The rolling Football thread for Season '13-14 might as well start off in the traditional way with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread all those seasons ago. But with the new tradition of leaving the musty changing room of Dadsnet...
We've been top heavy with premiership stuff but it's really for any footie played on the planet and beyond.

Footie fans please sign in with

No, you didn't, but I'll add that to my spreadsheet.Grin

Did I tell you that an uncle of mine was the ticket officer manager at Man Utd? He was there for years, retired fairly recently and kept offering me tickets for games but I declined all of them. Because I didn't think it was fair.
WTAF? Grin

Pan, are you MAD???!

There is no point having 'Contacts' if you don't ask for their assistance occasionally.

I've got a tenuous link to contacts for tickets at LFC, via a relly, but haven't yet asked them for help! Grin

Pan · 16/11/2013 21:08

I know, I know. He offered me two tickets for the Euro semi against Barca when Scholes scored a screamer to put us through to the final. That was a slight regret..Smile

We are top of the league, say we are top of the league! high five Paleodad* * Grin

Horsemad · 16/11/2013 21:10

Grin @ happy Wolves fans!

Pan · 16/11/2013 21:16

On that Barca game, at 7.30am the following morning a colleague of mine who lives near him bumped into Scholesey in the local shop buying some milk. No frills for Scholes. Score a multi-pound winning goal, then it's up to get milk for the kids breakfasts.

OP posts:
Horsemad · 16/11/2013 21:21

Yes, apparently Scholes is very down to earth and 'normal'. I like that.

Pan · 16/11/2013 21:27

And yet, Xavi/Iniesta say that they were very pleased that he never went to Barca. Because, they said, someone would have had to make way for him.
He came down to Stalybridge Celtic, non-league near me a few weeks ago for a training session. It drew a bigger crowd than for a home game.

I can imagine. Smile

So, my beloved Bradford are at home live on sky sports 1 at 3.30pm this aft. We've dropped out of the play-off zone and had a drop in form. We've not won in six games and we're really missing our best defender Andrew Davies (our other defenders frequently are seen looking completely bewildered to find themselves in the middle of a football game). But after last week's embarrassing shenanigans at Rotherham hopefully our team has had a kick up the arse and will put on a good display, whatever the result.

PS - Wolves are totally in another league (no pun intended). They're the best team I have seen at Valley Parade this season and the only team who have beaten us without the help of a referee!

claretandamberforever · 17/11/2013 13:13

1.Which team you support.
Bradford City FC, aka The Bantams

2.Which team(s) you loathe.
Surprisingly not keen on Leeds United but they don't inspire the rage in me as much as Rotherham are this Year. 'orrible specimen of a manager they've got.

3.How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
Eldest son was an Arsenal fan until the age of 10 (now 17), when we got season tickets to go and watch Bradford City (mine was cheap, his was free) and we fell for them completely hook, line and sinker and we're both claret and amber through and through. DS2 (now 10) is a bit of a fairweather fan. He has a season ticket as it's still free for him, but I don't think I'd pay for one for him next year though.

4. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/League Cup/all leagues world wide.
Errr you mean there are other teams out there other than Bradford City? #confused

Pan · 17/11/2013 13:27

Grin claret, I've ordered a close game with Sky Blues just edging it by the odd goal in 3.

Am going to out with dd most of the day so kick off for us will be about 6pm. Good luck!

claretandamberforever · 17/11/2013 13:35

I think Coventry will win 3-0. I'd even put 10p on it....

Pan · 17/11/2013 13:37

I'll take your 10p off you.Smile

OP posts:
claretandamberforever · 17/11/2013 18:37

Oooooft I'll take that result! Beyond thrilled with a point from Coventry who are flying this season. Mind you, when they put 2 goals past us in 7 minutes (the first being 65 seconds) I did think my nightmare of humiliation on live TV was about to come true. And then to equalise with a last minute penalty - well. I hope the TV audience non-fans enjoyed the game as much as I did.

Pan - are you one of the hardy souls who goes to watch your home games at Northampton?

Pan · 17/11/2013 20:46

Well that was err....um.....pinball footie! CC were v lucky to keep 11 players on the pitch for most of the game. Kevin Friend was awful.

No I'm not hardy at all. It's a matey of mine who is the Sky Blue, though I've sort of adopted them, as a pity club facing the 10pt deduction with no home ground for the season.

OP posts:
claretandamberforever · 17/11/2013 21:03

There but for the grace of god go I. Bradford City were the ones to make administration fashionable! Not once, but twice. A canny chairman and a cup run have left us a bit healthier though.

Kevin Friend was the ref who did the league cup final where he sent our keeper off (otherwise we'd have no doubt mullered the Swans) laughs head off

BelfastBloke · 19/11/2013 22:16

Tremendous night of World Cup Qualifiers. France got the three goals they needed against Ukraine.

Greasy Ronaldo is incredible.

Vikki88 · 19/11/2013 22:40

Went to Molineux tonight - we were rubbish & I can't feel my feet anymore! Left before we scored our goal too which was the icing on the cake.

Quite predictable that England would lose to Germany!

Horsemad · 19/11/2013 23:00

That always surprises me that people leave before the final whistle - whenever I go to a match I stay until the end.

Have you thawed out now Vikki?

Paleodad · 19/11/2013 23:49

Sounded shit vikki, don't blame you (and the other 4 people in the ground!) for leaving early.
hope they're better on sat when me and DS are going up.

BelfastBloke · 20/11/2013 07:34

Where does the name Molineux come from?

Horsemad · 20/11/2013 09:49

A quick Google suggests it was the surname of the chap who originally owned the land that the stadium was built on.
