In BB's apparent absence.....

As in previous years, footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  4. A thought on this season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/any leagues world wide/fallout from the World Cup.)

It's not cancelled at the moment, only suspended until 3rd April.

An emergency Premier League meeting is set to take place on Thursday when football chiefs will decide what happens next.
If the season is not completed then these are some of the possible scenarios:
Give the title to Liverpool and have no relegations this season. Next season there would be 22 teams in the Premier League - with West Brom and Leeds promoted from the Championship
The season is declared null and void and next season begins with the same 20 teams - unlikely, especially because Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the table and have all but won their first title for 30 years
The table as it stands now is the final table - unlikely, because it would be unfair to relegate Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich after only 29 matchdays

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/03/2020 15:36

And Aston Villa have played a game less so be unfair to relegate them

WhiteHartLane · 14/03/2020 15:42

Scenario 1 makes the most sense, however I worry for the clubs in the lower leagues if the season cannot be finished. The pundits on Football Focus have suggested today that the Premier League clubs help out. Obviously they are not obliged to do so but the EPL are likely to lose several clubs if they don't. Bolton and Southend are hanging on by a thread as it is.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/03/2020 16:02

1 would work but who do you decide is in Europe? As it stands but then Sheffield also a game in hand. Guess that's a whole other matter

DuncinToffee · 16/03/2020 13:59

Leyton Orient is organising a Fifa 20 tournament, started off with 64 teams, they have now expanded to 128. Good fun reading their twitter account. Grin

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 16/03/2020 21:57

Haha!! I loved Southampton and Man City noughts and crosses game at the weekend. Ended in a draw though

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2020 14:42

Euro 2020 postponed until next summer UEFA confirms

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2020 14:49

Everton showed the 1984 derby on youtube last night, DS really enjoyed watching it and he managed not to google the final score beforehand Grin

The nought and crosses was really funny as was connect four between Hull and Leverkusen. Everton has pulled out of the Leyton Orient thing because it is sponsored by the s*n.

dennisdonut · 17/03/2020 16:01

Tranmere also pulled out due the sponsorship. Missing any sport atm

From the BBC:

English football will be suspended until at least 30 April because of the continued spread of coronavirus.

All games in England's Premier League, EFL, Women's Super League and Women's Championship, and all fixtures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are currently postponed.

The Football Association has also agreed that the current season can be "extended indefinitely" beyond the original end date of 1 June.

DuncinToffee · 30/03/2020 16:47

Anyone seen this 'idea'
www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/coronavirus-premier-league-isolated-camps-remaining-fixtures-dates-suspension-latest-a9432961.html

Money over fans, who would have thought it.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/04/2020 11:57

I know it was a proposed idea but that's a really dumb idea from someone..let's mix everyone together!! Makes sense...

BelfastBloke · 20/05/2020 19:02

Did anyone watch German football resume last weekend?

Should we be putting our new German teams in our intro's to the thread?

1. Which team you support. Borussia Dortmund, I guess?

2. Which team(s) you loathe.

Am I now supposed to loathe Schalke and Bayern Munich? Because I don't. Bayern Munich is from Bavaria, and I quite like the look of Bavarian lederhosen. (Yes, I have given up attempting to attract the opposite sex).

3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team. Threats and bribery, as always.

4. A thought on this season. I'd like to know what Arsenal plans to do with my season ticket money.

I was listening to the most famous Arsenal podcast today on my run, and they were talking about how dangerous it used to be considered to meet someone you'd met online; but football somehow made it OK to meet someone off the internet. I reckon Pan from Mumsnet was the first person I met off the internet - we went to a match together.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2020 13:21

We kind of watched the Dortmund - Schalke match but got a bit bored and just couldn't get i to it. Dortmund simply outclassed Schalke and without fans it was just far too one sided.

DS decided to try and support Dortmund because they play good football and win often he still has a Bayern shirt from when Robben played there, I guess I'll go for Schalke because Jonjoe Kenny is on loan there.

Threats and bribery do not work any more on a 18 and 15 year old

A thought on this season, I can't be bothered with it any more, happy to start from fresh in September. I know Everton has given ST holders the choice of getting a refund, donating to EiTC or using it for next season.
Good thing is we are getting rid of SportPesa as sponsor and got a good kit deal with Hummel.

I miss football but not enough to start watching German Geisterspielen.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/05/2020 13:38

I'm quite happy watching old games back..knowing the score lol. Munich rewatch was nice!

As for this season...so many complications. I guess it's likely to finish which makes sense but same time all takes is one case. Then the other side is the money loss is huge.
Reading about league one and two sides and actions they're having to take to save their clubs is sad.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2020 14:07

Haha I agree with watching back old games. We also watched the Howard Kendall documentary 'Howard's Way', what an Everton team that was 💙

I agree with you on the lower leagues, very worrying. Something in the set up is very rotten and has been for a long time. (Bury for example)
On the plus side our local national league team has avoided relegation.
I am also wondering what is going to happen with the FAWSL

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2020 14:23

I have just read about Nigel Clough standing down as Burton Albion's manager to save a large amount of jobs at the club, wow that is a sad state of affairs Angry
All credit to Clough.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 28/05/2020 15:36

Premier league to start 17th June..games in hand being played first then rest the weekend.

Guess in theory..

Oblomov20 · 30/05/2020 08:37

Can't wait for PL to start.
And what about on a local level? Why they can't get together with their manager for a training session, if no match, just drills, 2m apart, adhering to social distancing, I don't understand.

Ds's have been watching Bundesliga, but the 2 recent games have been a bit dull.

BelfastBloke · 31/05/2020 19:43

England star Jadon Sancho just scored a hat trick today when playing for Borussia Dortmund. He got a yellow card for removing his shirt and revealing a 'Justice for George Floyd' slogan; protesting the racist cops who killed GF. Good on him.

Incidentally, the murderer's wife has filed for divorce, and the cop has been charged with murder.

BelfastBloke · 06/06/2020 08:54

First day back for the PL is Man Citeh vs Arsenal.

If Arsenal beat Citeh, does that mean Liverpool win the Prem without playing a game; or do they still have to win one more?

Well it is back and it seems that VAR is 'working' as usual....

not watching the game, just going on twitter comments

AKissAndASmile · 17/06/2020 18:48

As if that could ever happen

DuncinToffee · 17/06/2020 18:53

Oooh another controversy, goal line technology not working and VAR neither it seems...
