Vape-Free in 2026

Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

I'm going to have to I think @blankcanvas3 I'm no good at this moderating business. Can't get a minute away from DC til Thurs so it'll have to wait til then!

Noreeen · 04/04/2026 08:10

How are you feeling @Vapeaddict ?

I vaped a bit. Blush

But only on one day and haven't continued since, so I am calling it a blip only.

I'm pretty fine now, unless I see my husband's vape, or I feel particularly stressed. There's no cravings, only the habitual aspects still trouble me.

Er not great @Noreeen my quit date isn't for another week or so, I thought I'd continue cutting down in the meantime but it's not really working 🥴 I only vape 6mg in my own but anyone else's is still fair game 😂
I plan to do as @blankcanvas3 said on my quit date- patches and cold turkey. I clearly am not disciplined enough to cut down and quit that way!

Oops 🤭 did you hate it though? When I quit for a few months I basically had to force myself back on it because it made me cough so much idiot . Definitely sounds like a blip but be careful, it's such a slippery slope around month 2/3 when your brain tries to trick you that "it's not that bad" or "you can just have a bit". How long has it been?

blankcanvas3 · 06/04/2026 18:58

I’m on holiday at the moment and it’s been very good for my quitting because the kids are around constantly and I don’t vape in front of them! I’ve barely even thought about it.

When’s your quit date @Vapeaddict? Have you got your patches ready?

Well done @Noreeen, to only vape one day and not continue is great! I know if I vaped for one day that would be me done for about 3 months.

Vapeaddict · 06/04/2026 22:15

That's really good @blankcanvas3 I wondered about quitting at the start of the holiday as I am a secret vaper too. On the one hand it'd be easier because opportunities are less, on the other I'm inevitably more stressed 😂 how many days are you at now?

I set my date for 20th April as that's a fair chunk before my holiday but I might bring it forward and get some patches this week if I get a chance, I'm getting fed up of it and it's consuming my thoughts either way. It's almost like the guilt is as bad as the cravings so I might as well be doing something productive!

No I didn't hate it. I definitely started to back slide briefly but I am back on it now. My DH kept leaving his vape where I could see it, which is very annoying and hard to resist. I have had words with him. He is also planning to quit now but knowing him it will be 5 years before he actually does.

How are you doing? Don't feel guilty, you will get there.

@blankcanvas3 I hope you are having a lovely holiday! Where are you? xx

@VapeaddictI haven’t vaped since 23rd feb! I can’t believe it. Not long until 20th of April now, have you got some patches?

@Noreeenwe got back yesterday, we were in Cyprus! Weather was okayish but not as warm as we’d have liked. How are you getting on?

Vapeaddict · 10/04/2026 22:17

Ugh the DH definitely complicates things @Noreeen I need to have a word with mine too. I know all his hiding places 🤣 it's so annoyingly addictive! Glad you've got a hold on it again though. Hope DH does join you soon, but you've come this far already despite daily temptation so you should be really proud!

And you must be so proud too @blankcanvas3 23rd Feb!! Can I ask how your mood is? I'm sure I've said it before but the depression that hits is the biggest thing that worries me about quitting. I can power through cravings but that was something else. I gather it's called anhedonia and I'm trying to do a bit of reading/mental preparation this time round..
I actually thought of you today when I went to Boots and yes, I have my patches ready!

blankcanvas3 · 11/04/2026 19:55

@VapeaddictHahaha I thought of you yesterday when I saw nicotine patches in Tesco 😂 how funny. My mood has levelled out now, but the first month or so I felt terrible. I’m on antidepressants anyway so am hyper aware of how I am feeling. I was really quite horrible to DH several times, especially because he’s not had a problem quitting and hasn’t vaped since jan 2nd. In the 3rd or 4th week I started feeling better, and had been on the brink of asking my doctor to up my dosage but haven’t felt like that in a couple of weeks now.

Blacksheepatnewyear · 13/04/2026 07:08

Back again! How’s everyone getting on? I quit completely in March when away on holiday but stupidly went back on it when I was stressed at work. Now going away at end of April so need to quit in the next few weeks. I’m stocked up on patches & gum. Wish me luck!

blankcanvas3 · 13/04/2026 13:02

@Blacksheepatnewyearwelcome back love!! good luck, I think my holiday helped me get over the final hump in quitting - fingers crossed it’s the same for you! Where are you off to?

Blacksheepatnewyear · 13/04/2026 21:09

Malaysia……so a loooooong flight. I’ve been surprisingly ok today. I think the thought of the holiday is motivating me. I just need to not slip back into bad habits once I get back this time!!! I was away in March for a week & was fine but stupidly went & bought a vape as soon as I got back home 🙈

Vapeaddict · 14/04/2026 07:27

Ha that's a weird coincidence @blankcanvas3 and good to know actually that supermarkets sell them- I'm not sure why I never thought to look there and just went to the chemist!
Thanks for sharing re mood. I really considered going back on AD's but it took me ages to taper off them last time (and i went a little 🤪) so it's a big decision.. though at this point I'd rather that than the vape!
I've given myself 30 days before holiday so hoping that mood will have levelled out, or if it hasn't, that a holiday will help!
Good luck @Blacksheepatnewyear Malaysia will be amazing! I couldn't get on with the lozenges but never tried the gum- any comparison to share?

My quit date is looming and I'm nervous/a little excited. DH is working away next week so I can get the first few days out of the way with alone- it feels like it's meant to be!

Blacksheepatnewyear · 14/04/2026 07:32

I tried lozenges before but didn’t like them. I much prefer the gum. I find it distracts me from cravings, maybe it’s because it keeps my mouth busy 😂 I’m feeling quite agitated today so hope I can stick with it

Karmatime · 18/04/2026 10:08

Can I join? I’m on day 3 of quitting. I only took it up 4 years ago because of a smoking relapse (I hadn’t smoked for 10 years).
I have a huge incentive to quit as my dentist has told me I’ve got gum disease and if I don’t stop I could lose teeth!
I was only on 3mg but puffed a lot!
Has anyone tried Allen Carr? I found it useful when I quit smoking all those years ago.
Going cold turkey and the physical cravings are not bad and go after 3 deep breaths but they seem to be getting more frequent.

blankcanvas3 · 18/04/2026 13:43

@Karmatime have you got some nicotine patches? they will really help if you’re going cold turkey. I think a lot of us found when it got to day 4 it started getting much harder for some reason so that’s something look out for. Good luck!

Karmatime · 18/04/2026 14:07

Thanks @blankcanvas3 , I thought about patches but am trying without as I was on such a low strength. I’ll definitely try if it gets worse though.
I’ve got loads of gum from a previous attempt to quit but been told not to use it because of my own gum problems!
I ditched all my vaping gear yesterday which felt final.

blankcanvas3 · 18/04/2026 18:38

@Karmatime I felt so good when I finally threw everything out! I’m nearly 2 months free now and I never thought I’d get there. I still think about it occasionally, especially when Ive had a drink but apart from that it’s all good!

blankcanvas3 · 18/04/2026 21:53

DH is being a right arse tonight and I’ve been sat outside because he’s been such an arse. DS came out to see if I was okay and I’ve ended up vaping with him. So annoying after 2 whole months vape free!

Karmatime · 19/04/2026 08:42

@blankcanvas3 It makes it so much harder if you have a fellow vaper at home. It’s annoying but you haven’t undone the benefits of those 2 months not vaping with one blip and can hopefully get on with your quit - good luck.

MidlifeConfusion1 · 19/04/2026 20:20

Hi

I started a thread today and I couldn't find any company at all no one replied

I haven't actually read this thread yet, I'm going to have my dinner and then I'll read this

I stopped vaping on Thursday and it's been okay, but I just need to discuss the urge to vape and I want someone to talk me down - please help if you can!

Vapeaddict · 19/04/2026 20:41

Thanks @Blacksheepatnewyear I'll bear this in mind! I have some mints but they don't always last long enough, will see how the cravings go and grab some gum/nic gum if needed..

Ahh no @blankcanvas3 sounds like a perfect storm. Have you managed to get back on the quit wagon today? Hope you and DH have made up.

Hello @Karmatime and @MidlifeConfusion1 hope you're both doing well! Agree it's tough when there's a vaper at home, I'm about to find this out for myself again...

So my quit date is tomorrow. I have my patches ready to go and my liquid has actually nearly run out. I'm a bit nervous, just thinking a day at a time for now. That said, DH is away for the week so I'm hopeful that helps, both with me containing my inevitable irritability and because I won't have the temptation of his vape lying around until I have a solid few days under my belt. Really hope I can crack it this time! Apologies in advance if I spam through thread trying to distract myself 🫣

MidlifeConfusion1 · 19/04/2026 21:46

@Vapeaddict thank you for your reply. I was dying to talk to someone about

I'm the last in my circle to be doing any of this

My mistake really was to start vaping in the first place. It's more addictive than smoking IMHO and so much easier to do which makes it absolutely 100 times more problematic

No one replied to thread I started, but I'm not gonna type again about what happened

I think I'm going to need somewhere to report in as well

I stopped on Thursday

That was Thursday night and I didn't work Friday, so I think it's gonna be really tough next week

Quite worried about it

I can't use a nicotine patches it's an instant itch like I can't even keep it on my skin for 10 minutes - only tried one brand though

Can't use any kind of edible because that's instant indigestion

I'm 72 hours nicotine free
NGL felt a bit nauseous a couple of times though which I wasn't expecting but I must've had way more nicotine in me than I thought

MidlifeConfusion1 · 19/04/2026 23:03

Goodness
No one missing a few puffs before bed on this thread either

Just me then 😭

Karmatime · 20/04/2026 04:46

Hi @MidlifeConfusion1 I’m not using any NRT and have found the Allen Carr book so helpful. There’s one now just for vaping.
i find a few deep breaths with longer exhales than inhales help a lot with cravings.
If it helps I’m coming into day 5 and it feels much better so stick with it and hopefully it will feel easier very soon.
