I saw Pope on MoTD. That was just madness. He could have hoofed it out, or just made a decent header. Rush of blood I guess.

I do think the rule on missing games is stupid though. You should miss games in the competition that you get the red cards in, not in completely different competitions.

The problem with that is that if a team is clearly losing a match in a knock out competition then they will have nothing to lose by making dangerous tackles in the last few minutes of the match.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/02/2023 10:27

Also, I can't believe Brighton lost. I remember watching them last season when they just couldn't score goals and didn't really come close to scoring.

This year they are so different and had some excellent chances but just weren't able to take them.

Crazy thing though it’s only red cards that carry over, yellows don’t, it should at least be consistent.

Spurs go 4th. May not be there for long, but....

This is funny, not sure they thought that through Grin

Wasn't a classic derby but happy with the 3 points and clean sheet. A top 4 finish is still something to play for considering our inconsistencies.
Gills 5 points clear of the bottom with 2 games in hand after another win Saturday. Just hope Harris doesn't suffer the curse of the Manager of the Month award 😂

@MustTryHarderAndHarder It was disgraceful ! The highlights on MOTD didn't even come close to showing the full story.... Yet again, terrible refereeing, embarrassing tactical time wasting from a team playing anti football. Totally spoils football. Left before the end... couldn't watch any more.
Unfortunately De Zerbi now on a red for the cup game next week for telling the ref his thoughts.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 20/02/2023 14:13

Hmm, terrible refereeing/VAR. That seems to be becoming a bit of a theme this season...

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 24/02/2023 23:09

OK, just for something to think about, and now that the January recruits have had a little time to bed in - who does everyone think is the best signing this season? From a general, or just from your own club point of view. I'd like to see everyone's ideas before deciding on general.

For Arsenal - Zinchenko has been a revelation. £32 million. He's almost like a cheat code at times, and as a childhood Gooner he gets the crowd, and I absolutely love him. On the downside, he doesn't give Martinelli much backup, but Gabi is being used as a break from the high press, as teams know that when the ball is lumped up to him they need to get at least 2, if not 3, players back to stop him.

But I'd have to say my choice is Ødegaard. For £30 million, he's arguably vying with de Bruyne as the best playmaker in the league at the age of 23. He's been sensational, and is only going to get better. I think he's been a steal.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 25/02/2023 09:52

@YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue

Yes, I agree about Ødegaard. I couldn't believe that the decided to join us. Klopp used make a beeline for him each time we played Liverpool and I really thought that he would go to them.

Zinchenko is also great, but it is very stressful when he decides to dribble right in front of our goal.

I hope Trossard proves how good he is soon.

WhiteHartLane · 25/02/2023 11:43

Trossard is definitely one to watch he brings to Arsenal the Saka threat down the left hand side and will prove to be a pivotal player given time. So I'm going to go with him as the best general signing.
Haaland is up there however Pep has to rearrange the team completely to fit around him which has upset their rhythm.

Difficult to say for Spurs, I would like to have seen more of Spence in the rwb role however he seems to be struggling at Renne. Maybe Lenglet, he's added a bit of structure to our defence and means Davies can go forward rather than play as lb.

Easy for Gillingham, our goalie Glenn Morris, although we really struggled for goals during the first half of the season he has pulled off many epic saves that have kept the scorelines respectable.

I'm going to throw a manager in and say Marco Silva, I love how he sets teams up and Fulham have been one of my faves to watch this season.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 25/02/2023 17:05

Less stressful than last week and I hope that Ben White has learnt his lesson. What is the point of fouling the keeper so deliberately because even if we scored directly from the corner, it would be disallowed.

Trossard had a great game. His disallowed goal was amazing.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 26/02/2023 08:48

Massive game for the black and white contingent today. I’ve spent most of the morning in tear reading emotional articles and watching footage of the geordies taking over Trafalgar Square last nights. Husband and son are on the train to Wembley and I shall take my place in heaven for giving up my ticket so they could go together 😇

burblish · 26/02/2023 09:50

@EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy Good luck to the Toon - and yes, you are definitely going straight to heaven for that act of sacrifice!

WhiteHartLane · 26/02/2023 09:57

@EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy your a good one sacrificing your ticket, I hope your good deed is rewarded with a Newcastle win and that your dh and ds have a great day.

Gills won again, getting boring now 😂
Beat Wimbledon, a side they usually struggle against. I like Wimbledon and their story but they were an absolute disgrace yesterday, kicking, shirt pulling, headbutting. Certainly weren't there to play footie. Officials were worse than useless, gills were forced into 2 subs early on due to being kicked off the park yet no cards came out til the 2nd half. Their goal was miles offside too, lino an absolute bellend.

Looking forward to seeing the match on my Football ticker today. I'm rooting for Newcastle.

In other news: happy that my English team are top of the league (one) but my bloody useless flippin' German team, Gladbach, dew (0:0) against bottom of the table Schalke. The next week lost away 1:4 to 2nd from bottom Hertha. Beat Bayern Sodding München 3:2 at home last week and this week? Lost away 0:4 to Mainz. FML and all that.

Oblomov23 · 26/02/2023 15:32

Dh is at Spurs, watching Spurs v Chelsea. 2-0. Pleased for Skipp to score his first goal, in a derby.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 26/02/2023 15:34

I mean it was expected but still booooo....poor Potter. I dont think this was the job for him to take..or Tuchel was the man to sack!

Oblomov23 · 26/02/2023 18:58

Watched Man U win carabao cup. Most thought ten hag wouldn't last. He does appear like a bit of an idiot sometimes. But he's done well, coped with the Ronaldo situation classily, and here he is.

DuncinToffee · 26/02/2023 19:31

Yes Ter Hag has got them play well, shame, I wanted a Newcastle win Smile

I’ve sobered up and am disappointed but pragmatic about the result. Our time will almost certainly come.
