He couldn't even manage a whole Liz Truss!

That thought also crossed my mind 🤣 (but also 😱 and 🤔 - I quite like Ange, and feel sorry he’s been sacked so quickly, but can understand why they chose to sack him and am also often baffled by a lot of his decisions as manager!)

TheBabyFatmoss · 19/10/2025 09:10

Feel like we were lucky to get a draw against Bournemouth yesterday after the first half but an exciting match, a draw that felt like a win 😂

Tiswa · 19/10/2025 09:13

Apparently according to DS (and pretty sure they are false) that Marinakis is tempted to manage himself.

what strikes me here is that even though the rumour is likely to be made up how much you can actually almost believe it to be true

and that is the issue isn’t it that I think deep down that is what he wants

Notts Forest have gone from competing for top 4 to a relegation battle and it is all on the owner

Look at Bournemouth lost a number of top quality players and are still competing

MrsMitford3 · 19/10/2025 09:14

@TheBabyFatmoss What a crazy game-my DIL was there and she said the atmosphere was fantastic-Bournemouth fans were singing "we are top of the league".

Brilliant comeback-I bet it felt like a win!!

Brefugee · 18/10/2025 09:49

the beginning of the match is the wrong time, it should be different in every match, and after 15 minutes or so. And maybe 30 seconds...

I can imagine how a German protest would look, and i hope i never see it. (also: do we know how that works for season ticket holders? do they just get a refund?)

Agree about a different time. Something like taking a goal kick and letting the ball go through to the opposition keeper, then he kicks it back to the original goal kick taker. Or passing the ball out as slowly as possible and everyone standing still.

Brefugee · 19/10/2025 10:30

and 100% they need to do something like that in Miami

Tiswa · 19/10/2025 10:41

Villarreal are offering season ticket holders free flights and tickets

so the pay out for going must be fairly big.

Barcelona especially given their finances you can see why they have said yes

Tiswa · 19/10/2025 10:47

As I have said I think the problem is the US side just simply can’t see why we have an issue with it. International NFL is a huge positive for them - the London matches are seen well and the draft process now goes international. It is all about spreading American Football globally and it’s working - DS (13) and his friends are starting to get into NFL and NBA and the ability to be able to watch a game here helps immensely.

Some negatives are there but overall it is seen as a good thing

so I think they don’t get why it isn’t liked so much by us.

the differences in how winning and impact of losing is huge though. MLS finished it general league last night and the play offs have started. No relegation and only a supporters trophy for finishing top. The best of 3 play offs start now - where each match is treated separately

ThisCharmingMum · 19/10/2025 17:25

This new thread is much better than the last one. United score after 62 seconds at Anfield in this one!

I don't actually have a problem with some PL matches being played in the US. If other leagues are going to do it then we have to as well.

The PL is the best league in the world at the moment because we have some of the world's best players. If we don't move with the times then we will be left behind and we will not be able to compete in Europe.

Also, if the money dries up in the PL then the whole of English football will suffer including our national team as clubs will not have the money to invest in their academies.

Yeah I like this thread very very much! Get in Maguire!

Got about 5 hours of driving to do tomorrow during which time I can listen to ALL the football podcasts!

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2025 18:37

Glad you are enjoying the new thread @ThisCharmingMum Grin

No need for PL matches being played in the US, they can continue to do the promotional tours in pre-season and/or play non domestic cup finals there.

Actually, scap that non domestic cup final part. Just stick to pre-season matches.

I think the problem is home advantage means so much it is a disadvantage giving that up and could mean the difference between winning the league and not

Yes, we were disabled season ticket holders at Arsenal for about 10 years until it got too cold for my husband to attend the matches.

Yes I hadn't thought of that. But if we don't do it and the other leagues do then we will just be left behind.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2025 20:23

But it will only be a small number of clubs involved, those with a following.

I can't imagine Leeds v Burnley will be one of the matches chosen.

It's yet another attempt at an ESL

How would being ‘left behind’ like that effect the PL in a bad way though? Other than the obvious of money to be made.
I would have thought quite a few players would think positively about playing in a league that doesn’t require them to fly all over the world in the middle of the season!

Yes, it will inevitably only be the clubs which already have a following in the US. But that is life. Even if Arsenal wasn't one of the clubs chosen, I would still be in favour of it for the good of English football.

I get jealous of all the amazing player that Chelsea are able to buy, but again, it is for the greater good of the PL.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2025 21:00

I think it would be a disaster for the fans but great for the likes of Sky and the club sponsors.

What next, matches in Saudi?
