And fair play to Klopp with his comment on Pickford, WOW indeed!

Frustrating afternoon at St James’ today. Another shoddy VAR decision, absolutely nothing wrong with our goal, Joe Willock got shoved into the Palace keeper, it was either an own goal or a penalty. Absolutely never ruled out for a foul 😐

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2022 19:58

I saw a comment on twitter saying VAR checks the badge first....

Certainly feels like that at times.

Dunc you was robbed!

Eddie haven't seen that looking forward to catching up on MOTD, was listening to the WHU match and it appears VAR got it dreadfully wrong there as well.

I don't get it, if the play is stopped and the flow of the game halted then VAR has to get it right.

AndNobbyDancing · 03/09/2022 20:04

VAR checks the badge first....

I don't believe this, I think they check with the bookies first.

Tell me about it. Kane apparently well offside.

I'm expecting to be playing against 13 men tomorrow. The ref is from Salford and the VAR chap is from Manchester...

AndNobbyDancing · 03/09/2022 20:21

Respect to Villa today, I know there are rumours about Gerrard's future but they did well today.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 03/09/2022 20:27

They did. But Haaland is just a machine. Is he just going to score in every single match you think?

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2022 20:30

Apparently Villa got denied the win by VAR as well, Coutinho not offside? Haven't seen it so could be wrong.

Villa never went to VAR, linesman put flag up and red blew the whistle, then Coutinho scored…..definitely wasn’t offside though. I don’t get the point of VAR tbh, often still seem to make the wrong call and disturbs the whole game. Even goal celebrations are stilted now.

AndNobbyDancing · 03/09/2022 21:08

Agree Eddie Haarland is something else.

Agree Sun I don't know what they need to do to make it work, TMO seems to work better in rugby.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 03/09/2022 21:19

Haaland is scary.

But at least they don't seem to be quite so secure at the back. Gives us other teams a chance this season.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 03/09/2022 21:22

I was strongly in favour of VAR when it was proposed (mainly because Arsenal always seemed to be punished by appalling refereeing, the constant, unpunished, assaults on the late Jose Reyes at ManUre was particularly irksome), but I'm afraid it's been so consistently awfully applied I almost think we'd be better off without it.

Funny how it seems to work fine in the Euros, and, indeed, in European competitions...

sunstoked · 03/09/2022 22:22

Agree that it really is only the premiership where VAR doesn’t work. I also like it in rugby that you can hear what the refs are saying, sometimes in football im really confused what they are even looking at! My DD is a City supporter so was cross about the result today, but it’s good to see City aren’t infallible, makes the prem much more interesting for us neutrals with teams in lower leagues😁

WhiteHartLane · 04/09/2022 08:57

Was at Gills v Swindon grudge match yesterday. Another 0-0, but considering Gills played with 10 men for 80 minutes they were much the better side. Just need to find the back of the bloody net and quick!

Seen the Spurs highlights, scoreline flattered Fulham. Feeling bad for Son and hope he finds his form soon as he is becoming dejected. Love watching Richarlison, his assist for Kanes goal last week 😍

DuncinToffee · 04/09/2022 09:36

Spurs fans are qyickly understanding why we loved Richy so much.

After watching MoTD, the decision against WH's goal was terrible, not sure about the Newcastle one, in those situations the goalie usually gets the protection.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 04/09/2022 10:33

Even though the collision was as a result of a shove by a Palace player on Joe Willock? Without that, Willock was aiming to head the ball and was therefore denied a goal scoring opportunity due to the foul on him so penalty surely? I don’t think you can discount the shove.

*still salty 😂

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 04/09/2022 10:34

And actually I would be a lot less salty if the ref had actually seen all the angles and still made that decision. But to not show him the angle where the push is the clearest is utterly dismal.

DuncinToffee · 04/09/2022 10:56

I would be salty in your position too Smile

There was a push but imo both players made the most of it, it's part of the game and shouldn't be over analysed by VAR.

OP posts:
EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 04/09/2022 11:13

Aye, the ref got it right initially. Ah well onwards and upwards. A full week off to recover before West Ham on Sunday and hopefully we’ll get our revenge on Palace in the cup 😊

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 04/09/2022 13:07

I have to say I'm expecting a bit of a farce this afternoon. A couple of penalties to Utd, Xhaka sent of for daring to be in the vicinity of Fernandes, and Jesus, Odegaard, Martinelli, and Saka all stretchered off after assaults from McTominay and Maguire with nary a yellow card shown.

We've seen this before...

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 04/09/2022 13:39

As someone just pointed out on twitter, Arsenal fans are far more worried about the officials than they are about the ManUre players!

Goonergirl14 · 04/09/2022 14:10

Man U seem to be finding their form but stil confident for today. I don't think Haaland is real, he is some sort of robot, needs his batteries taken out for a while! Unreal player..fabulous I have to admit..

BitOutOfPractice · 04/09/2022 14:20

Hello - I've just found you!

I'm a Wolves fan with two kids not especially interested in footie but they'd say Wolves if pushed! I have lived in Essex for the last 25 years so it can be lovely being a wolves fan here!

Thank the good lord we got a win yesterday (sorry@AndNobbyDancing !)

We've made some exciting signings this summer (Nunes in particular) but I am not 100% convinced about our manager.
