BelfastBloke's Rolling Footie Thread 2013-14 Season

The rolling Football thread for Season '13-14 might as well start off in the traditional way with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread all those seasons ago. But with the new tradition of leaving the musty changing room of Dadsnet...
We've been top heavy with premiership stuff but it's really for any footie played on the planet and beyond.

Footie fans please sign in with

1.Which team you support.
2.Which team(s) you loathe.
3.How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.

  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/all leagues world wide.)

I really hope Moyes has a cunning plan. This includes giving everyone else a false sense of security...

Horsemad · 05/12/2013 18:23

Moyes will probably be sacked before the end of the season if things don't improve soon!

BelfastBloke · 06/12/2013 07:41

How about Moyes being given time to create his own squad? Which by definition would take longer than one or two transfer windows?

Champions League qualification would be a successful season for a club going through such a seismic change.

Horsemad · 06/12/2013 21:27

As sensible as your suggestion is BB, it probably won't happen - it's a shame as I think Moyes is a very good manager.

Pan · 07/12/2013 12:10

It is a very sane obs. BB. As we know though the Prem is an unforgiving place, and more so at a club where we are swimming in previously plundered loot!
But, one loss in 13 games and without vP and Carrick isn't panic stations is it? Having to play Lord Giggs of Everything twice in a week is a bit of an indictment. The trouble atm though is that Arse and City are on fire with not much sign of them being doused, and Liverpool have a crackerjack of a forward line ( to continue the combustion analogy). They don't have much reason to look to the January window.
Be curious to see how European duties affect us all. City are looking horribly good, and with Kompany back and no loss of Toure to African competition this year they must feel v positive.

Any World Cup thoughts? Starts with 90 mins of "I'm a professional footballer..get me out of here!". Is it too much to hope for draws against Italy and Uruguay and a victory against Costa Rica. That would qualify them surely?
And...if for the first two games England are to line up in the Roman Armadillo formation, Rio F would do well there. Not too much running around but v good at defensive organisation.

The World Cup, well, at least England won't be going out on penalties.

I'll been watching the second round at the same place England will be.
At home.

BelfastBloke · 07/12/2013 17:27

I'm fascinated to see that England's tropical game kicks off at 2am in the morning. That'll reduce heat. Does that reduce humidity?

Pan · 07/12/2013 17:32

BB, the way I read it, it means moving kick off from evening to earlier in the day (so for tv we can all watch them sweating their bollocks off) - the heat will be greater but no idea the effect on humidity.

The first England game has been changed to 11pm Fri 14th June.

BelfastBloke · 11/12/2013 07:35

Crazy game last night. Man Citeh were 2-0 down and came back to 2-3 with 20 min to go.

All they needed was 2-4 to top the group. But they mistakenly thought they needed 2-5.

So they took off a striker and didn't replace him with players who could have scored the vital final goal.

Horsemad · 11/12/2013 08:54

Numpties!

Pan · 14/12/2013 11:19

Don;t Citeh have form for that sort of thing? I recall something similar a few seasons ago.
Significant weekend coming up? In La Liga 1 Cov are 'home' to Crewe and would hope for 3 pts., and Wolves entertain the Dons.

OP posts:
Pan · 14/12/2013 14:43

well that was never going to be a nil-niler was it?

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 14/12/2013 17:15

Excellent game. Citeh were better and deserved to win. But it would have been interesting to see where we were if Bendtner's legitimate goal were to stand, and the penalty to Arsenal be given, and some of those wrong offside decisions …

I'd be interested to know if a neutral would agree that the refereeing decisions only went one club's way. Because I am not trying to say that we deserved to win.

Horsemad · 14/12/2013 18:58

What a score for City!

80sbabe · 15/12/2013 01:00

BB I think you are being very benevolent in your comments, obviously as a Utd fan it goes against the grain for me to ever say that Citeh deserve to win a game - heaven forbid Grin
To me they will always remain a team that are all fur coat and no knickers Grin

LuisCarol · 15/12/2013 01:35

Bendtner was offside, Giroud wasn't. It wasn't a penalty. I'm only watching MOTD and we all know how bad they are at showing reality, but I didn't see any bias tbh. City are incredible at home this year. Being splattered by them is not necessarily due to the ref.

Pan · 19/12/2013 20:07

BB have PM'd you.

On the Citeh-at-home thing, these things usually have a short shelf life. It only takes one challenge and the bubble gets bursted. Teams turn up expecting to be rolled over, then one day it doesn't happen. can't come too soon in my hope . Smile

OP posts:
Pan · 21/12/2013 14:43

Damn. SAF spends 26 yrs knocking Liverpool off their perch and ensuring they stay off. He turns his back for 6 months and they creep back on it. Pesky scousers.Smile

Merry Christmas to ALL footy fans, far and wide.

God bless us every one. Do good deeds.

I'm taking my Spurs mate to Arsenal v Chelsea tomorrow.

DanFmDorking · 22/12/2013 11:05

BB - I've got an 'orible feeling about tomorrows game.
Not looking forward to it at all.
