going to a wedding with stunning SIL

I love my sil, she is one of the nicest people I know, but she is also one of the most stylish and beautiful. We have a family wedding in 3 weeks and she tried on her outfit to show me and now I don't even want to go! She looks amazing, sophisticated, completely stunning. At the last family wedding the groom's family were all asking if she was a model. She just has an eye for clothes and an amazing figure. She can do all the finishing touches to make an outfit and has gorgeous hair and so on.

I'm a size 6-8 and 5'8 so people are constantly telling me I can wear anything but I just look like a stick (25/26 inch waist, 30C/32B) and the dress i had in mind makes me feel like a child compared to her. I have spent the last 2 days scouring the internet for something nice to make me not feel so hideous next to her but having no luck and just getting more and more fed up. If anyone has seen any gorgeous summer wedding appropriate dresses please point me in their direction?

Looking to spend £50ish ideally but the way I'm feeling would go double if it made me feel like I could spend the day standing next to her.

Oh my lord - are you the skinny brunette??

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:37

Go the Elizabeth James frock, it would look stunning on you.

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:38

Really, it would hang off your back so well, keep you hair as it is & put a massive pair of fuck off heels with it

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:39

Don't you think it would just make me look like I have no chest?

pleeeeeeease try on the monsoon one - i guarantee you be a total knock out in it!

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:42

Yes & no - it's a brilliant look - it's Mr Spids favourite & you would so trump SIL's high street effort, really, having seen your pic, that dress is made for a figure like yours - team it with a pair of nude heels, keep your hair doen, bare eye make-up (a little mascara, powder), huge red lips.

FABULOUS.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:43

Hucking I will try the monsoon one on just for you! I find monsoon size 8 is generally to big on me though

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:44

& NO, don't do the Monsoon one - too many layers - keep it simple.

(Sorry Hucking)

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:45

It's too PARTY.

Don't do it.

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:46

You (we) all need understated, sexy chic.

HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:48

Thing is spidy - i appreciate that the eliz one is gorgeous and understated but we are talking about a weegie wedding in july. if cakey is not totally rocking the half dead victorian nymph look it could easily look dowdy.

Its a lot easier to feel great with endless legs out of a bright colour with fab clashing accessories.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:48

I don't know that I can pull off sexy chic! And my posture isn't fab either which I think I'd need to work on for that dress

Wedding is in a church then a country park and I'm not from Glasgow, don't know if that makes a difference.

Am now thinking of Scottish weather and the fact I could not wear a cardi over that dress! lol. What's church etiquette re having shoulders/back out?

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:53

wheres the reception?

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:54

The EJ one will have great cut & movement, the Monsoon one will look 'try-hard, I don't know what to wear so I've bought a jolly dress'

Think on.

Shoulders relaxed, hips dropped, arse down but out.

You can & will pull it off - I've seen your photo......

Enough already.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:55

In a hotel the country park

Fur shrug - I've got one if you want Cake - am happy to send (lovely 30's genuine fur) - perfect.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:56

Thankyou spids, I am getting some confidence from your confidence in me!

OP posts:
cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:58

wow spids, thats so nice of you but I couldn't, I'd be too worried it'd get lost in the post or there'd be a traditional Scottish downpour and I'd ruin it!

Love this though too white for a wedding and probably a bit high necked for me

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 03:27

Am glad you're looking N-A-P sale.

You can;'t go wrong.

Yes, Thakoon one too formal & white I think.

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 03:29

& I sent some jeans to someone last week gratis - the shrug was the same offer.

No need to send it back.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 03:37

spids that is so lovely of you and I think I am desperate enough to say yes if you really don't mind it as it sounds gorgeous. I am more than happy to return to you after. Though you saying there is no need stops me from imaging awful things happening to it and having to retire from mn due to the guilt!

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 03:48

Cake - am more than happy to, really, I loves a good outfit.

I have too many clothes & a daughter that channels Braveheart - I save many bits for her but also love to send them out into the ether, I suspect she'll be wearing dungarees to her wedding.......

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 03:57

Thankyou, that would be so amazingly wonderful Grin

I've found some gorgeous stuff on nap, knew there was a reason I avoided it. Should not have ventured out of the sale section!

You'll still be able to shop for a mother of the bride outfit no matter what she wears!
