Since the last one was about last season, here's a shiny new one! I haven't even seen quali yet, I've been so busy today Blush Who's getting up in the middle of the night?

OP posts:
EauRouge · 28/07/2014 13:22

Haha, that does look like him Grin

I was yelling at Rosberg: 'Why isn't he letting me past?'. Because you're racing each other, genius!

I shout at the TV a lot. 5yo DD1 joins in, shouting 'Come on, Jenson!' at random cars.

MassaAttack · 28/07/2014 16:32

Bless :)

I'm fairly local to Jenson's home town, so we went to see him turn on the Christmas lights. He drove an F1 car up and down the high street - did doughnuts and everything. It was ace :)

500smiles · 28/07/2014 17:25

True MassaAttack, he does have the most enormous Grin

I must go find my fantasy F1 again, I keep forgetting about it

EauRouge · 28/07/2014 17:55

I had a look at it today. Frettchen is beating me Shock Here's the link.

OP posts:
500smiles · 28/07/2014 18:36

Thanks Eau - IIRC I was last, last time I looked Grin

EauRouge · 28/07/2014 18:39

Totally kicking myself that I picked Button and not Ricciardo. Oh well.

OP posts:
500smiles · 28/07/2014 18:42

Oooh I'm not last Grin

500smiles · 28/07/2014 18:43

To be fair, Button has potential to be good in a half decent car, even though he hasn't got the killer instinct of Mr Grin

EauRouge · 19/08/2014 14:56

The August break always seems to go on for aaaaages. Can't wait to see some racing again, and obviously Spa is my favourite.

Has everyone seen the news today about Max Verstappen? I remember all the pundits going on about Jenson being too young and he was 20, wasn't he? Mind you, I'm still shocked about Jos Verstappen having a teenage son Grin

OP posts:
EauRouge · 24/08/2014 15:26

Well.

Well...

What do you think will be said at the Merc meeting later? I hope they meet in a room where the furniture is bolted to the floor... Obviously it was a racing incident, but could Rosberg have left it until it was an easier pass?

Well done to Grin, another victory. And another great drive from Bottas. Who was that fella in 4th, haven't seen him for years.

OP posts:
magimedi · 24/08/2014 17:51

Love the Grin for Daniel - great guy.

Have just seen that Rosberg said he did it on purpose:

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/28921431

I was surprised that it was not investigated by the stewards at the time.

EauRouge · 24/08/2014 17:58

I've just read that article too. I'll be interested to hear what Nico actually said, as Hamilton says that Nico 'basically' said he did it on purpose- so it's not a direct quote, but Lewis's interpretation. I might have to watch the video a few more billion times before I decide. Is there a way to do frame-by-frame or slow motion on youtube?

I think it's safe to say that Nico is off Lewis's Christmas card list. What a race though, eh.

OP posts:
magimedi · 24/08/2014 18:12

Great race - and you are right, Lewis could just be shit stirring!

Spa is quite near the top of my list or 'races I'd like to go to'.

In fact DH has a BIG birthday next year & I was wondering about going to Spa as his present - have you been & any tips on best way of doing it?

We are old gimmers, DH will be 70 - I am a bit of a child bride Grin - so want a bit of luxury. Camping days are deffo over! Have had a look at some of the packages available but not sure what to go for.

GrouchyKiwi · 24/08/2014 18:17

Apparently Merc has confirmed that Lewis' take on Nico's words is correct. Blimey.

DH is wondering, in light of this, whether the stewards/FIA can retroactively apply a penalty to Nico - or worse, I guess.

Nice to see Ricciardo take another win, although am sad that Lewis' race was ruined. Really losing all respect for Nico.

Looks like Abu Double is going to have a big impact.

magimedi · 24/08/2014 18:21

I guess Merc could sack Rosberg!

But I bet they don't!

Am not a fan of this Abu Double (like that phrase) nonsense.

EauRouge · 24/08/2014 18:38

Hmm, I wonder when Nico will say something? He's been very quiet. I wonder if he's trying to figure out what to say to make himself look less of a bastard if he did do it on purpose. Merc have already renewed his contract a couple of weeks ago but I'm sure there's a get-out clause somewhere if they want to ditch him. I doubt they will both be there next season after all this.

Magi, we went to Spa in 2007, it was amazing. We sat in the gold stand at the top of Eau Rouge but you can get an almost as good view at the silver stand a little further down. But no roof when it (inevitably) rains. Doubtful that you'll get a hotel in Francorchamps or Spa, we stayed at a hotel in Aachen just over the border and it was only a 45 min drive. Traffic wasn't too bad until the motorway turn-off to the track. There was maybe a 20 min walk to our seats. It's a seriously steep climb to the gold stand at the top of Eau Rouge so if you don't want a massive trek/mountain climb then you might be better off looking at La Source or even the main straight. I'd prob go for La Source though, you can see all the way to Eau Rouge then.

EauRouge · 24/08/2014 21:08

Hmm, Toto says that Rosberg was misinterpreted.

Lewis is still under contract until the end of 2015. Nico has just signed until the end of 2016 (I think?). So what happens now?

OP posts:
magimedi · 24/08/2014 21:18

Quite honestly, if Merc wanted this all cleared up they would tell Nico that their test driver (who is ???) would be doing the next race & Nico would have to sit it out.

Flowers for that Spa info, EauRouge - have started to sound out DH & I don't think he's as keen as I thought he would be - we'll see!

OberonTheHopeful · 24/08/2014 21:27

An amazing race, but I really feel for Lewis, he's had so much bad luck this season. Loved seeing Daniel doing so well again, and the Williams team also! I still say that Valteri is one to watch :)

I see (BBC News) that Toto Wolff has said that Mercedes may take internal disciplinary action against Rosberg, and FIA have said they mat re-open the case if there is new evidence even though the result has been declared.

Judging by the booing when he was on the podium a number of spectators at the circuit didn't really approve of Rosberg's driving.

OberonTheHopeful · 24/08/2014 21:36

I'm just catching up on the coverage (was out at a friend's birthday picnic this afternoon Grin ), and I've just heard Toto say that it's "a decisive moment for the situation between the two of them, and for the team". Blimey, he's not normally so outspoken.

MrsJamin · 24/08/2014 21:39

magimedi - DH was there this weekend, its his second time and he utterly loves it there. They camp and it seems like a lot of fun mixing with all the other fans from different countries.

Poor Lewis, again bad luck. This season should be his. I didn't think his relationship with Nico R could get any worse until today, I was wrong!

EauRouge · 25/08/2014 09:18

Summary of Nico v Lewis. While I love a good rivalry, I wouldn't want to be working for Mercedes right now. I think there will be many more grey hairs there by the end of the season.

I think there were a lot of Brits at Spa which might explain the booing. When I was there it was during the Alonso/Hamilton rivalry and Alonso was booed.

OP posts:
OberonTheHopeful · 25/08/2014 18:31

I'm not sure what the way forward for Mercedes might be really. Time will help, but right now it looks unlikely that their two drivers will be able to settle their differences.

EauRouge · 25/08/2014 21:35
Well, not really. But he doesn't have a black eye or anything.

And for those of you that don't speak German Grin (must learn to preview messages and check links...)
