that as my task, so I don't have to watch and be sad.

Blackduck · 13/11/2011 15:41

Our problem has always been 'mine or yours?' before ds we would go our separate ways and have christmas with our own families, then ds arrived and of course both sets want to see him, and unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they live close enough that you have to do both. So it ends up being highly stressful (mostly on dp who would rather not bother). We went home last year because dp's sister had breast cancer and we really didn't know what might happen so felt we ought to do the big family thing. We were just going to stay at home this year, until dp spotted some ridiculously cheap flights to Goa and felt it would be churlish to pass them up :)
