@BrozTito

Saka takes penalties for arsenal
Since when?
MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 00:46

@SupermanInk

Go to bed. You will feel better in the morning

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 00:47

@Waitrosedisaster I guess there's just something about Rashford that you don't like, that you can't quite put your finger on. 🤔 Something that makes you interpret his technique for taking a penalty as arrogance.

And I have stated plenty of times now that Southgate was been brilliant and he was in the world cup aswell.

Just because I respect the man doesn't mean agreeing with all of his choices.

It shouldn't have been on Saka.

I am proud of the team and Southgate.

Onwards and upwards.

Kipperandarthur · 12/07/2021 00:51

It’s been a blast. All credit to the whole team. They played their socks off. In all fairness the best team ultimately won, but yes in the cruel way of penalties.

Like Red I vividly remember Italia 90 and Euro 96.

But this team has huge promise and pride. We got to the final, we held Italy to full time and extra. It was looking dodgy in the second half but they didn’t concede another goal. Yes I don’t understand why Southgate didn’t put fresh legs on earlier in extra time, but you know I’m not the England Manager.

It’s disappointing but I’m also very proud of them all. I feel hugely for the penalty takers but that’s football for you. They should all be proud of themselves each and every one of them. Thank you for the entertainment England.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 00:52

@SupermanInk

Why should I justify it to you?

It was said in haste and poorly worded but I stand by it.

I'm sure Gareth will be devastated by my criticism

VerticalHorizon · 12/07/2021 00:59

We are all upset.

MrsGrealish gave her support. We have lost. There will always be reasons why we lost, but we won't always know them, only speculate on them.

The team did wonderfully well. Someone had to lose, and it was us.

We try again. One day, we will succeed again.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 01:01

@VerticalHorizon

Yep. Its nearly home. Just football flying free a bit longer.

DysonSphere · 12/07/2021 01:02
@SallySycamore

I think that's it.

Saka is only 5 years older that my own baby. He could be my baby and I feel like I wanna protect him.
I feel like that too. Silly I'm sure, but or me Saka also being very young and black knowing he'll also get some nasty racial business, on top of likely feeling gutted, makes me quite upset he was put in that position. I'm sure he'd say he wanted it anyways!

I am not in the position of having to make such choices, BUT it does seem a bit....short sighted.

Armchairing totally.

Anyways thanks all for the thread Star

I m proud of the England Team and of Southgate and his team of coaches and back room staff- they have all done a great job.

I am not proud of many England fans - as usual many have behaved badly.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 01:07

Im still wondering why it was held at Wembley.

Hooligan racist thugs all out in force tonight. Pathetic.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 01:07

@LuluJakey1

Not even England fans just horrendous abnormalities.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 01:08

I've just seen the video of the black man being thrown into the Thames 🤔

Agree with this, they need a fast lesson in sportsmanship and mutual respect before the World Cup next year. That minority of do-called fans has let England down way more than the team has.

Omg that is awful brings shame to England
Kipperandarthur · 12/07/2021 01:16

Why is someone confused that the semis and final were played at Wembley together with other games? They were always being played there.

It was the 60th anniversary with different stadiums across Europe hosting matches. All agreed years ago.

GrealishHairband · 12/07/2021 01:51

Gutted to see these threads have turned a bit.

I was heartbroken at the final whistle but I 100% back Southgate and every one of that squad, they have played immensely well, far better than we could have hoped at the beginning of the tournament. Imagine at the beginning being told we’d be going toe to toe with the Italians in the final? It would have been unthinkable.

My heart breaks for Saka, Rashford and Sancho. Young men who stepped up under enormous pressure and gave it a bloody good go. Southgate took it on the chin and said ‘it’s on me’. That’s a team. That’s a manager. And that’s something to be bloody proud of.

Pickford, Rice and Maguire played their socks off. Pickford saved TWO! Of their penalties. That’s something to be proud of. Southgate had those men huddled together within minutes telling them they were to be proud of themselves and you win together and you lose together.

I thought Italy did well to finish the match with 11 men on the pitch, I think their proclivity for rolling about on the floor like they’ve been shot meant England didn’t go for them in the midfield as much as they could have done. I think that’s where we could have done more. But we’ve learned from that. This is a young squad, they’ll come back next year bigger, better and wiser from tonight.

I’m gutted they lost. They are too. I can’t blame them for removing their medals. It must hang heavy round the neck when all you can think is ‘we lost’.

But they (and we) have so much to be proud of.

Until next time.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 02:08

@GrealishHairband

Yep. I will think back fondly and I hope they knew how incredible they have been. They brought joy to a nation when it's been in short supply.

All those videos on YouTube of the team have fun together I'll probably watch again because all of them are a joy to watch.

It was a privilege to be on the journey with them.

Pigeonpair1 · 12/07/2021 02:09

I was there and although it wasn’t the result we wanted it was truly one of the best experiences of my life!

Lampzade · 12/07/2021 02:09

@SupermanInk

I may have made a comment about Southgates decision making but at least I didnt personal about it. Unlike you.

You said you will never forgive Southgate. This is a man who has spoken publicly about the affect the negativity and his own feelings about what happened in 96 has had on his mental health, his parents etc. He has now taken England to the finals of Euro 2020, has shown dignity and professionalism at every step, but all you can say is, you’ll never forgive him. Shame on you. He doesn’t deserve that.

I agree
FootballisgoingtoRome · 12/07/2021 02:15

Let’s hope they catch all these idiots that were fighting at Wembley shouldn’t be hard to identify them
