I am so excited about this. I’ve got coffee in. I’ve got snacks in.

Anyone else?

Bronze!!!!

SiSiSi · 27/07/2021 13:54

Is Simone going to get up on the podium and claim a medal ?

SiSiSi · 27/07/2021 13:55

I suppose she competed but I can't help feeling quite sorry for her teammates. They did bloody well to keep their composure.

stripedbananas · 27/07/2021 13:57

Yay we got 🥉 - I hope we get to see their performance in full at some point

stripedbananas · 27/07/2021 13:59

@SiSiSi

I hope so she must feel awful

eurochick · 27/07/2021 14:00

I'm so disappointed they didn't show the GB team! Rubbish camera feed. It's great they got a medal though, and I loved the balletic presentation from the Russians.

Germolenequeen · 27/07/2021 14:00

Bronze for GB 🥳

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/07/2021 14:01

I presume her vault counted? It was all a bit confusing!

We didn't see any of GB vault or on the bars did we?

Yes every performance counts. She does deserve a medal as she helped them qualify too. It’s a team performance.

Nothing from GB, and our bar performances must have been excellent, all scoring 14+.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/07/2021 14:07

Oh I agree she deserves a medal if her vault score counted — I just didn't know whether it changed things because she withdrew.

AndyMurraysCat · 27/07/2021 14:17

I am so disappointed we saw so very little of our Bronze Medal winning team’s performances

Halsall · 27/07/2021 14:20

They promised they were going to re-show the GB team shortly - they've just cut away to the dressage.

The problem is that the TV rights were carved up several years back and Discovery+ secured them. The deal meant they have to allow some live coverage free-to-air and they gave it to the BBC. But the condition is that they can't show more than 2 live events at any one time.

That's why they keep switching coverage constantly from one thing to another. It's massively frustrating but it's out of their control, to be fair to the BBC. Plus, as PPs say, the host coverage doesn't always focus on where we'd ideally like it to!

It must be a nightmare to schedule.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2021 14:22

Gymnastics medal ceremony is on now, hopefully replay of the bars routines that look like were decisive.

That was sweet with the Russian girls putting them on for each other.

toastofthetown · 27/07/2021 14:38

This interview is actually making me emotional. Nobody could have predicted this.

RunningFromInsanity · 27/07/2021 14:41

From the USA interview sounds like it was a mental problem not a physical injury for Simone. Interesting.

Suppose it is quite brave to admit that your head is not in the right place, better than stubbornly pushing on and making more big mistakes and ruining the medal chances for your team?

TheMadGardener · 27/07/2021 14:42

I guess the team medal justifies the selection policy - I know there was a row over one of the Downie sisters not being selected and British gymnastics said they were concentrating on a team medal rather than picking individual apparatus specialists.

(Compare this to the huge row over our badminton team selection where our men's doubles team who won bronze in Rio were controversially dropped and the two guys who were picked instead have failed to impress and got knocked out early...)

PamDenick · 27/07/2021 14:50

Such an amazing result! Disappointing coverage - gymnasts are superhuman if you ask me...

HarebrightCedarmoon · 27/07/2021 14:58

I don't understand the comments about coverage, you just pick what you want to watch, even live coverage, on iPlayer.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2021 14:59

You can’t. They only have permission to show two things at once. What’s on bbc one, bbc two or the red button is changing regularly.

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2021 15:02

The other issue (which is always a problem for the non host countries) is the bbc aren’t in control of which gymnasts were being shown during the competition so we saw virtually nothing of the British team even though they got the bronze.

OP posts:
HarebrightCedarmoon · 27/07/2021 15:05

OK, perhaps only a couple of things are live, but the whole competition is available here:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000y9zm/olympics-day-4-bbc-two-12001245

HarebrightCedarmoon · 27/07/2021 15:08

Is it different from the coverage in the past? Did the BBC used to take their own cameras, film everything and show it all live simultaneously?

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2021 15:09

You’ve totally missed the point @HarebrightCedarmoon

I was watching the team final live. It switched from bbc 2 to 1 for literally a minute or two and then on to the red button. Why was that necessary? Someone hadn’t thought that would be like for viewers wanting to keep up with the competition as it was happening,

OP posts:
HarebrightCedarmoon · 27/07/2021 15:14

They probably thought they would switch channels then to the red button.

It's hardly like watching on a commercial channel. I remember watching live F1 on ITV and they cut to ads, missing the most exciting part of the race.
