New thread..

OP posts:
florenceuk · 04/02/2011 15:28

My Thursday night shopping trip has been moderately successful - bought Plum's bretons at Zara along with a pair of chinos in brown and a pair of skinny black pants in black not brown which funnily enough on me are just below the ankle (so OK with e.g. brogues) - not sure whether to spend the £10 taking them up to get them to cropped length!

Lusted after a black (apparently ruthenium-plated silver) version of this: crow necklace but realised that if I wear black all the time it will never show up, so spent my five pounds on something much smaller in the end (needlecase!). I still want a longer necklace to wear with plain-ish dresses/tunic tops so any ideas welcome!

TheAllNewOoooh · 04/02/2011 15:28

Right, that's quite enough of that! Amazing though the difference clothes make!

TheAllNewOoooh · 04/02/2011 15:47

florence I like everything you have bought. Must get some chinos.

The Alex Monroe is so lovely, as is all of his stuff. I have some oxidised silver jewellery (dark grey) and whilst it doesn't sparkle it contrasts well with skin tones.

pickledsiblings · 04/02/2011 15:50

Drat, missed Ooooh's lumps and bumps - darn school run.

TheAllNewOoooh · 04/02/2011 16:01

Now you see them, now you don't.

It's probably for the best.

OllieWollieWoo · 04/02/2011 16:04

Weather foul - really strong winds here too. Back from an indoor play centre with DSs (DS1 had day off school). Quite quiet so sat with a hot chocolate and played with my iphone whilst they ran around for nearly 2 hours. Win win situation!

RipMacwinkle - ohh you are lovely for remembering! If you do see a navy janice in a 12, please get one for me - thank you.

ABO - I loved the RM and AMQ dresses - I think an RM is at the top of my fantasy wish list. Glad you didnt feel any pressure - I am terrible at saying no to sales assistants and sure I would have ended up buying something regardless of cost or what it looked like!
Hells - great news re potential house. Fingers crossed and all that!
Fritzi - have a lovely time skiing. And v pleased you had a good time with your Mum - I completely understand how much the compliment meant to you.

Off out for a meal with a friend this evening - going to a nice Vietnamese restaurant. Will just wear skinnies, shoeboots and either a cream or taupe silk top. Happy Friday evenings everyone.

FritziGreenEyes · 04/02/2011 16:07

hf DD started last year when she was 3.5 and loved it. However, if she decides she doesn't want to ski this year then I just take her sledging and ice-skating while DH hits the slopes. We also have a pool at the hotel if the weather turns nasty.

ohh Missed your body scan.

bloss Enjoy your night out! Great outfit.

And it is Friday, again. Looking forward to Wine later. Couldn't resist Grin

Will be wearing skinnies with sheepskin-lined boots, Breton and belted down-jacket for traveling tomorrow. Hope some random Frenchman will turn up and pay me a compliment at check-in like the one notyummy got Wink. Sorry, I really sound a bit desperate and needy today.

Emo76 · 04/02/2011 16:41

Hello - can barely keep up with this thread!

Have just ordered this for a boring industry black tie do. Am not convinced but am curious to see how it looks on me and if the built in corset does indeed mean no bra required. I usually buy a Coast dress or similar but this is my first big work event since having DD2 so I want to look as good as I can. We shall see!

carciofi · 04/02/2011 16:55

Fritzi, have a great holiday.

Emo, fab dress.

redllamayellowllama · 04/02/2011 16:56

Oooh, talk to me a little about the lively dress. How are you planning on wearing? Have decided to e-bay <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=s7v1.scene7.com/is/image/JohnLewis/000147690%3F%24fash_product%24&imgrefurl=www.johnlewis.com/147690/Style.aspx%3Fsku%3D231035782&usg=__fQ8evLmQFa0Rkd0aE4tA9o_s6A0=&h=534&w=400&sz=26&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=rUMSxW4UGP_IbM:&tbnh=146&tbnw=94&ei=sS5MTdmGE8OLhQf85rSnDg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwhistles%2Banimal%2Bbouquet%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D980%26bih%3D1208%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=754&vpy=409&dur=2223&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=70&ty=392&oei=sS5MTdmGE8OLhQf85rSnDg&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=39&ved=1t:429,r:22,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this one. Classic buying of a dress that doesn't suit me in the slightest, but that i love. With that one gone, a space will be created...

Plum, I like the necklace a lot, but not sure all of the shades together works.

lackaDaisy · 04/02/2011 17:25

redllama that dress is gorgeous! What size is it in? Actually, there's no point in me asking at the moment as I'm on a shopping ban till I lose my baby weight (used to be a 10-12, currently a large 14 and 3 cup sizes larger in the boobs than normal Blush)

lackaDaisy · 04/02/2011 17:27

hf and roman thanks for the recommendation. I think I'll buy the tan one now and ask dh to get the red ones for our anniversary next month. You can't have too much of a good thing Grin

Plum I like that necklace! That colour scheme goes well with my skin colouring

Zembo · 04/02/2011 17:57

Woohooo I'm going home!!! Kids have been collected by my parents so don't need to worry about them this weekend. Dh is being fab and I'm sure I'll be better looked after at home than in hosp.
hells thanks for lovely compliment but I'm afraid I'm going to need a fair bit of cosmetic dentistry before I'm fully fixed!

AntPants1 · 04/02/2011 18:01

Great news zembo rest up and let your DH look after you.x

Zembo · 04/02/2011 18:06

Yes will do ants he's even going to take my staples etc out so I don't have to go to gp or come back to hosp. Mini perks of being married to a surgeon Smile

lackaDaisy · 04/02/2011 18:09

zembo that's great news. Make sure to put your feet up for as long as it takes Smile

ReineDeSaba · 04/02/2011 18:24

Great that you are on your way home zembo ..hopefully little quieter there at night!please feel free to pm me if you want any dental advice but I'm guessing since both you and dh are in medical fields you probably know a gazillion dentists.

Am sitting with a glass of Wine ,well actually a glass of fizz but close enough!feeling pleased with myself as have done a huge wardrobe declutter today and now ready to ebay(though may find myself giving up and dropping bags off at the charity shop)any expert ebayers know what is the best time to list?

emo that dress is fabulous.

fritzi glad you had a lovely time with your mum.

bunny I have heard that that bookstart plan to give out books only to those at schools who receive free meals(they do a school age pack)..that still seems like the wrong way to go about it..

hells the amor luxe has not worked for me..thick cotton but made me look like a box..will try zara next week but really want the lovely sandro one I saw(bad bonsior for tempting me with there fine wares)

loobylu3 · 04/02/2011 18:31

Hi everyone!

Thx for all the feedback on the Brora tea dress. I have ordered two colours to try- I agree the colours aren't all that inspiring but I would brighten up with a red/ orange cardigan. I'm not convinced that it will flatter me but will try and let you know :)

ABO- forgot to say thanks for the link to those Dune boots the other day. I really like them and they were v comfortable when I tried them but I'm not sure I can justify them now as I have already have enough boots for this Winter!
Are you going to buy?
Sounds like a lovely day at Selfridges- a well deserved treat for you :)
I had a bad experience with Selfridges online recently (a string of things) and they sent me a £25 store voucher which was nice of them.

marsha- lovely dresses!

Pleased to hear that the lottas are going down well! I am v tempted. I bought some flared jeans recently and think they would go well.....

red- I was a Bristol student like tracey- but didn't stay in the area for a long time after graduating. I therefore have no experience of the area since becoming a family. Bath is certainly absolutely beautiful but as tracey says, v expensive. I do remember that the A road between Bristol and Bath is pretty horrific though.

I can't believe that you are selling that Whistles leopard dress- I thought you loved it! I saw one sell on ebay the other week for £75 so you might even make a profit! I do also have a little confession to make- I have returned it. I put it on last weekend to wear out with DH and he hated it. I wouldn't necessarily return something just because he didn't like it but he is usually a good judge of what suits me and it was a bit loose at the top.

plum- I like the style if the necklace but not sure about the gold with the silver and black.
I like a couple of the necklaces on the BR website but they seem v expensive for what they are so haven't purchased (v wise).

zembo- must be great to be at home again. Home you have a much better night's sleep tonight!

Ooh- you do indeed have a lovely figure but I missed your face :)

Had a revelation today when I was at the shops. The underwear I have been wearing is totally unflattering! I hadn't bought anything in at least three years (not kidding) as was PG/ breast feeding on mat leave, etc.
I tried on some new bras in La Senza and they have definitely given my bust, (totally ruined by my lovely children- wail) a bit of shape!

I bought this in oasis which I have yet to try on and also this scarf to satisfy my scarf craving as I can't have the crumpet one Grin. It is v pretty in RL as is the red one with hearts.

loobylu3 · 04/02/2011 18:33

Oh, hells- I don't think the armo-lux would work on me either. It would look to sack like.
There are masses of other Bretons around at the moment to choose from though!

Bonsoir · 04/02/2011 18:34

ReineDeSaba - I've got a Sandro blouse on today - their cuts work really well for me, always make me look slimmer! I was eyeing up a fab poppy red linen-knit t-shirt in Sandro yesterday (shop is inconveniently located on school run ie I walk past 6 x per day Shock) which I know would look great. But I have already bought a hugely expensive red knit t-shirt in Marni for SS11...

Oooooh - so sorry to have missed your lumps and bumps [disbelieving emoticon] Wink

Zembo - so glad you are home and in good hands.

I christened my Houlihan's at this morning's breakfast - wore them with my Tod's boots, cream silk Sandro blouse, a navy knit poncho and matching woolly hat, and a pink-printed cream wool scarf. Thought I looked nice and got compliments on slimness Smile Smile. Lots and lots of slim and glam and very nice international mothers and I didn't get home until 12.20. Luckily DD was having lunch at the canteed (of her own volition, too!).

Then had to do solid housework/shopping until just now, basically - with a quick sortie for the school run. DP and POL need lots of tlc tonight (have cooked extra special supper) as MOL was readmitted to hospital late last night and is very ill now... busy weekend ahead...

pickledsiblings · 04/02/2011 18:40

Bonsoir, sorry to hear that your MOL has been admitted to hospital

Zembo, glad you are out and LOL at the mini perks Smile

Hells, what sort of breton are you after?

redllamayellowllama · 04/02/2011 19:03

Great news Zembo, hope you have a restful, relaxing weekend.

Lovely-sounding outfit Bonsoir.

Looby, I love it, but if there's one thing this thread is teaching me, it is to dress to suit my shape. The 10 was actually a little big everywhere apart from the bust, so didn't define me and looked boxy around the arms. A beauty, but for someone less curvy. Interestingly, my DH didn't like much either. Am sorely tempted to try the Lively Dress when on mission divide, lift and conquer tomorrow. Glad to near your trip was a success on that front today. Thanks for Bristol tips - DH was a student in Bath, so loves it, but this job would put him too far away from Bath. We're thinking of Redlands way, but this is all pie in the sky really.

ABO, sounds like a lovely day.

Fritzi, hope you have a lovely holiday. Totally understand where you are coming from on the maternal approval front.

MarshaBrady · 04/02/2011 19:33

Thanks for all nice comments re the dresses Smile

Dh is late home from work and I am always more tired on a Friday, so it's nice to have something new to try.

Fritzi I am so pleased you had a lovely time with you mother, and the nice compliment. Those sort of things mean a lot to me too. Have a wonderful time skiing. I hope you get a chance to do nice relaxing après ski stuff with your dh too.

Fleecy · 04/02/2011 19:40

Thanks for the reminder roma - DH and I loved that thread and we still say ?pom bear anyone?? sometimes when bringing the other one a snack.

abo Selfridges sounds like fun

Waiting for a Chinese to arrive here. DD is currently singing ?The farmer?s in his wife? Grin

zembo glad you?re home ? must seem so very peaceful in comparison!

fritzi hope you have fun skiing

hellsbelles · 04/02/2011 19:46

Zembo - so glad you are getting to go home.

HF - thanks for the link...fab!

Bonsoir sorry to hear about MOL

House is looking slightly less exciting...there is a possibility it maybe leasehold which the vendors haven't yet advised the agents about (and possibly a short lease)?! And worse still I've discovered it used to be a hospice. It had a nice feeling about it but now I know that I"m really quite freaked out! Shall have to see if I can tame my superstitious mind.
