Luke Donald is really ramping up how the European team is going to cope with anticipated ‘hate’ from American spectators!

Always a fantastic competition. Back in the day, before Sky etc, there was one year when we had to follow it via Radio 4 and Teletext!

Not so sure it's just 'hate'. Behaviour towards the Europeans is awful. McIlroy was fabulous.

I’m not watching, I don’t understand what’s going on! But for the first time ever I’m paying attention and willing on the Europeans to win. Golf is such a Trump thing and I desperately want us to beat them at it!!

I'm watching, always do, but finding the behaviour of the American crowd really distasteful and distracting from the game. Saw Mcilroy's comment to tell a yank to shut the fuck up live earlier and laughed a lot.

The USA crowd are doing my head in though, shouting “get in the hole” after every shot. And the “USA! USA! USA!” Is tedious. At least the Europe supporters have a bit of range 😄.

Also, I love Shane Lowry even more for having a spectator evicted for being abusive 🥰

Disrespectful idiots is an understatement.

Appalling that some players are being subjected to the kind of abuse that is happening there: homophobic comments, referring to players as leprechauns, Irish trash and Teletubbies. One person throwing insults at McIlroy was a volunteer in uniform. And all the while, even though the players are able to pick out those making comments in the crowd, officials do nothing.

I saw an article the other day that said “we’re loud in New York but respectful” . Ha! I don’t think so. This has been really bad. Not followed all of it but DH and DS are glued as much as possible.

The American fans are a disgrace, they always are but it has got worse. Apparently a USPGA official coached them to chant “fuck you Rory”, which is unbelievably crass. I’ve been to four Ryder Cups in Europe and the atmosphere was fantastic. The difference is that that those crowds were wildly supportive of the Europeans but not abusive to the Americans. Good American shots would get a (weak) round of applause, not a boo. The American crowd is giving very little support to their team to try and raise their performance, they are just embarrassing the decent ones like Justin Thomas who was trying to quieten the crowd. I don’t know how they propagate through the crowd but there are always funny European chants. I liked that they were chanting “you’re French and you know you are” at De Chambeau.

I'm watching and loving it. Full credit to all of the team, but especially Rory for being able to play in such hostile conditions. Someone else said online that after this Bethpage should be banned from hosting the RC again and I agree.

I expect that an awful lot of the obnoxious supporters are MAGA Trump supporters so wonder if Europe win they'll claim they stole it somehow.

Europe have handled the situation brilliantly - they’ve channeled their anger into their play and it’s paying off big style.

There was a great moment yesterday where Rory was putting, the commentators said something like “we’ll see a big reaction here if this goes in” then he putted, zero reaction for a few seconds, commentators expressed surprise…and he let rip a huge “fucking come on!” Loved it.

Fleetwood and Rose are a fantastic pairing as well and Rose should be in the Ryder Cup team forever.

American fans are totally classless and I hope today will be a whitewash, will serve them right. I almost feel sorry for their players.

I am really enjoying it too. Missed most of yesterday as I was at the women's rugby world cup final but was checking the scores every hour or so. Looking forward to today.

Has anyone on here ever been to one live? I can't decide if it's better to watch on TV as you can see how it's all playing out or if the atmosphere is worth being there for.

It is 😂. I was born and raised in Liverpool and it is definitely one of my favourite sayings from home - very effective for a wide range of sporting activities or fisticuffs 😁.

I agree about the USA crowd, they’ve been booing and generally not in the traditional spirit of golf supporters. I watched an interview yesterday after play had finished and the retired American pro (can’t remember his name 😊) was saying that the crowd have been particularly abusive, that it’s unnecessary and very embarrassing for the US to be hosting the Cup with such a hostile crowd. In many of the games, the USA players were actively trying to calm the crowd down and show sportsmanship.

I do think it’s down to Trump, whipping up the attitude that the USA are somehow badly treated by the rest of the world.

It is therefore utterly brilliant that the Europe team are absolutely sticking it to them on home soil 😂😂 the standard of golf they are playing has been amazing

The golf is amazing, their individual scores would put all of them, including the Americans at the top of the leaderboard in any competition. I do think the course has been set up to be too easy, though, if it was a bit more challenging we might see wider differences between players.

I did wonder if the Americans were losing deliberately so they don’t have to go to the White House. 😂

As to whether it’s better live - definitely in Europe. You can follow all the matches on days 1 and 2 because there are screens everywhere and the atmosphere is amazing. Much, much more exciting than, say, The Open. I’ve never been to the Sunday so I don’t know what that’s like, I think it would normally be too nerve wracking for me!

It will be interesting to see how the crowd is in Ireland for the next one. I would think the American fans will be shut down pretty quickly if they try to bad mouth Rory and Shane there! If not torn limb from limb 😂. Though to be fair the visiting US fans usually stick to inanely shouting “in the hole” and “USA”.

I think it probably more that ticket prices are so ludicrously expensive that they are too much even for golf fans who are generally well heeled. It has been taken over by ‘corporate entertainment’ which is essentially people with no interest in the sport who spend the day drinking. The USA team were (mostly) showing their embarrassment too and trying to calm things. What’s weird is that mostly Americans love the Irish and spend their time faking Irish roots so I’m surprised it’s Lowry & Mcllroy (I know he’s NI) getting the worst of it?

Absolutely loving the Ryder cup this weekend! There has been some amazing golf played! It's just so sad how embarrassing the American crowd have been behaving! I went to a Sunday of the Ryder Cup in Europe which was brilliant! I'm really looking forward to the singles today! Which game will finish it do you think?

I think Rory is just a bit of a lightning rod for the abuse.

Ironically I’m playing golf today so I’ll miss the early action (no phones out on the course). Hopefully it will all be over by the time we finish.

I thought some of the European player interviews after were interesting - they seemed to downplay the scale of the behaviour - maybe tactical so it doesn’t appear to be getting to them?

I hope it’s McIlroy - he’s in the 4th pairing and DeChambeau has been playing well so Fitzpatrick may struggle to get one over on him. Fingers crossed Rose and Fleetwood continue the way they’ve been playing to secure the first two points.
