I think I mentioned this upthread. It was always going to happen. We never get an easy run. At least we’re at home and we’ve won at home before. I still remember Pep’s face sitting in the away dugout.
That’s all the positives I can find. I would really have liked another cup this year but heyho, I’ve had one in my lifetime.

I'll take Mansfield away. We could do with a, shall we say, less stressful game given the number we're going through at the moment...

Mansfield away is tricky though how do you play it? They will be SO up for it and could make life difficult so what team do you put forward

yeah Newcastle Man City is harsh Newcastle have not had the luck this draw have they? premier league opposition each time!

TheNewGaard · 16/02/2026 19:54

We've got a big enough squad, finally, to put out a strong team, but also hopefully give minutes to the likes of Dowman, Salmon, Setford, etc..

Tiswa · 16/02/2026 20:05

It would be an interesting return from injury for Dowman!

they are the fascinating fa cup matches the ones that are trickier than you think - sometimes it is easy, sometimes it takes a tweak and sometimes they take you out

look at Brentford nothing so far 36 minutes in

Brefugee · 16/02/2026 22:21

Coventry vs Boro was on German tv so Mr Bref all happy

Coventry 3 - 1 Boro
Mr Bref (who has to get up very bloody early) went to bed very sad

Ha I said an away day at the Etihad was nailed on so at least as you say it’s at SJP.

At this point I’m assuming they’re going to regen 08/09 Barcelona for us to play in the quarter finals if we get through 😂

JasonTindallsTan · 16/02/2026 19:03

City. Of course. Only the fifth time of playing them this season 🙄

That's your punishment for so many of you coming to Villa Park on Saturday and making the trains after the match so bloody busy! 😏

I must admit that I did find the "they're here, they're there, they're every (expletive deleted) where, empty seats, empty seats" chant after your third goal somewhat amusing though 🙌

Villa NEED CL football next season and getting that through the league and / or the Europa League has to be the club's focus. Our squad is looking stretched and tired, so I'll take this loss if it gives us a better chance of doing so.

I also felt the game showed how dependent referees and their assistants have got on the VAR comfort blanket. Especially as even from the other end of the ground, I suspected our goal was offside and was pretty sure Digne was in the penalty box. All worked out for you in the end... until the 5th round draw.

ivyleafgeranium · 17/02/2026 16:13

For the Newcastle fans - you can beat city. OK they seem to have stabilised recently but there is something soft and flaky in that team ( or is it just wishful thinking that they won’t win everything again!). Good luck anyway, although you’ll probably then get Arsenal. Away from the cup (as we were terrible and got knocked out early) the mighty O’s have Plymouth tonight. So we will lose, I will freeze in the stands and also have to try to work out who is playing as we seem to have a hundred new signings since the last home game.

JasonTindallsTan · 17/02/2026 19:05

We’ve already beaten City once this season so we know we can do it, being at home is key but as you say, we’d probably be awarded with an away tie at the emirates or Stamford bridge 🙄

Kirbert2 · 17/02/2026 22:16

Well our new manager bounce is over and our woeful football has well and truly returned.

Will be lucky to get the play offs at this rate.

Scoobydoobydoo19 · 18/02/2026 09:45

I had a brilliant Tuesday night! (still cold though)

ivyleafgeranium · 18/02/2026 18:42

I had a miserable and freezing Tuesday. And our goalkeeper dropped the ball causing a goal and then went off injured later in the game. Orient is the graveyard of goalkeepers. We are on to our fifth this season. League two beckons.. Newcastle are having fun tonight! Shows how mad this CL format is though.

Kirbert2 · 18/02/2026 18:44

Bradford seem to be over their slump and now it's Huddersfield's turn again! We were absolutely awful against Donny and if we're not careful, we can say goodbye to the top 6 (again!).

Brightbluesomething · 18/02/2026 18:51

Today is a very good day for football. Faith restored. Howay the lads!

JasonTindallsTan · 18/02/2026 19:09

It is indeed a good night. Tripps and Gordon arguing as they walked off at HT isnt a good look though.

Brightbluesomething · 18/02/2026 19:15

I agree @JasonTindallsTan. But if it’s what’s reported, Gordon is our penalty taken and on for the record of highest goals in a match and the golden boot. Trips shouldn’t have asked him to share. Shearer wouldn’t.

TheNewGaard · 18/02/2026 19:53

Hoping we can do the business against Wolves tonight without calling on that prolific striker Owen Goal this time...

Couldn’t agree more. Gordon is right to insist that he takes it, it’s his to give up if he wishes but Tripps has no right to demand it.

We’re not exactly setting the world alight are we in the game! Need to get another goal.

TheNewGaard · 18/02/2026 21:41

This thing of players having the best shot of their career against Arsenal is becoming a bit tiring...

Itstheyearitstarts · 18/02/2026 21:57

You couldn’t make this shit up!

We did, unfortunately it was an own goal.

TheNewGaard · 18/02/2026 22:01

football is shit!

Tiswa · 18/02/2026 22:02

I mean it was an AWFUL goal

and even though Newcastle were amazing tonight the travel and the effects of playing give Man City an advantage

it’s going to be an interesting north London derby
