Can't see a thread on this ....

Any rugby lovers here? Not many of my girlfriends share my love of rugby.

France/Argentina - cracking close match.

Japan/Russia - glad the home team won.

Australia/Fiji fantastic first half.

And now the All Blacks v Springboks - can't wait ....

Doesn't look like there was much contingency planning at all!

I don't think the Japanese will be happy to get through this way but I do get that they have to be fair and on paper Italy are in the same boat.

How very Scottish though to go out because of the weather.

MrsJoshNavidi · 10/10/2019 09:41

Guardian is saying thx decision re the Scotland match will be taken Sunday morning. So v early Sunday our time.

It's pants, isn't it. I feel sorry for Italy too even though they'd obviously have lost anyway.

beanaseireann · 10/10/2019 09:42

Rugby in Japanese typhoon season. Hmm
Athletics in Doha Hmm
Soccer World Cup in Quatar Hmm

Wtaf !!!

Horehound · 10/10/2019 09:48

I'm gona feel hopeful about the scotland game.
Don't they have indoor arenas?

massistar · 10/10/2019 09:59

Yep fingers crossed @Horehound !

AlunWynsKnee · 10/10/2019 10:31

I guess it depends on how much damage there is. If power is out, the stadium is damaged or the area flooded then they can't do it. Hopefully people will be safe but it could be a big ask to get the Japanese team to play if it is bad.

MrsJoshNavidi · 10/10/2019 16:58

Don't they have indoor arenas
Not in the right places.

Countries without the right climate should accept they can't stage world sporting events.

Horehound · 10/10/2019 17:48

If tha game is cancelled (under tournament rules the result would be set at 0-0 and both teams awarded two points) Japan would qualify for the Quarter-Finals, with Scotland’s progress dependent on the result of the Ireland v Samoa game, still scheduled to be played on Saturday.

Some reports this morning that Scotland are talking about legal action to force the match to go ahead. Possibly on Monday.

TanteRose · 11/10/2019 10:34

I'm pretty sure they can go ahead with the match on Sunday - once the typhoon passes over land, it speeds up Smile

This is what it looks like right now Shock

Fingers crossed @TanteRose ! Japan coach was a bit off with his comments this morning I thought but clear they want it to go ahead with the match as much as the Scots do!

massistar · 11/10/2019 11:14

That typhoon looks pretty damn scary btw!

minmooch · 11/10/2019 13:12

Keep safe @TanteRose

beanaseireann · 11/10/2019 14:33

Is this the same Scotland who said Ireland should suck it up when the typhoon looked like it woukd impact the Ireland v Samoa game ? Smile

TanteRose · 11/10/2019 14:34

Thanks, fellow rugby-fans of Mumsnet!
Will hunker down tomorrow

Woodman03 · 11/10/2019 14:42

Scotland can’t hide behind just the weather, if you want to do well at a tournament you can’t play as appallingly as they did against Ireland.

AlunWynsKnee · 11/10/2019 16:02

I bow to your superior knowledge of typhoon behaviour @TanteRose :) Batten down those hatches and stay safe.

massistar · 11/10/2019 17:19

How are Scotland hiding behind the weather when they want the match to go ahead exactly? That doesn't even make sense.

I'm pretty sure if it was England they'd be fighting tooth and nail to get the match played.

Woodman03 · 11/10/2019 18:06

Yes they want the match to go ahead and hopefully it does, but if it doesn’t they can’t just blame the weather they were appalling against Ireland not even a bonus point.

Horehound · 11/10/2019 18:58

@Woodman03 you seem quite hostile towards the Scottish team :s Did you miss the Russia game? Plus Ireland are ranked #4 and Scotland ranked #9.
I don't think they ever use excuses for poor play, do they? Have you an example?

MrsJoshNavidi · 11/10/2019 19:29

Some reports this morning that Scotland are talking about legal action to force the match to go ahead. Possibly on Monday.

Much as I hate to admit it, Eddie Jones and Michael Cheika are right: Scotland knew the rules. They should have won more matches earlier on if they wanted to be guaranteed a place in the next round.

Woodman03 · 11/10/2019 20:56

Horehound, the Scottish players themselves were embarrassed by they lack of performance against the Irish, they didn’t turn up they didn’t play well.
If you want to progress and do well in any tournament in any sport you have to perform.
As I have previously said I want to see the Japan v Scotland game as Scotland are capable of playing a very unstructured game which I believe the Japanese team will find much harder to cope with. But that will depend on the roof been open or closed, if open and still windy you would expect a really tight pick and go game which would play to Japan’s strengths more than Scotland.

Come on Japan you can do it!!

massistar · 11/10/2019 22:44

I think Woodman has fundamentally misunderstood how pool competitions work. It's not a knockout competition. It's not one bad game and you're done. Yes Scotland were shit in the Ireland game but no one expected them to win it. And Ireland lost to Japan. So what they're shit and should go out?

AlunWynsKnee · 12/10/2019 00:33

The pool was thrown wide open when Ireland lost to Japan. It should have been Ireland to top the group with Scotland second. It's become a 3 way contest with the last match being the decider. Ireland losing is the catalyst to this, Scotland haven't done anything unexpected so far.

Horehound · 12/10/2019 02:29

If you want to progress and do well in any tournament in any sport you have to perform
I'm so glad woodman03 turned up to tell me that Hmm
If you know the Scottish players are embarrassed why do you then think they will start blaming the weather? They are very upfront about their performances as you've just admitted.
Go and take your hostility away somewhere else. If you read the rest of this thread it's actually very friendly and supportive regardless of the teams we are supporting except for yours
