going to a wedding with stunning SIL

I love my sil, she is one of the nicest people I know, but she is also one of the most stylish and beautiful. We have a family wedding in 3 weeks and she tried on her outfit to show me and now I don't even want to go! She looks amazing, sophisticated, completely stunning. At the last family wedding the groom's family were all asking if she was a model. She just has an eye for clothes and an amazing figure. She can do all the finishing touches to make an outfit and has gorgeous hair and so on.

I'm a size 6-8 and 5'8 so people are constantly telling me I can wear anything but I just look like a stick (25/26 inch waist, 30C/32B) and the dress i had in mind makes me feel like a child compared to her. I have spent the last 2 days scouring the internet for something nice to make me not feel so hideous next to her but having no luck and just getting more and more fed up. If anyone has seen any gorgeous summer wedding appropriate dresses please point me in their direction?

Looking to spend £50ish ideally but the way I'm feeling would go double if it made me feel like I could spend the day standing next to her.

Oooh cakeaholic, the dress you linked to from Rag & Bone is almost identical to one I have from Mint Velvet. Will see if I can find a link -here

I was going to sell it on ebay (size 8), as never worn, will send you link if you fancy?

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 19:54

Wow, just came back to this, I love the Birger one with the bits on the shoulder (sorry, crap description).

Now, what accessories??

Conundrumish · 05/07/2011 20:23

Oh my goodness, those are your stats, you are a choc/cakeoholic and you don't even have to try?! Then she is probably envious of you (as am I) - she probably hates you for being able to eat all that nice food and still look good!

Wear what you feel comfortable in ... I wouldn't even try to compete

mollymole · 05/07/2011 20:24

whatever you wear you will better than your SIL - that dress looks awful -

Geordieminx · 05/07/2011 22:32

I'm near Glasgow (uddingston),would be more than happy to go shopping with you or give you a second opinion?

lillybloom · 05/07/2011 23:53

There is a wee boutique style shop in Duke st called Cocoberry. The woman who owns it , Alison, is amazing at "dressing" her customers. I've bought a few things from there and always fell a million dollars in them. She is also very good at suggesting accesories and things too. Might be worth a wee visit.

Jacksmania · 05/07/2011 23:57

Oh I wish I could go shopping with you all Envy

JanMorrow · 06/07/2011 16:23

Apologies if this has already been posted but I have fallen in love with this dress, if I had your figure then I'd totally go for this with black patent heeled shoes (from new look) and a black chunky necklace and black bag.

any decisions?

Off to get Huck's Gorg dress

cakeoholic · 06/07/2011 23:24

Wanksock, thanks for the link, I think that dress is a little dark for me but it's the kind of style I've gone for before and I think suits me.

Nicecupoftea thanks for the offer but I know the bridesmaids are wearing blue so trying to avoid that.

Pink and molly, thankyou! All these little comments are really making me feel better :)

Geordie I may take you up on that offer!

Lilly, will definately try that shop, thankyou!

Jacks, where are you? Maybe someone is near you who fancies a shopping trip.

Jan, that's not a colour I'd normally go for but I'm being far more open to different things after all the help I've had on here so i'll see if I can try it on in my size.

In other news I've ordered a few things to try on and am watching a few things on ebay inspired by spids who was very patient and helpful into the early hours of the morning :)

I also tried a few things on in oasis just to get an idea for styles and shapes that might suit so I could re scour the internet.

I tried oasis 1 because it was stripey like the one I liked on nap! It was too fussy and a little large on me.

oasis 2 which isn't a colour I'd normally try but I thought the looser shape was similar to some I'd liked online. I didn't like the waist tie but it actually looked way better on that I'd have imagined.

oasis 3 was another style and colour I'd never have tried on but I think actually suited me. It was too high on the neck, a bit baggy around the chest area and not a pattern I'd be comfortable wearing but I could see that the style looked good on.

I also went to ted baker and karen millen, nothing that suited but my horizons have been widened and I'm feeling more positive and like I CAN feel good, I just need to find the right thing for my shape.

wanksock, cakeoholic

Ooh, I bought the Oasis knifepleat dress in latte for a wedding yesterday - it's fab! Have you thought about the latte colour cakeoholic?

wine/wank I didn't realise that came in another colour, will try it on if I see it in the shops.

herb the bridesmaids are in blue and I think it may be a little too high and fussy at my neck but I will give it a go if I can find it in my size to try on, thanks :)

You don't want to know what just went through my mind when I saw your post start with "wine/wank" :o

I'm glad you've had so much help :)

grumpypants · 07/07/2011 18:53

have you got a zara near you? I'm tall, size 8, so similar, and they have lots of gorgeous things that go together - dresses, shoes, etc Plus not hideously expensive.
