Clearomisers, Clearos, Tanks, Cartomisers, Atomisers

As the title says, thread about the different types of e-liquid containers that are attached to batteries.

Cartomisers are the sealed disposable containers used in cigalike devices. They are prefilled with the liquid and have a built in atomiser to vaporise the liquid

Clearos, clearomisers and tanks are different names for the same thing, a refillable container for the liquid which also has an atomiser - though in many cases this atomiser can be replaced or even "rebuilt" i.e. the coil and wick replaced.

Raia let me know how you get on with the Kanger Aero, i was looking at them earlier but cant justify spending any more money unless they are superior to anything else Wink

Lora1982 · 29/04/2014 19:02

Whats the drip tip things? Is it literally a case of dripping drops in everytime you use it? Or is it like a hospital drip and drips itself?

Raia · 29/04/2014 19:12

Will do whatadrama Smile

Lora, I just mean the mouthpiece - really don't know why it's called a drip tip tbh, it's misleading!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 29/04/2014 19:28

I don't know why the mouthpiece is called a drip tip either Confused Not to be confused with a dripping atomiser, which is a case of dripping a few drops at a time and is useful for testing flavours.

To confuse matters further, there is a thing called a rebuildable dripping atomiser (RDA) which people usually use with a big fat wick which can soak up about 1ml at a time.

Lora1982 · 30/04/2014 13:26

So I changed to a 1.8 coil and it's so much harsher its great. Doesnt feel like im smoking on a silk cut now. What a relief, thank you!

I will say though with the lower resistance its definatly not as easy to get the flavour of the liquid, the higher ones it was just there easy to taste etc

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 30/04/2014 20:25

Yay! There is a bit of a payoff between throat hit and flavour I find. This is what variable voltage batteries are for, so you can find the 'sweet spot' Smile

Raia · 01/05/2014 11:22

New aero tank arrived this morning - first impressions are that it's much nicer quality than the iClear (glass tank, higher quality metal, everything comes apart). It gives an airier vape than the iClear or the little single coil evod clearos I've used. You can adjust the airflow with a wheel at the bottom to get a tighter or airier draw. Loads of flavour from my pina colada juice coming through Wine

Lora1982 · 01/05/2014 13:09

My iclear 16s arrived and I was so impatient I filled the wrong end and now have to sit and wait for it to dry out so I can start again.

Raia · 01/05/2014 13:32

Pic of today's vape mail Smile Blimey, sorry it's such a low quality photo (rubbish camera on ipad)

Argh at filling the wrong end Lora, how frustrating!

Ooh shiney! How do you get on with the metal drip tip Raia? Is it removable?

Raia · 02/05/2014 00:20

I don't mind the metal tip at all (thought I'd hate it) - it warms up straight away so you don't get horrible cold metal in your mouth when you're vaping, which is what I expected it to be like. Well, I vape so much it doesn't have a chance to cool down Confused

The drip tip is removeable - but it pulls out, held there by a silicon or rubber seal, not threaded. My mate replaced his with a plastic one which he got for peanuts on eBay as he really dislikes the metal tip.

Cantabile · 02/05/2014 09:26

I love the metal drip tip which came with my MPV! I don't use the clearo which came with it, but took the tip off and use it on my iClear 16s instead. I think of it as small Grecian urn and pretend I am very sophisticated Grin

That's the only downside of GS-H2s, no separate mouthpiece.

Cantabile · 02/05/2014 09:40

My iClear 16s have been stained irrevocably by my vaping gingerbread. I am not sure whether they are still OK to use though. I can't find replacement tanks for them, but have spare atomisers!

Any ideas?

OohQuack · 02/05/2014 13:19

Just buy a new one and use the stained one for badly behaved liquids?

YesJesseARobot · 02/05/2014 20:48

My ten GSH2's from the seller previously linked by Allergic have arrived. He is selling five at a time here but has had to plaster all over the listing that they are not recommended to use with with nicotine thanks to eBay Hmm

Anyway, they are fab and I have rather tragically colour co-ordinated some of my juices. Pineapple in yellow, parma violets in purple etc Grin

Allergictoironing · 02/05/2014 21:02

And why would that be tragic? I colour co-ordinate mine too Grin. I like to swap flavours around a few times during the day and especially if I'm out it would be easy to mix them up in the case. So apple in CE4 green, grape in GS-H2 green, pineapple in GS-H2 yellow, banana milkshake in CE4 yellow, strawberry in pink etc.

YesJesseARobot · 02/05/2014 22:07

Very sensible. I'm trying to decide on a colour for refresher chews. Possibly blue. Blue looks good with a spinner.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 03/05/2014 00:52

Cantabile when you say stained do you mean the plastic has gone opaque or frosted? If so throw it away along with any juice still in it. If a juice has reacted with the tank you are inhaling degraded plastic molecules and this is really not good for you!

OohQuack · 04/05/2014 19:27

So im looking for a glass tank so I can not worry about pineapples and cinnamons etc, I have coils for kangor evod, is there a glass one I can use those coils in?

Also can I get a quick recap on which type of flavours are likely to break the plastic ones thank you all.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/05/2014 19:34

Kanger Protank (and mini protank) will take the same coils. Not sure about the aerotank that Raia uses.

Likely tank crackers are citrus (lemon, orange, grapefruit ...), cherry, pineapple and spicy flavours. It seems to vary from brand to brand though. It's something to do with how the flavours are extracted but I can't remember the exact details.

OohQuack · 04/05/2014 20:27

Thanks ive had a google and it looks as if they are duel coil so im not entirely sure if it'll work with the ones I have. My minds spinning with all the bits ive got!

Cantabile · 04/05/2014 20:44

Bother! Thanks Plenty, tbh, not sure if merely stained or if they're frosted. Duly chucked anyway. So now I want glass/perspex tanks which will fit iClear 16 coils and mouthpieces! How annoying.

Ah I see you have told OohQuack already! Off to google.

Cantabile · 04/05/2014 21:14

There's something I don't understand about the mini protank. It says it has a drip tip, but it also says you fill it from the bottom.

My only beef with the GS-H2s is that they are bottom fillers. I really (really, really really!) like filling from the top!

OohQuack · 04/05/2014 21:46

Right so I think hope ive figured it out. Evod uses the same coils as protank and protank 2. Id need dual coils for a protank 3 and an evod glass.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/05/2014 21:48

I have a mini protank, it has lots of bits! It's the protank v2 that has a removable drip tip. If you take it out the metal bit on top of the tank is still sealed into the tube down the middle. Difficult to explain but I found you can see it at about 5:35 minutes.

I really like the removable drip tip because I don't get on with metal ones. I replaced mine with a pyrex one from fasttech. The only thing I don't like about it is the number of pieces to wash up!

Why don't you like filling from the bottom?
