How do I use my GHD's to make loose waves?

I have tried and failed.

My hair length isn't the problem, I just don't have the knack.

Any tips appreciated.

Oooh Tatty I love the video. You are so pretty and have fab hair. Right this time I am making it work! Off a night out tonight wiht DH's work peeps... must have fab hair!

sailorsgal · 17/06/2011 19:03

Is your hair just blow dried or have you straightened it first? Its just that I have frizzy hair? And loads of it.

Have had this done in the hair dressers and it looked great.

Yes, you do have gorgeous shiny hair. Envy

TattyDevine · 17/06/2011 19:12

Oh shit thanks girls. My hair had been washed first thing this morning but just dried naturally. It is very sleek and well-behaved. That's probably why its shiny, because I've done terrible, vile horrible things to it in the past 6 months or so!

Ah, whew, glad the eyebrows etc are acceptable - I'm just thinking I'm rather jowly?!? When did that happen? And doesn't the camera add 10 pounds kilos Angry ROFFLE

And those nails look so Essex but they'd run out of short slim tips so they are American Girl Pink! Don't they catch the light though Blush

Sod it anyway, all in good fun.

I really want to hear that someone has NAILED IT! Get practising! Grin

L8rAllig8r · 17/06/2011 19:23

Agree, great video! As soon as DS is in bed I'll be getting the GHDs out for a go. I usually use a curling iron but waves would be a nice change. Shall report back!

PedigreeChump · 17/06/2011 19:28

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the most brilliantly curly hair (ok I've had a glass of wine already so it's possible not quite perfect but never mind... everyone else will be steaming when I arrive)

I'm off out to join DH at his work 'do' and show all those pretty young girlies in his office a thing or two about MN style and beauty Wink

Thank you Tatty Devine you are a star.

PS MNers, wine is the key to it. I couldn't manage it until I had consumed a large glass!

woopsidaisy · 17/06/2011 20:02

That is brill Tatty. Will give it a go before Take That on Sunday.
Thank you!

bananamonkey · 17/06/2011 22:18

They are kodo ones (tony and guy used to sell them, ghds make my hair flyaway) go up to 120 I think, the curls come out well but they drop out, I have the same problem with tongs. I think it's just my stupid fine hair, it doesn't 'hold styles well. Will watch your video to see if the technique is different.

trixymalixy · 17/06/2011 22:23

Oooh, I'm going to try this too.

Tatty your hair is lovely Envy

gapants · 17/06/2011 22:31

tatty i sort of heart you and all your hair advice, have been on a few of your threads and am in wonder at how much you know!

I have been trying and failing at this hair curl, so am feeling much more confident about it. Have a wedding next weekend, so will practise this week to get it right. Have saved your You Tube Video.

Thank you!

TattyDevine · 18/06/2011 10:46

I'm so glad people liked this video and aren't ripping the piss out of me!!! Thank you! I love all things hair...its lucky I found this forum otherwise I might be a bit of a hair-bore in real life I suspect, I am known among my friends for sort of raking through their hair and analysing their highlights and trying to guess what toner they've had put through Blush they think I'm weird. I am!!!

blue2711 · 18/06/2011 13:29

Another thank you! Brilliant video, tatty! Wish you were my RL friend and I could discuss my endless attempts to find the perfect streaky blonde highlights....

lemonmuffin · 18/06/2011 13:54

Great video Tatty, you make it look so easy! Agree you're hair looks in fab condition, what shampoo and conditioner do you use? (nosey emoticon)

TattyDevine · 18/06/2011 14:54

Ooh Blue, what's wrong with your highlights? What are they lacking? Discuss!

Lemon, thanks! I have done lots to it this year/last year so I'm glad its not looking like a bale of old hay. I've been using Ojon This bad boy a bit but also some Aveda colour correction stuff (I was using Blue Malva when I was having highlights and I'm now back on the Madder root now that I'm brunette again to give it a warm hue)

I do the odd treatment on it, the Ojon one pictured, but also slather on some MOP Protein Extreme occasionally (I think its been discontinued but I dont rate it as highly as the Ojon) and their Extreme Moisture one as well.

I use GHD Remedy Cream which is a leave in thing which protects you from the heat and of course good old Moroccan Oil. Sometimes I'll put some of both of those in my hair after washing it - if I wore it straight it might weigh it down but because I curl it I get away with it and it makes it all nice and glossy.

WineComesInAtTheMouth · 18/06/2011 16:18

Tatty!

Thank you so much! For the first time ever, I have achieved gawjus GHD curled hair! Your video walked me right through it. You do have beautiful hair, the kind of hair that gives me serious hair Envy.

I use Moroccan Oil and Ojon too, I've found it's the only shampoo and conditioner which will leave my frizzy hair manageable. GHD Remedy Cream is on my shopping list!

Have just discovered moroccan oil and it is amazing!!! My hair erupts in a ball of frizz at the slightest damp in the air. I have tried everything - all the frizz ease products, smoothing serums etc. But the oil does the job, was out last night in the rain and even in direct rain there was not a hint of frizz, hair is still lovely and straight and soft this morning too!

Fab video Tatty but omg what a fab engagment ring!

TattyDevine · 18/06/2011 20:06

Oh yeah - thanks...and I thought it was expensive to insure a car ... Hmm Grin

TattyDevine · 18/06/2011 20:16

BananaMonkey - the heat may well be your problem. As far as I am aware GHD's go to about 230 degrees. They may well be doubly hotter than your straighteners. This - trust me - can make all the difference. My hair would drop from tongs, rollers, even a proper wash and set, Yogi wand, you name it.

GHD's are the dogs.

If you have the techique right and love it, and the only problem is they drop, I urge you to trial some proper GHD's or equivalent heat and then consider investing, if this is what you want.

CatherineMumsnet · 18/06/2011 21:21

Tatty - LOVE the video. I've wanted to do this for ages too so just wanted to say thanks for posting it :)

Fab video, Tatty! Grin Am going to give it a go tomorrow before we go out for a Father's Day lunch! I've tried it before, but I have been turning my 'crocodile' the wrong way! May be that's where I've been going wrong!
