Just got to be careful you don't get caught like City - then any trophies will be irrevocably tainted.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 08/02/2023 21:24

I’d hope that was unlikely, our books were pretty good to start with as Mike Ashley spent nowt and we’re doing slow and steady spending, not breaking the bank and going mad. FFP appears to be at the forefront of the minds of everyone involved with the club despite the fans clamouring for them to spend big.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 08/02/2023 21:25

Oh And come on Leeds 💪🏻💪🏻

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 08/02/2023 22:07

Although an asterisk next to your name isn't always a bad thing - see the 1990-91 table...

What do you mean?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 09/02/2023 12:33

Well, we had points deducted for the Battle of Old Trafford, and still ended up well clear at the top!

Ah ok. I have just read about it. Was it really that bad or were mass brawls less tolerated than they are now?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 09/02/2023 15:37

It was pretty bad. They always tried to kick seven shades of sh*t out of us, and we had characters that were going to give as good as they got. McClair and Winterburn certainly had no love lost between them! I think every player on the pitch was involved in the punch up, except David Seaman.

Some of the challenges would be straight reds these days unless done by Man Utd players obviously and Arsenal weren't holding back either.

It's led to some pretty tasty rivalry over the years since...

LeatherTuscadero · 10/02/2023 17:01

1990-91 was the season that Arsenal won the league while losing only one game (to Chelsea if I remember correctly).

Dropped that game because captain Tony Adams was in prison at the time.

He kinda jokes that he should be called an Invincible, because that season Arsenal went unbeaten in all the games he played in.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 10/02/2023 23:10

I think we only concede 8 goals that season (bettered by Chelsea some time later), but that was because we were so far ahead that we started winning 6-1, 7-2, etc. and George Graham was complaining about how we'd gone too "cavalier" at the end of the season!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/02/2023 17:16

Spurs are a weird side..gone from beating City to today's result

WhiteHartLane · 11/02/2023 17:33

Called that before kick off (the result not the big defeat 🤦‍♀️) been at work so didnt see the game but no doubt it was shambolic.
Gills lost too so a bad day for footie in this house.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 11/02/2023 17:44

Well, that was disappointing. We should be able to get past teams who park the bus, but we seem to be struggling at the moment.

Twitter seems to think Brentford's goal was offside as well (I haven't seen it yet).

♫"Top of the league, we're havin' a laugh"♫ - for now, at least...

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 11/02/2023 18:00

Yes, don't know about off-side, but I don't understand why the free kick went their way.

Anyway, we played better than against Everton. I hope he starts Trossard instead of Martinelli on Wednesday.

If Spurs can beat City, so can we.

Sad about the Ladies losing. We are really missing Mead and Miedema. City were much better than on Wednesday and we weren't able to hang on to the ball.

AndNobbyDancing · 11/02/2023 18:10

Oh I miss the 90's.

I was meant to be at the Saints game today but thought why bother when the rugby will be better.

I've been through all the ups and downs with Southampton, but honestly it is so very horrible being a saints support at the moment.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 11/02/2023 18:14

Newcastle have completely forgotten how to play football today.

AndNobbyDancing · 11/02/2023 19:22

Will be bloody unfair if Newcastle win

AndNobbyDancing · 11/02/2023 19:23

And your away kit is gopping (nod to the 90's)

AndNobbyDancing · 11/02/2023 19:30

Is that the result Eddie wanted?

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 11/02/2023 23:43

We were dreadful but Bournemouth weren’t any better in order to take advantage. Lovely moment for Eddie with the Bournemouth fans at the end, he was robbed of that with covid stuff so glad he got his thanks.

Brefugee · 12/02/2023 08:32

it's Karneval season in Germany. Two of the towns who go all out for it are Cologne and Mainz. And they both wear Karneval Shirts at this time of year.

He's gone 🎉😇 probably at least 2 games too late, at this point I'd take Ralf back or even Lampard 😂😂😂 (or anyone that can send Bednarek back out on loan- having him him is like playing with 10 men 😂)

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 12/02/2023 11:24

So it's not just twitter, it looks like Brentford's goal was offside, and Manchester's Lee Mason got it wrong - against Arsenal - again

Yes and Brighton were incorrectly denied, as were Chelsea yesterday. So a bad day for VAR.

Hold your horses, I know we don't aim high but even we expect a bit more than Lampard.
