Are we having a spin on Le Tour this year? They are half way across Corsica already, and Cav and Froome are settled in. Cav's looking for a stage win.

btw it's on Eurosport live and ITV will have highlights later on (and poss some live as well?)
If anyone is a bit confused by it all there is usually some well-informed soul around to help out.

Ooh good, I was hoping someone would start a Tour de France thread.

Gives me a chance to try out my new nickname .

I'll be watching later on Sky+ when DH comes home. Got Wimbledon on at the moment Tennis.

I think Froome has a great chance, he's in brilliant form. Go Cav for the yellow jersey today!

Panonabike · 29/06/2013 13:51

Good idea.

Abzs · 29/06/2013 13:58

Watching live on itv4. Currently rather enamoured of Lemoine's green socks (breakaway, Sojasun).

prettybird · 29/06/2013 13:58

It's on ITV4 live all day today. Smile

that's the next 3 weeks spare time accounted for

You can subscribe to Eurosport for £2.99/month (and you only need to pay for it in the months there's something you want to watch) so that you can watch it on-line.

'Twas great when I booked a week in Greece last year which coincided with the last week of Le Tour. Grin

Update - peleton going really slooow, all having a chat with each other. Commentators are v bored.Grin

Switched to ITV4. I want the accordian music as a ring tone.

I have even forked out 3.99 so can watch it on iPad. I am enjoying Paul and Phil doing their usual eke out of saying not much til something Happens.

Want cav to win today and go into yellow -cant believe with all his stages hasn't worn yellow.

Panonabike · 29/06/2013 14:16

Jens Voight - good one to follow on twitter - tweets about his kids and the dog.

Oh I'm so pleased I found this thread - I love watching the tour highlights in an evening! Go Go Cav!!

Panonabike · 29/06/2013 16:19

Sacre bleu!!

Abzs · 29/06/2013 16:19

Well. That was different!

Gigondas · 29/06/2013 16:20

Turned into a bit of A mess with bus debacle, crashes and confusion plus no yellow jersey for cav Sad. Nice for kittel but its a bit of a hollow victory as no favourites to contest it.

prettybird · 29/06/2013 16:28

Wonder whether the confusion actually contributed to the crash. The degree of concentration required to cycle in those bunches must surely have been compromised with the conflicting instructions coming through on the race radio.

DuchessOfAvon · 29/06/2013 16:34

Yikes - what a mess. Looking forward to the Orica tweets!

Griepel looked like thunder when he came over the line.

I am twitchy about the Tour this year - no obvious fave to support. It'll be odd to watch it without a front-runner to cheer for - but this is an extraordinary start.

I also want to follow the Giro Rosa which starts tomorrow - the women just get ignored.

Gigondas · 29/06/2013 16:47

Orica not answering tweets as so many enquiries.

The change of finish will have played a part. Poor geraint Thomas hurt in crash.

Panonabike · 29/06/2013 17:38

Just extraordinnaire! Yes the info re finish change would have been astonishing to the peleton, at least those who heard of it. And bunching so much at speed as no-one was putting their foot down too.

OP posts:
prettybird · 29/06/2013 17:54

Interesting that Kittel said he hadn't heard that the finish had been changed and back again

So you'll have had some people in the peloton ramping up 'cos they thought the finish was at 3k, some people who'd ramped up but, having heard it had been changed back again, ramping back down, and others who were still racing to the original race plan ConfusedHmm. No wonder there was a crash.

Spoilt what should have been a great day's racing. And what a disappointment for Cav - he should at least have had the opportunity to race for the yellow jersey which he could uniquely have worn with the current British champion and former world champion stripes.

I watched him around Glasgow last Sunday and saw him whoosh past Stannard at the 100m mark to win. Smile

YellowJersey · 30/06/2013 00:18

I've just caught up with today's events - what a mess!

Agree the change of finish must have contributed to the crash, it would have been very confusing for the riders. The organisers should have made their minds up about where to finish the race & stuck to it.

Gutted for Cav that he didn't get to contest the sprint with the other main green jersey rivals.

Panonabike · 30/06/2013 09:11

I know! Loved the look on the coach driver's face and his head sinking into his cradled hands. In Cycle New yesterday Cav was blaming the finish changes.

Mais, aujourd'hui c'est Le Etape Deux. Smile, and into the hills. I was reading/heard that in stage 18 they have to go up Alp d'Huez twice. That will hurt.
