Is anyone enjoying the start of the new season?

Where will you be watching Magic Weekend, @Formby ? Having paid 15 quid to watch Sky Sports+ meagre coverage for the last couple of Wigan games (and let's be right; Sky Sports' treatment of rugby league is just rubbish these days), I feel a trip to the pub is in order for Sunday!

Formby · 03/05/2025 09:19

We have sky sports but will be watching our game from behind the sofa lol 🤣 , season probably gone for us now sadly.
pub sounds a great plan
hope it’s a great weekend for everyone going

duc748 · 24/05/2025 23:35

Are you OK, Formby? Cold poultices? 😃Seriously, watching the highlights, HKR are a very good side, and they will punish you. Catalans, OTOH, were a bit rubbish today. I was pleased to see Luke Keary put back in his box, though; after his snotty comments about the standard of SL; well, mate, you might look at yourself and your own team, hammered 0-48 on your own patch.

Formby · 25/05/2025 09:45

You know, I’m actually looking forward to Wembley, even though the odds are well stacked against us. It’s the only final we’ll make this season so we’ve decided to go. How it goes depends on who we can get on the pitch and HKR are just so good. But it’s a great occasion and you’ve gotta have a little bit of hope and a lot of good luck.
I predict Wigan v Leeds grand final.
(My other team is Liverpool FC 🏆 but armchair viewer only sadly).

duc748 · 25/05/2025 12:03

I've not totally discounted going to Wembley myself, as the Wigan Women are in in the Final. I used to go every year at one time, regardless of who was in the Final, but haven't done that for a long time now.

duc748 · 07/06/2025 11:37

Challenge Cup Final day! Will be cheering Wigan Women on this morning, but I imagine they wll go in as underdogs against Saints. The mens Final between Hulll KR and Warrington should be a decent contest. Will the return of George Williams be enough for the Wire? I doubt it, but we'll see.

duc748 · 07/06/2025 13:31

Well that was fine effort by Wigan, deserved winners, and frankly, much the better side. Grace Banks is a joy to watch, and much credit must go to Denis Betts and his training staff. A day they will never forget.

Formby · 07/06/2025 17:43

Sat on the coach about to travel home. It’s a long journey ahead. Soaking wet, beer in my hair 🤦‍♀️.
But so, so proud of our effort but absolutely gutted.

Sirzy · 07/06/2025 18:20

I think wire were the better team overall today but well done KR!

They were. HKR really didn't fire at all, and were a bit fortunate to get the win. It's a long journey home all right, especially if the result hasn't gone your way! Well done for getting there, @Formby !

duc748 · 05/07/2025 23:58

Has the thread fallen off a cliff a bit? 😀

You'd think so, to watch Wigan lately! It's been painful, even though we have limped through a few scrappy encounters. But out-enthused and outplayed by Leigh this week. So Matty Peet has some big challenges ahead. We know Bevan French will be back for the business end of the season, but we need more cohesion without him, and our forwards to step up. SL this season may not be the two-horse race everyone is assuming it will be. All to play for.

Formby · 06/07/2025 14:42

Nice to see comments back on this thread.
HKR riding high at the moment and not sure we’re going to limp into the top six. I never expected us to be in this position at the start of the season but then again it’s true what’s said about it being our year ………
We desperately need a big prop enforcer.

duc748 · 06/07/2025 15:01

So do we! We've been bullied by teams lately.
Meanwhile some great games in the NRL this week. Mark Nawaqanitawase, what a talent he is!

duc748 · 03/08/2025 19:11

Things aren't looking great for the Wire.

Not that Wigan have been impressive lately either, but we have points in the bag to be comfortably in the play-offs, although a top two finish is no longer guaranteed.

Warrington Wolves' season is over as inexplicable reality arrives

The Wire won't make the top six this season.

The article rings very true and the whole season so far has been frustrating as a long time supporter - guess Wembley was our highlight.
We’ve made a couple of signings so far for next season but lost Vaughan who’s playing really well. Williams and Burgess both looking to go to Aus has been unsettling too.
Not going on Friday, will be watching from home but my daughter and her bf have our tickets, so hopefully they will have a decent game to watch- but definitely not expecting a win.
Looking forward to the Ashes though.

duc748 · 04/08/2025 19:36

I'll be there. I hope it's fine; I usually go on my bike. But we aren't playing any better lately, really. Anyone's game.

ListenLinda · 05/08/2025 12:16

Checking back in, hope to see my team (Rhinos) back to winning ways this week

duc748 · 05/08/2025 13:11

Won't be easy at Leigh.

duc748 · 05/08/2025 13:20

BTW, anyone else concerned about the lousy running of our sport in this country? Bringing back the Fat Controller Nigel Wood, who they paid off just to go away a few years ago, how can this moving the game forward? There seems to be a clear plan to get Bradford (and maybe London too) into SL, and if they can ditch the French clubs in the process (and the Magic weekend), they'll do it. How retrograde is this?

Last night I watched this podcast with Kris Radlinski. It's 40 mins long, and you may or may not be interested, but I'd much prefer to have guys like him running the sport, who have the big picture in mind, than the yesterday's men currently in charge.

Dufty named in our 21 man squad, what a shambles.
It will be very interesting to see what happens in 2026 to our sport, and I fear it won’t be for the best.

duc748 · 06/08/2025 15:01

It will. I think a breakway from SL is not out of the question.

ListenLinda · 07/08/2025 17:23

duc748 · 05/08/2025 13:11

Won't be easy at Leigh.

No it won’t. They are very much the in form team. But will settle in for what should hopefully be a cracking match

Sirzy · 07/08/2025 17:26

Looks like the mess at Salford is going from bad to worse, at this rate I can’t see them lasting out the season sadly.

duc748 · 07/08/2025 17:46

The demise of Salford suits Wood & co. They want Bradford and London in, sharpish. And the fact that this shambles at Salford has dragged on for so long can largely be put down to the RFL too.
