Anyone watching the Madison, its mental

megletthesecond · 07/08/2021 09:24

I only found out the bbc studio was CGI yesterday. I have NO idea why I didn't twig sooner. In my defence I have been quite busy and tired lately.
I assumed they'd built something from wood and glass that can be dismantled and recycled afterwards.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 09:31

40 km!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 09:31

oh 50 km!

MirandaWest · 07/08/2021 09:35

I can’t understand how anyone in the Madison can keep track of what they’re doing

LavenderAskew · 07/08/2021 09:41

Anyone watching the Madison, its mental
Not really. I know it's criminal to say this but I just don't find it interesting. Possibly because I simply don't get the point, I just can't figure it out.

As for the BBC studio, I was up to the other nightfound it odd, as in couldn't work out how it was real seeing it just didn't look like a floor people could confidently walk on or sit close to. I didn't realise it was CGI until the other night when there was a fish pound (with unrealistic carp). So you're not alone @megletthesecond!! Now I'm doubting everything- are they even in Tokyo!!! 🤔

JacquelineCarlyle · 07/08/2021 09:43

No one is in Tokyo other than those who are poolside / trackside etc doing the post event interviews. All commentators of the events are in the UK also.

AndEmilyCampbellDancing · 07/08/2021 09:44

We love the fish, the littlest watches only for the fish Grin

Halsall · 07/08/2021 09:49

They're in Salford. I didn't twig until I saw one of Lutalo's Instagram posts in the first week with the green screen in the background. Shattered all my illusions at a stroke Grin

PurpleDaisies · 07/08/2021 09:51

Dan Walker had a very funny green screen wardrobe mishap.

LavenderAskew · 07/08/2021 09:55

Well!!

That resolves my confusion about how so many people managed to travel 😄. I've spent the last while in a haze of confusion as to how the studio was so well placed. I did think that they weren't in Japan, but then couldn't wrap my head around why they'd bother pretending they were that I thought they might be in Tokyo and somehow got a heap of people there in a we don't care bravado. Anyway, time to change the subject. and pretend I never brought it up

Still not getting the Madison!

Floralnomad · 07/08/2021 09:55

@LavenderAskew totally agree , I love road cycling but the velodrome leaves me cold .

Ekofisk · 07/08/2021 10:00

What upsets me though is that those photos of her striking the horse, visibly upset, will be beamed across the world and undermine the hard work of the Olympic competitors in all equestrian disciplines who uphold the highest standards of horse care and welfare.

The good news is that the German coach has been thrown out of the Games and it’s been well publicised why she’s out.

megletthesecond · 07/08/2021 10:03

Lav they're at Media City. Once I'd googled it there's a couple of articles about it.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 10:04

well done GB in the Madison

PurpleDaisies · 07/08/2021 10:05

Wow that was exciting.

MagicSummer · 07/08/2021 10:13

I've really enjoyed the Olympics this year, particularly once I had found the Discovery Channel! What made me really sad though was watching the re-run of Mo Farah in 2016 at Rio - the crowd were cheering and shouting and waving their arms around and I just thought 'wow, all those people in one place - who would have imagined how that could change for 2020/21?'. It actually brought a tear to my eye!

Mooserp · 07/08/2021 10:21

Yes! I saw the replay of Mo yesterday and was amazed at the noise of the crowd. In contrast, watching events on Eurosport with no commentary and you hear everything, feet on the track, the conversations the athletes have amongst themselves etc

Buggerthebotox · 07/08/2021 10:21

What a morning. Shock.

Loved the craziness of the Madison - it's exhausting to understand, let alone ride in. Loved the way the commentators pretty much wrote off the British pair halfway through. Grin.

Buggerthebotox · 07/08/2021 10:23

Been indulging myself with "25 Greatest Olympic Moments". SO missing Mo Farah.

I wonder what the highlights of this Olympics will turn out to be?

PurpleDaisies · 07/08/2021 10:24

I loved the interview with them after. They looked absolutely knackered. I bet they’re great fun on a night out.

PurpleDaisies · 07/08/2021 10:24

“They” being the British madison silver medalists.

misscockerspaniel · 07/08/2021 10:24

The German coach has been been thrown out of the Olympics for "appearing" to punch the horse. No wonder it looked terrified.

Kate French was brilliant.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/08/2021 10:26

That madison is crazy but I enjoyed watching it and trying to work out the strategies.

I've found track cycling surprisingly interesting this year.

AndEmilyCampbellDancing · 07/08/2021 10:38

I enjoy track as its quick, i get bored with road races. Much like the tri, I preferred the mixed short tri to the individual
