Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

I am never trusting make up from San Francisco again (Beneshit is from San Fran as well as BE, and I loathe Beneshit with a vengeance) Grin

I should have listened to AnnetteProfit 5 pages back Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:10

Can you get oranges in Rotherham ??

Grin

Sounds like it's simply wronger than a wrong'un for the dry-of-skin.

Which kind of figures really, as I came to it after having seen a succession of pictures that looked like I'd coated my face in baby oil then prodded it with red lipstick here and there, just for jolly japes Hmm

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 14:10

ahem

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 14:11

the thing is i DONT WANT to look matt or airbrushed

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:14

Neither do bloody I, not having seen the results.

I think though that of all the foundations that I have ever really rated, they have been lighter than light and probably not much heavier than tinted moisturiser, tbh.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:15

Getorf/Annette do you have good skin??

Cos the words 'tinted moisturiser' make me shudder with terror. I wish more than anything I could get away with it, but I simply couldn't - honestly, my skin is that bad, and worse...

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 14:16

spose so
dry though

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:17

(at one point I came over all stoical and insisted that my appearance was neither HERE NOT THERE and I was going to go out AS NATURE INTENDED, so I did without makeup for about 3 days. Every five minutes at work someone would grab my arm and say, in tones of throbbing concern: Jodie, my dear, are you well? Should we call a cab? You look terrible Grin )

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:18

Very clear skin, yes, apart from lilac shadows under my eyes, never had spots and don't have open pores. Downside is that is as dry as a riverbed if I don't look after it.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:20

Ah, well there you - I think the main thing about BE is that it is quite heavy makeup, so if you have good skin and don't need it, it's a waste of hard-earned shillings and will look and feel nothing if not nugatory...

I am just happy that I can go to the office loos and look in the hideously overbright mirrors and come away without wanting to put a paper bag over my head!

Bare1 · 03/10/2011 14:21

Hello ladies,

My name's Lee and not only am I a mother of a eight-year old boy but also the Education Director for Bare Escentuals who make the bareMinerals products that you have all been having such great conversations about. I also appear on QVC for the brand so if anyone tuned in over the weekend looking to try the foundation you would have seen me Swirl, Tapping and Buffing away!

I have laughed so much reading your posts that I have now decided to spend lots more time here as it's such a great forum to chat. And as for Jodie (love the name change by the way) I hear loud and clear that she has dedicated much of the last week to giving really good advice about bareMinerals and deserves a special treat for spreading the word on our behalf. I'll drop Jodie a line and definitely sort something out.

In case I can help with any of the other queries I have seen:
The Original bareMinerals Foundation suits all skin types and give a 'naturally luminous' finish.
Matte foundation gives a soft matte finish but also has oil-controlling benefits if you're more on the oily side.
There are twenty shades in total so getting onto a store to try is great or check out our web-site bareMinerals.co.uk for a shade finder.
The foundation application takes a little practice (it took me a while) but once you get the hang of it you may never go back! As Jodie says - a couple of really fine layers is far better than loading too much on your brush. (Imagine chocolate sprinkled on cappuccino - that will give you one good layer.) The clever trick is - if you're makeup needs a refresh during the day - just buff it some more to warm the minerals. (with no product on the brush) Warmth is a contouring product that adds a healthy glow to the skin - less is more - and it's not essential for everyone but is really popular way to warm things up (we also have blushers etc. of you prefer a more English Rose approach) Mineral Veil finishes it all off and gives you a great 'air-brushed finished whatever your skin type.
The Starter kits really are the best way to begin as you get all the brushes and all of the key products at a great price and you can find them on various web-sites and in lots of stores (bareMinerals.co.uk has a store locator too)

I could go on, I just love this amazing product (and trust me I've tried a LOT before I landed at BE too) but the best thing is that you can't see or feel the foundation once it's on and - because there's no chemicals in it - your skin gets better over time!! (I haven't seen a spot for ages)

Everyone at BE is so pleased you have found us :-))

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:23

OOOH Jodie you have got some freebies Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:25

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! Blush Blush Blush

I am frantically trying to look like I have a life other than posting on MN about BE, but it's not working is it?!

Lee I'm afraid alongside some fans there are those whom it didn't suit - and now you might find MNHQ leap on you for advertising Wink - they're fearsome dragons like that Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:25
Pinot · 03/10/2011 14:27

Wellllll my brushes arrived today and it's even better with the proper brush :) I'm in lurve, baby, in lurve!

Think Jodie is right - it's not for dry skin, but perfect for rubbish skin like mine.

This is a GOOD THING.

Hello to bare1 - if you need a tester for future stuff, just let me know Wink

Pinot · 03/10/2011 14:29

Oh and the bisque is ACE!

AitchTwoOh · 03/10/2011 14:31

EXCELLENT WORK, JODIE! Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:31

Grin Pinot

How is the bisque for undereyes, btw?? I have been able to get away without just the foundation and using the flat brush to apply a bit more ...

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:32

Pah.

PAH.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:32

I just wish I could remember the name of my Orange Lady (not that she was orange) because she should get, I dunno, a bonus or similar....

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:33

I have banged on for 3 years on mumsnet about By Terry and their £100 foundations.

Has the By Terry lady been on here and given me freebies?

Has she hell.

AitchTwoOh · 03/10/2011 14:34

by terry, though. i mean... it's a shocking name.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:34

Of course Jodie she is emphatically NOT an orange lady, she is a flawless warmth toned lady Grin

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 14:35

I know.

Terry and June make up.

Was never going to be a seller, was it.

Mind you we are on here talking about Bare Escentuals ffs Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 14:35

Whenever someone says By Terry, all I can think of is a really, really dapper camp 60s theatre director with a fitted drip-dry shirt neatly unbuttoned to display a cameo pendant his mother wore, getting effusive about his latest show with darling Camille Grin Grin
