Well, Amorim was screwed. He told us they could beat any team in the Premiership. So he had no chance against a team from League 2...

Hellohah · 27/08/2025 22:23

I don't watch penalties, even for teams I don't support. Seems me and Ruben are cut from the same cloth 😂

Congrats to Grimsby, they deserved the win overall. And I love a good pitch invasion!

themonkeysnuts · 27/08/2025 22:23

Oh man that was utterly 🙈
superb Grimsby 🙌

Greg Johnson‬ ‪@gregianjohnson.bsky.social‬
Grimsby Town now hold the right to have Blundell Park referred to as The Theatre of Breams from now on.

How impressive were the Grimsby penalties?

JasonTindallsTan · 27/08/2025 23:17

Embarrassing that their 70 million quid striker only stepped up to take a pen just before the keeper. Well done Grimsby, they should have won in normal time, their last goal looked fine to me.

TheNewGaard · 27/08/2025 23:21

The Grimsby keeper post-match: "I'm a United fan so I'm half fuming!"

🤣🤣🤣

TheNewGaard · 27/08/2025 23:23

Buy that headline writer a beer!

🤣🤣🤣

I think the last Grimsby goal is very much whst VAR is good at doing - I can absolutely see why in those conditions and in the speed of the game he flagged (and flagged before the goal given he knew there was no VAR) but had there been it would have been given.

Still I always quite like it when there is no VAR!

the next round Sheffield Weds v Grimsby is the pick for me one will go through having overcome Premier Lesgue in two v different penalty shoot outs

TheSleepingGiant · 28/08/2025 07:32

Very impressed with Grimsby during last nights game, kept their composure and work rate throughout. An excellent ad for lower league footie.

Brefugee · 28/08/2025 09:39

is it in Grimsby or at Hillsborough, @Tiswa ?

Tiswa · 28/08/2025 09:50

Hillsborough - it certainly would be televised here if you have Sky as I think you can pick them but it might be a good game to pick up as well

Brefugee · 28/08/2025 09:54

I'll see if it fits in my schedule with my next visit, and maybe mosey along...

I hate to support the owner, but the local pubs and the pie sellers need support.

ETA: oh, just seen how soon they are, i won't make it :(

LlynTegid · 28/08/2025 09:59

I think Mr Amorim should stay.

Pity it is too late for a nomination for next comedy at the National Television Awards, Manchester United would win easily and I am sure Ant and Dec not winning would be something they would take with a good grace.

How on earth did he think that hiding away for the penalties would be a good look?

I know it is stressful, but that is what he is paid his millions for.

Tiswa · 28/08/2025 12:13

Who would want the job though? Why would Glasner and Iraola want a job that has the ability to be career ending. Amorim looks a shell of the man he was. Graham Potter has never recovered from Chelsea however much he has tried to shake it off

Apparently Newcastle have had a bid accepted for Stuttgart's giant young striker, Nick Woltemade, who did so well in the Euro U-21s. One striker down, Wissa to go?

TheNewGaard · 28/08/2025 20:51

I was just coming on to say it sounded like Newcastle were signing Voldemort...

Tiswa · 28/08/2025 21:01

@TheNewGaard given we are currently rewatching Harry Potter that is quite topical for us. He reminds me of someone but I can’t quite place it

I think even though it has been an insane transfer window the next 3 days could have some huge moves

Yep and then you can have the workshy swede. At the right price. We’ll be glad to see the back of him and I hope he doesn’t behave as much of an absolute cunt to you guys when Madrid or Barca come knocking in a couple of years (he will). Such a shame it came to this as he could have left a legend. But now he’ll never have a nice word said about him on Tyneside. Not the man I thought he was at all.

I would assume Isak will have a release clause if he signs for Liverpool.
I am not familiar with the ins and outs of their contracts, but I imagine a contract with a release clause pays less than a contract with one.
Isak was a relative unknown when he signed for us, I bet he thought 80k a week for 6 years, yes, I will have that, might have been 60k with a release clause.

I am not sure Liverpool will even want him now. If we can afford it, let him rot in the reserves.

Tiswa · 29/08/2025 09:50

The red flag for Isak for me isn’t his attitude over this or the fact he might move on it is his injury proneness and current lack of fitness and I suspect it is that which could scupper the deal because it brings his value down to the £125-£135 million Liverpool are rumoured to be bidding.

The fact he might move on in a couple of years to Madrid or Barcelona (and it would just be those two through his choice) won’t worry Liverpool - Liverpool have a very good track record at getting the money that they want. for them barring the above injury side Isak is an asset he is either an asset who wants to play or if he wants to leave to sell and make a profit (which if Madrid or Barcelona want him would be the case).

That is football it is literally how it works the players move on.

I was looking at the Champions Lwague draw yesterday and Liverpool are playing Frankfurt and the tweets about Hugo Ekitike going back were lovely. The goodbye Crystal Palace gave to Eze was even as a Spurs fan heartwarming

it shouldn’t be this toxic mess (unless you leave on a free to join close rivals that is an exception)

JasonTindallsTan · 29/08/2025 10:08

He has made it this toxic mess. Going on strike to force a move was a move that was entirely in his hands. It didn’t have to be this way but he chose to go scorched earth and that’s on him.

And @Nolongera he's on around 140k per week as far as I understand. Totally understand him wanting more or feeling like he’s worth more. But his agent fucked up with the contracts so it’s him he should have beef with.

JasonTindallsTan · 29/08/2025 10:09

Oh and yeah he’s injury prone to fuck, has a groin and thighs made of glass. Or he made out he did when playing for us. Given the way he is currently going on you can forgive me for thinking with hindsight that he just couldn’t be arsed most of the time.
