PGMOL
PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday.

So that's alright then...

BitOutOfPractice · 12/02/2023 18:27

Talking of bad decisions, did you see MOTD last night where Neves spoke about why the ref sent Lemina off? Apparently for being the third player to approach him. Is that even a thing?

Seething !! Absolute disgrace. If non professionals can see it then what the hell are the so called professionals doing ?? That lost point could have a massive impact for us at the end of the season (along with the other teams who suffer because of the incompetence involved), but they've apologised, so its fine.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 13/02/2023 10:18

Exactly. If we end up losing the league by 1 point, will the PGMOL compensate us? Will we get an asterisk? Or will f*ck all be done as per usual...

LeatherTuscadero · 13/02/2023 17:52

I read today that each game that Arsenal hasn't won this season, there has been a refereeing error in the goals scored against us.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 13/02/2023 18:05

I think the one against Man Utd was an error in our first goal scored, which was wrongly not given (Lee Mason on VAR again - what a coincidence), and would undoubtedly have changed the progress of the game.

As someone on twitter said - "No team has taken more points from Arsenal this season than Lee Mason"...

AndNobbyDancing · 13/02/2023 21:44

Mmmm we need a coach that can get us out of the relegation battle, so obviously let's look at managers that have been sacked by LEEDS.

I couldn't get into tonight's match but now it is quite funny.

Lakeyloo · 14/02/2023 09:55

Taken with a pinch of salt (and I'm sure SOME of the decisions have been right) amount of points gained or lost due to VAR decisions according to ESPN
Brentford +4
Fulham +4
Liverpool +4
Newcastle +3
West Ham +2
Aston Villa +1
Everton +1
Chelsea 0
Crystal Palace 0
Leicester City 0
Manchester United 0
Wolves 0
Arsenal -1
Nottm Forest -1
Southampton -1
Tottenham -1
Bournemouth -2
Manchester City -3
Leeds -4
Brighton & Hove Albion -6

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2023 11:26

Wolves only on 0 because the outrageous var offside decision against Liverpool when there were “not enough cameras at Anfield” 🙄🙄🙄 was in the FA Cup.

Great news WhiteHart.

I’ve spent the last day or two listening to a special podcast that has been compiled from never before heard recordings with Bobby Robson before he died. A really interesting step back through his life from the man himself. Not gonna lie, I had to pretend the wind was making my eyes water a few times while out walking the dogs when in fact it was just the poignancy of his words knowing he wasn’t going to be here much longer. He talks about his childhood, his time at Fulham, Ipswich, England, Barcelona and finally Newcastle. I recommend it to everyone who liked SBR.

it’s called Bobby ‘90, to commemorate what would have been his 90th birthday and it’s part of the Pod on the Tyne series. Simply beautiful 😭

Oblomov23 · 15/02/2023 12:08

Valentines Day 23, sat watching Spurs v Milan, CL. Lost 1-0, but it could've been worse, we played ok. I'll take that.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 15/02/2023 15:20

Apologies to the Sp*rs fans on here, but I just had to share this from Paddy Power...

tbh i think refs should do more of this. It should be like rugby where the only ones allowed to approach the ref are the captains, unless he beckons someone over. All the players waving imaginary yellow cards? they get one. Anyone touches the ref? red card. It would soon stop.

As for VAR. Sheffield Sodding Wednesday had a goal disallowed in a match without VAR because they showed a replay on the big screen, and the ref (or asst ref) decided to disallow it. Fuckers. That definitely shouldn't be allowed. If there is no VAR in League 1 (i think not?) then they can't pull a stunt like that.

Oblomov23 · 15/02/2023 15:55

@YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue

Link. I thought was really funny. Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 15/02/2023 16:32

@Brefugee he hadn't even got within 10m of him. And he was the player that had been fouled. If they have decided this is a thing now, perhaps they should have let players know? Our captain, and all the pundits I've heard, have never heard of this rule. Fortunately it didn't affect the result, despite Nathan Jones saying that playing with 10 men for an hour was an advantage for Wolves! 😂

Brefugee · 15/02/2023 16:38

i think they talk about things like this at ref meetings, i know they do in the Bundesliga. I remember a couple of seasons ago they had a mad rule they were going to doubly enforce. First match of the season one of our players got sent off, and BAM! all the clubs complained and it didn't happen to anyone else. But he still had a 2 match suspension.

DuncinToffee · 15/02/2023 17:12

The problem is the inconsistency of VAR use and how the laws are applied.

And coming up with a new rule and then only enforce it once, very recognisable. I think Niasse is still the only player banned for diving. Never happens to a Sky 6 team.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 15/02/2023 21:31

Well that was a bummer. The difference was the finishing.

I guess we're having our November in February this year. We can still do it, and I'd have snapped your hand off for 2nd this time last year! Haaland is still a monster...

No one understands it. Still makes errors and something that could be a penalty isn't any the other way round..sometimes it works..buy when it gets it wrong it's really wrong...
Our penalty.. prob shouldve been. Mean shouldn't be relying on penalties to win but not the point.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 15/02/2023 23:42

OK, isn't the 3rd person approaching the referee supposed to get a card?

Or is this just more random bollocks from the PGMOL...

Brefugee · 16/02/2023 07:48

refs allowing that kind of crowding need to pull on their big boy pants and send all the players away with a warning that the next to approach will get a yellow card. And then do it.
There is absolutely no reason for a team to do that, no matter how shit the refereeing is. And coaches should be shouting from the sidelines for them to stop.

I'm not sure how it is in the PL but in the Bundesliga before the season all the refs and the BL reps get together and highlight the rule changes, and rules that they are going to enforce more strongly (this season i think it's handballs will be penalised no matter what...). Don't they do that in the Premier League? What i think is that the FAs or UEFA or FIFA need to say: touching the ref and crowding the ref is a yellow. And enforce that. It is intimidation.

Incidentally, did anyone else want de Bryune to lamp Arteta (much as i love him, he is also a dick at times) yesterday when he kicked the ball away?

DuncinToffee · 16/02/2023 09:46

Ofcourse it is, they and the FA just making things up as going along, whatever suits their narrative.

OP posts:
MustTryHarderAndHarder · 16/02/2023 15:32

@Brefugee

Yes, as an Arsenal fan, I think that Arteta needs to calm down. Why did he kick the ball away? We weren't winning at the time and even if we were he should not do that just to waste time.

DuncinToffee · 17/02/2023 22:33

Lee Mason has left the PGMOL by mutual consent
