going to a wedding with stunning SIL

I love my sil, she is one of the nicest people I know, but she is also one of the most stylish and beautiful. We have a family wedding in 3 weeks and she tried on her outfit to show me and now I don't even want to go! She looks amazing, sophisticated, completely stunning. At the last family wedding the groom's family were all asking if she was a model. She just has an eye for clothes and an amazing figure. She can do all the finishing touches to make an outfit and has gorgeous hair and so on.

I'm a size 6-8 and 5'8 so people are constantly telling me I can wear anything but I just look like a stick (25/26 inch waist, 30C/32B) and the dress i had in mind makes me feel like a child compared to her. I have spent the last 2 days scouring the internet for something nice to make me not feel so hideous next to her but having no luck and just getting more and more fed up. If anyone has seen any gorgeous summer wedding appropriate dresses please point me in their direction?

Looking to spend £50ish ideally but the way I'm feeling would go double if it made me feel like I could spend the day standing next to her.

I'm a nanny and I love my job, I like just to spend time with people I like really. I like to eat out with friends, wander round the shops, go to cinema, picnics in the park, have friends/family round for tea and a chat. I like to read but I don't really have any hobbies that I do or anything

I'm 28 but look young for my age I think, I feel like I haven't changed how I dress for years, that I should be more grown up now, trying to find a pic to show, i hate having my pic taken which prob says a lot!

Ok, so a fairly casual life.

So uber chic would look wrong anyway.

Go for something looser, less formal.

Do you like florals, prints or solid colour?

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:10

Just trying to ascertain which shop would be best for you.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:10

I'm not a very florally person, normally go for solid colour but think I could prob do with wearing some print, have been trying to consider prints when looking online.

Thankyou so much for helping

Do you live somewhere where the shopping is good - or is it all high street?

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:12

I'm in Glasgow but I only ever go to highstreet, would feel awkward going into anything else

I'm thinking shapes first, maybe knee length - can you do a photo (not a desperate perv promise - just helps to see).

Will post some of me if it helps.

HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:15

gorg

purple

red

lush

forthe brave

fushcia

thoughts?

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:15

Ohhh - don't feel awkward - indies are your friend - really - would never shop anywhere else (in person, really Net-a-Porter is your friend - but...)

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:18

I've put one pic on profile (i think!) of me next to sil! I'm looking for a better body one!

OP posts:
spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:19

Mmmm

From what you've told me I don't think you'll be comfortable in any of these (tell me if I'm wrong).

Drapes are quite smart.

& require a massive heel.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:20

think nap is out of my price range! I prob like the style of the phase 8 dress best though not sure about the colour but think it's a bit sophisticated for me! Like the last one but again not my colour and think it's a bit safe and plain

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:22

28 means you can afford to go short.

this?

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:23

No profile there.

Are you comfy in a v high heel?

If so, go knee length.

If you prefer a lower heel, go shorther with the dress, you've got the height.

OK enough chat - am off to look for some frocks for you.

£100 tops??

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:24

Massive heels are good, I have long slim legs and think heels suit me though I am taller than dp in flats! He knows I feel better in heels though and says he doesn't mind.

I don't know what you mean by drapes Blush

Think you're right though that I wouldn't be that comfortable in any of those. Sorry

tbh the phase eight one is too old for you. You have similar colouring t me which means pastels look crap and dark or jewel colours look great

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:26

If I loved it I'd go more than £100 tbh because I just really want to spend the day feeling good about myself, would rather get one cheaper but sometimes things are worth paying more for!

Not sure about the monsoon one, think it's a bit frilly.

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:29

it is gorg in real life tbh. I have it in black. Are you really just wanting a plain shift dress then?

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:31

can you not stretch you budget

or

lovely

this

?? love it

If I'm totally off the mark, let me know.

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:32

All Net a Porter - have a huge sale on at the mo' - go on - fill your boots.....

HuckingFell · 05/07/2011 02:34

I think the cottony ones would make you look like a little girl next to your sil.

the elizabeth and james one is lovely.

spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:34

Think I like the first & third best.

cakeoholic · 05/07/2011 02:35

I really like the blue one second from the bottom but I know the bridesmaids are wearing blue. I think I'm too skinny for the others really, does that make sense? Like they'd look like they do hung on the hanger?

Think my profile is public now and I tried to pm you another pic but it's still not great, can't really find any full length ones on theis computer

OP posts:
spiderslegs · 05/07/2011 02:35

Me too - go Elizabeth James
