Clearomisers, Clearos, Tanks, Cartomisers, Atomisers

Allergictoironing · 24/04/2014 12:21

As the title says, thread about the different types of e-liquid containers that are attached to batteries.

Cartomisers are the sealed disposable containers used in cigalike devices. They are prefilled with the liquid and have a built in atomiser to vaporise the liquid

Clearos, clearomisers and tanks are different names for the same thing, a refillable container for the liquid which also has an atomiser - though in many cases this atomiser can be replaced or even "rebuilt" i.e. the coil and wick replaced.

What I've been using the CE5-R clearos that you bought from fasttech for about a month now and I really like them. Just unscrew them from the bottom and put your liquid in. If you want to buy replacement coil heads for them then just scroll down to the available models and parts bit on your first link and you'll find the right ones. They range between 1.8 and 2.8 ohms but they will all fit.

Plenty, I got some more GS-H2s which arrived a day or so ago. I am only using one right now, but it is sporadic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've put it on the MVP and found that I can get a really good vape with it, and then the next puff it's dead, and the MVP reads it as 'non'. And then a few minutes later it's great again. It's driving me nuts - I've got all my other clearos in the wash!

(Actually, I also have 3 CE5s which have hardly been used, but they taste disgusting no matter what flavour is in them! I think they may need new coils?)

Help me!!!!!!!! I have no working clearos! I cannot vape and will have to smoke fags aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2014 22:35

Try pulling the centre pin out very slightly on the underside of the coil. Be careful not to pull it out altogether though.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2014 22:36

Also try pulling the centre pin on the MVP up a bit.

Cantabile · 25/04/2014 00:34

I did that, Plenty. No go. It's great for one puff and then nothing. I have to leave it for several minutes and then it's great again, but next puff it's stopped.

I did manage to pull the connection plate out of one battery altogether! Fascinating! Poked the wire back in with a small pokey thing and then dh and I managed to get the plate bit back in (needs two pairs of hands) and the battery works!

I found another GS-H2 at the back of my drawer, so I'm not as stuck as I was. It is working fine on all the batteries, so I guess I just have an intermittently duff one.

tibbysmum · 25/04/2014 09:48

Can someone recommend spare 'tank' bits for my new kanger protank mini? new to this and a bit confused.. I want to have a few separate tanks for different flavour liquids. Thanks!

Lora1982 · 25/04/2014 13:56

Can anyone tell me how to spot the signs I need to change the coil or clearo? I hear thry have a life span of about two weeks, but any other clues?

Allergictoironing · 25/04/2014 14:06

Lora I have one that I'm about to clean again that I've been using about 50% of the time for over 2 months now!

Usual signs are that everything tastes burnt or of very little, or it just stops working altogether. However flavour can be affected significantly when it just needs a good clean, so always try that first. A good warning sign that cleaning is in order is if the liquid inside goes very dark. Just look up "cleaning a CE4" or cleaning a GS-H2" or whatever clearo you have & there will be loads of guides on line & quite a few YouTube videos Smile

ginmakesitallok · 25/04/2014 14:27

I wouldn't go by the colour of the liquids, some are naturally very dark, either after steeping or when they've been in a clearo for a while. I just change my heads when the flavour starts to go.

Tibby, what do you want from a tank? Personally I use a vapeonly et-s dual bottom coil from value escape. I never use poly carbonate tanks because of the risk of cracking.

Allergictoironing · 25/04/2014 14:34

Oh sorry, that wasn't very clear of me was it? I meant if a naturally light coloured liquid goes very dark once you put it into the clearo, it usually means the wicks are dirty & need a clean.

Lora1982 · 25/04/2014 14:52

Its usually pale orange but its now a cola colour. To be honest the flavour tastes good right now so I'll probably leave it then till it tastes wrong

tibbysmum · 25/04/2014 15:00

I don't really know - I'd like something not too expensive that gives the same vaping experience and fits properly on what I have. I'm new to this, but I like it!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/04/2014 20:09

I don't go by colour of the liquid as some of them seem to kind of caramelise just from the heat. I change mine when I stop getting much vapour off them. Mind you, by that point, the coil looks like a little ball of charcoal when I take it out so I may just be a bit grotty Blush

tibby, pretty much everything will fit on a standard ego/510 battery fitting, which is what you have if you're using a mini protank Smile Nothing cheap will give you quite as much snap, crackle and pop as a protank though. If you just want something cheap and cheerful for tasting different flavours you could do a lot worse than the GS-H2's linked to by Allergic in the second post on the thread. The coils work the same way as the protank so will be familiar. You could just get a couple more mini protanks from myepack - they also sell replacement coils. They do a very wide range of tanks so you might want to experiment and try a few different sorts. All will fit on your battery.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/04/2014 20:14

If you like hot and spicy or strong citrus flavours, cracking might be an issue and you are best sticking to pyrex. Otherwise you are unlikely to have a problem. If you do get a plastic clearo that cracks or goes frosted or opaque, throw it away along with its contents. It's not good to vape degraded plastics.

tibbysmum · 25/04/2014 20:33

Excellent! Just what I needed to know. Was totally confused as to sizing with all the different ones people seem to use. I will get a pack of the cheapies then and a couple more pyrex. Thanks :)

MarieSchrader · 26/04/2014 21:02

Allergic, the link to the GS-H2's in your second post is no longer to clearos Grin

I shouldn't laugh, really. I noticed that it had been removed when I was reviewing my purchases earlier. Gits.

Same seller has them individually priced here

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 26/04/2014 21:26

Oh fucking hell Grin

I'm still 'corresponding' with ebay regarding their ecig policy. I get an email saying they don't allow the sale because the FDA won't let them. I reply pointing out the law. They reply saying it's not because the FDA won't let them it's because they are harmful to health. I reply pointing out the research. They reply saying the FDA won't let them. And on. And on. It's a fun game Hmm

I can't get any sort of answer on how I, as a responsible buyer, can ensure I am buying an e-shisha product (allowed) and not an e cig product (not allowed).

Am I right in thinking that Amazon allows the sale of ecig stuff as long as it doesn't contain nicotine? At least that is consistent.

Allergictoironing · 26/04/2014 22:20

The original advert on e-bay was absolutely plastered with big red signs saying NOT to be used with anything containing nicotine - presumably to get round the e-bay rules on that.

Ah try THIS one?

MaggieMcGill · 27/04/2014 06:19

Hahaha! I know someone who has just bought a 'dry herb' vaporiser on amazon and it's also on ebay but more expensive. Hmm! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what that will be getting used for Confused

Lora1982 · 28/04/2014 22:18

Right I need some help I think! Til today I was using bog standard ce4s and getting a good throat hit quicklt and nicely. Today dp's switched to a gs-h2 and ive gone for my new kanger evod. I have to take long draws on both and I dont get the throat hit really until ive exhaled... whats going wrong?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 28/04/2014 22:31

Could just be the difference between top coil (ce4) and bottom coil (evod and gs-h2) If you find you prefer a top coil and want something a bit posher, the iclear 16 is very popular. Myepack sell them for not much money. The other possibility is the ce4 was a lower resistance than the other two so the coil will get hotter. Most standard coils are 2.4 ohms but you sometimes find 2.2 ohms and tere will be a bit of variation in different individual coils too.

Lora1982 · 28/04/2014 22:49

Thanks, ive just ordered lower ohms see if that helps. I did woner what difference the ohms would make and assumed (wrongly) that 2.5 would be harsher but clearly not

Lora1982 · 29/04/2014 12:41

Also found covering one of the air holes helps too :-D

Perihelion · 29/04/2014 13:24

Unlike Plenty, I hated gs-h2's after starting off with CE4's.

I've just bought a Kanger Evod, which is okay, but my favourite is the Kanger T2, which is a top coil, but is a bit tricker to source.

Raia · 29/04/2014 15:17

I've just ordered a Kanger Aero Tank to replace my iClear 30. I liked the iClear but it has a plastic tank, uses a lot of juice, seemed to get clogged up quite quickly (might be the dark juice I was vaping?) and the one coil head I had gave up the ghost, so thought I'd try something different. I will miss the swivelly drip tip though, that was great.
