Is anyone enjoying the start of the new season?

We would be so, so sad as a family. Generations of Salford support.

Disappointed on BBC news yesterday that Lisa Nandy MP didn't mention Salford when she talked about Sheffield Wednesday and the demise of Morecambe FC.

Always football, never Rugby League.

It’s a travesty whats going on at Salford. How these owners passed the RFL fit and proper test is a joke & the RFL should be held accountable. Why is no one speaking up &
out? If they let Salford go out to get possibly Bradford in, the games gone.

Lisa Nandy is not a bright bulb. She is fortunate enough to represent the constituency of the rugby league World Champions, and yet she mostly bangs on about football. Tone deaf, in so many ways.

Not very happy with tonight's showing, although probably happier than Formby! 😀Always hard to tell at away games, standing behind the goal, you don't get the best view. But I thought Wigan were pretty poor. Fortunately, Warrington were worse. We'll need to buck up our ideas if we're hoping to beat HKR next week.

Sorry this is happening at Salford. No game this weekend. The loyal supporters must be so sad to see this unraveling.

Sirzy · 16/08/2025 10:43

I really feel for the fans, players and staff at Salford. The whole thing has been so badly handled by the Owners and the RFL.

duc748 · 16/08/2025 18:18

Agree. It's a shambles, and a stain on our sport.

Formby · 25/08/2025 21:35

Well, that’s our season well and truly over.
The Big Sam experiment hasn’t worked out well and we’ve given him a contract extension to stay next year. Hope it’s not more of the same disappointment.
Good luck to you all on this thread as you get towards the playoffs.

duc748 · 25/08/2025 22:41

That must be tough to take from Wire fans. I never saw SB as the answer at Warrington; either he'd flop, and that's no good, or (SB's imagined option), a couple of seasons of glory in SL, before he swans off to take the throne at the Rabbitohs. Well, so much for that, obviously.

Meanwhile, much better from Wigan on Sunday. An enjoyable Summer afternoon in the sunshine at the Brick, and I haven't able to say that many times this summer. But Bevan French at only 70% showed the difference he makes. But the whole team looked sharper, the dropped balls much fewer, passes found their mark. But Cats away, and Saints and Leeds to come, so no picnic there.

duc748 · 06/09/2025 00:34

Watching Wigan away... 🎵

Good result, and a nice run out on the bike! 😀

duc748 · 07/09/2025 01:07

For the first time, I properly watched the full 80 mins of a women's game; the derby for the League Leader's Shield. It made me wish I'd pitched up at the stadium a bit earlier, and at least seen the second half, but I was so impressed by the standard. The Wigan spine of 1, 6, 7, were so impressive and inventive in attack.

Formby · 20/09/2025 22:19

Well that’s ‘over and out’ for me (Wire) for this season. Been a painful one and far off expectations.
Good luck in the playoffs to those on this thread who have a team in them.
Will enjoy the Ashes series.

duc748 · 20/09/2025 22:22

So following on from my previous post, as the men's team now have a week off in the play-offs, I'm going to watch the women's semi-final game against Leeds tomorrow. Hopeful for GFs on two fronts!

I can't believe Wire haven't told Burgess to sling his hook, Formby! If there's one upside, it looks like you have a few promising youngsters coming through.

Formby · 20/09/2025 22:31

The women’s semis should be good games.

Burgess has been given the club’s backing for next season, don’t think many of the fans share this opinion.

Yes, we do have a number of potentially really good young players coming through, which is encouraging.

Sirzy · 27/09/2025 22:34

Well I didn’t see that result coming for saints! Fantastic try at the end

duc748 · 27/09/2025 22:43

I was only listening to the radio commentary, but it sounded like Saints were second-best throughout, but I'm sure they won't care about that. Wigan v Leigh is going to be epic.

Formby · 28/09/2025 09:25

I watched on TV.
Wow that last throw of the dice was really entertaining.
I thought both teams were below par and Saints will have to up their game next week by a mile to go through. Agree the Wigan v Leigh game will be a great watch.
Finally we’ve won something this season! Well done to Academy team winning their grand final yesterday and being unbeaten in the league- promising signs for the future.

nowtygaffer · 01/10/2025 11:22

What's going on with the Wigan v Leigh fixture?! Is it just a publicity stunt for Derek Beaumont? Not a good look is it?

duc748 · 01/10/2025 11:27

Maybe Beaumont been on the Columbian marching powder again? Man's a complete berk. Monday Lam was saying, all our players are sick; now this from Beaumont. Leigh have been offered over twice the legal minimum number of away tickets. And the simple fact is the game is not sold out. Any Leigh fan who wants to attend will be able to do so.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/10/2025 14:12

Absolutely insane, I hope they sort it quickly. Why would they not play

FawnFrenchieMum · 01/10/2025 15:37

Maybe they should just boot them out and give Leeds the place 😆

Sirzy · 01/10/2025 15:38

I saw that before. I wonder if Beaumont was hoping saying it Wigan would give them what they wanted but Wigan called weren’t willing to play his games?

if they don’t play I hope it is taken into account when it comes to IMG gradings

duc748 · 01/10/2025 15:55

I liked the style of the Wigan club statement:

At 10.37pm on Tuesday 30 September, our Club was informed in writing by Derek Beaumont of Leigh Leopards that they do not intend to fulfil Friday’s scheduled Semi-Final fixture.

That 'at 10.37pm' is a lovely touch! 😁
