I’ve sobered up and am disappointed but pragmatic about the result. Our time will almost certainly come.

Yes, it definitely will.

Unfortunately, Man U seem to have got their act together at exactly the wrong time. I am relieved that we have already played them twice in the league.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/03/2023 12:25

I would have gone for a Toon win, just as I don't like seeing ManUre win anything! But I'll probably start to feel like that about Newcastle in a few years if they throw money at things and start winning.

I can't believe that tonight's Premiership games aren't being shown on TV at all! I mean, who cares about the FA Cup?!

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 01/03/2023 17:00

We seem to be aiming to do things in a pretty sustainable way so far but god I can’t wait to win something. Anything.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 01/03/2023 23:41

Well, had to listen to Talk Shite, but after a slow start it seemed quite easy. Good to see Smith Rowe coming back.

I used to have a soft spot for Everton, but I'm afraid that any team that has Maupay in it I'd like to see fall into the depths of hell. At least Zinchenko had his measure.

And, because I feel like I've got to keep it up or something will go wrong;

i watched some of the Arsenal match on German sky! (my Present Husband was watching Arsenal - we have a soft spot for Xhaka - on the TV and the Liverpool match on his laptop. He frequently also has his own club on the FootMob App on the live ticker. He is not to be saved at this point)

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 02/03/2023 09:30

@YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue

Agree about Maupay. I have never forgiven him for accidentally on purposely injuring Leno. Mind you, it actually turned out fine for us as Martinez was as good, if not better.

He is just a windup merchant which is why Dyche started him yesterday. He saw how much he wound us up when he came on as a sub last time and thought that it wouldn't do Everton any harm. Well luckily for us it backfired.

Trossard had another good game and pleased that Nketiah had an assist.

enjoyed reading German footy websites mentioning the fish at Grimsby. Are you allowed inflatables again in the EFL? (had to explain to a load of Germans once why the Man City fans had inflatable bananas with them...

I remember years ago seeing a Grimsby match on TV. It wasn't going well for them and all the fans in the stand just standing there, grim faced, with an inflatable fish tucked under their arms will stay with me forever.

Looking forward to seeing this at the quarter final... and currently putting my order in for inflatable seagulls on Amazon :)

Brefugee · 02/03/2023 10:47

Brighton fans have form. I'm sure i've mentioned it here before but the sight of thousands of Brighton fans at Wembly in Jimmy Melia "wigs" is another abiding hilarious memory of how fantastic football crowds can be

I thought Southampton banned Grimbsy from bringing them? There were none when Grimbsy played Gillingham 2 weeks ago but they bought their scary looking mascot with them 🤣

I feel like that about any club that gives the time of day to Joey Barton. Nasty piece of work he is shouldn't be anywhere near football.

Brefugee · 02/03/2023 12:26

my DH showed me a photo yesterday, it looked like more fish, but here's the report he was looking at

it says: outsider Grimsby Town are looking at a sensation being 2:0 up against Southampton and the fans are celebrating in their special way.
Note: Grimsby is famous for its fish market.

also the comments under the fb post are all brilliantly supportive, Germans love the English "Tradition Clubs" as they call them. We saw Sheffield FC (oldest club) play against a Dortmund fan-11 a few years ago and when people realised we were there to watch Sheffield and i explained it's my hometown, loads of people were just coming over to talk about English football and so on.

In fact football here is very respectful of all those old english clubs. Sheffield FC came over in their anniversary year (150 years i think) and did a tour and there were lots of reports about it. As a fundraiser as they don't have a ground. And lots of Bundesliga clubs, like Gladbach (founded 1900) Dortmund (founded 1905) Fortuna Düsseldorf (founded 1895) transfered that amount of money, so EUR 1,900, EUR 1,905 and EUR 1,895. It was brilliant

Just seen the ban on them bringing them was lifted. Good on them, they've not been doing that well in League 2 but they are holding their own in the cup.

AllAboutMargot · 02/03/2023 14:41

Grimsby gal here! Grimsby Town is a very old club (not as old as some, granted) and have had more than their fair share of highs and lows over the years. We were in the top flight once upon a time!

I've supported GTFC on and off since going to watch them with my dad when i was 12 in 1972.

My son was at the game against Southampton last night, along with 4,000 other Grimsby Town fans.

It's brilliant watching your team beating a top flight side and getting to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

I feel for the Southampton fans, though. It's hard to get kicked so hard like that when you're struggling in the league.

I'm with you on Joey Barton. Also Alan Smith (the Leeds one, obviously), and Robbie Savage.

And I'm starting to think that about Scott McTominay too.

Also, I always listen to the commentary on Arsenal.com

I'll have to give that a try next time.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 02/03/2023 17:40

Just finally seen this bit of skill from Ødegaard last night. Just brilliant!

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 02/03/2023 20:40

A better version here...

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 02/03/2023 20:40

Yes, amazing. I always feel sorry for Iwobi. He tries so hard but just fall short.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 04/03/2023 17:22

Well that was another roller coaster. Thank goodness Reiss Nelson was fit enough to play. He must be the most underrated player we have. He completely changed the game.

We were at the Emirates when he scored against twice against Notts Forrest which we had been there today as well.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 04/03/2023 17:29

I don't think I can take too many of those! But Jeezus H Christ, what a result in the end. No idea what happened for the opening goal, will have to wait for MoTD, but the determination to keep fighting is inspirational.

I hope we get a striker back soon though...

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 04/03/2023 19:37

Goonergirl14 · 04/03/2023 21:45

Yup we are, love Nelson don't know why he doesn't get played more..I just knew they were going to score a winner! Can't wait for MOTD!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 05/03/2023 17:15

Arsenal Women were brilliant today winning the league cup. It's our first trophy for 4 years and no-one expected us to win as Chelsea have been on fire all season.

They conceded the first goal in the first 2 minutes (so they did better than the men yesterday) but came back to win 3-1.

It was the best we have seen them play for months and it was without two of our best players (Beth Mead and Miedema).
