Are we having a spin on Le Tour this year? They are half way across Corsica already, and Cav and Froome are settled in. Cav's looking for a stage win.

Ah well, he had a bit of a silly accident playing rugby and broke his head. He's a poorly boy at the moment with pneumonia but there is always hope that we will get some of him back. Just hard when he was my TdF buddy and I can't text him all the time and discuss the alarming moment when I realised I didn't hate old bum face (Cadel Evans) any more. Still it does give me something to chat to him about when we visit him in hospital. Anyway, now I have you lot to chat to as well, so that makes life a lot better Grin. I was very happy for Orica Greenedge today, I'm really enjoying a start to the tour where different people get to shine.

Tyler Hamilton's book was an interesting read, and it was fascinating to get the real inside story from someone who rode with Armstrong. I read Armstrong's book It's Not About The Bike years ago & might read it again now as a work of fiction! I have Brad's book waiting to be read, & it sounds like David Millar's is worth a read too.

Paul Kimmage's book Rough Ride is a interesting account of the struggles of a domestique trying to make it in the peleton. He had a tough time & only lasted a few years.

I can't get ITV4 here so it's Eurosport for us for the live coverage. Quite like the Carlton Kirby/Sean Kelly pairing. We get the Liggett/Sherwen highlights programme on Irish TV in the evening.

Great win for Orica GreenEdge today, and Team Sky are getting nicely into position. Hopefully Cav will get his chance at a stage win tomorrow.

Poor Cav's not well. He was interviewed earlier and said he was dosed up on anti-biotics and starting to feel better now. As they said on ITV4 though he never normally fares well at the start of a tour anyway. Fingers crossed he gets some wins now, I was surprised Sagan was taken on the line yesterday.

Loved it when Phil says to David M "so the racing starts tomorrow" and DM shot him a look and said "the racing started on Saturday."

yy - i LOVE David M. He is so dry.

I think it was Ned Boulting doing the interview though - Paul & Phil are both ex-riders (although Phil only at amateur level I think) and I doubt would have dismissed three days racing so lightly!!

I am very fond of Ned as well, I must add. He always looks shattered by the end of the Tour.

The French have been retro testing samples from 1998 and have decided to publish the list of all the riders who tested positive. They want to do this during the last week of the Tour Confused.

Still, I suppose it's good that they have to go back 15 years to get a proper doping scandal. While not problem free, cycling has come such a long way since then.

On a brighter note, looking forward to today's stage, through one of my favourite parts of France. My relatives, who live there, were complaining about being disrupted by the Tour virtually every year - I was very Envy.

The stage that we saw followed a similar route to today's stage - we saw it near Draguignan. As I sit here, looking out at a cool, grey day in Scotland (albeit not a rainy one, which counts as a summer day here), I am very Envy of everyone basking in the sun in the South of France, regardless of whether they are going to see the Tour go past or not.

There's so many choices to be had for favorites. Cav for the green obv., want to see Millar do well, and the man that is G, and am liking Chavenel as well. Froome? He's probably suffering from the fact that he isn't Wiggo in my heart. Which isn't his fault...
And am really liking Orica-GreenEdge for no better reasons than for the embarassment of Stage One, AND lostinwales' Call Me Maybe video.

I love that video Grin and they seem like a very likeable bunch, plus the bus thing was fantastic just for the drivers expression.

About to be a sprint finish, I'm all nervous for Cav and hoping there isn't a crash.

Is everyone waiting until later to watch the highlights show? I don't want to start posting about the result if I'm going to spoil things for everyone

Froome is just so hard to like though isn't he Panon? He's just a bit 'meh' although I am happy to change that opinion if he starts winning the tour Wink that's not meh at all.

I'm enjoying watching today SDTG because in three weeks time we will hopefully be down there. Although to be fair it hasn't rained all day in Wales today, there may even have been some sun.

Intending to watch highlights tonight so will be hiding this until that's done!

I watch highlights as at work during the day, also like to wait until children in bed so can watch in peace, without "mum, what is he doing? who is winning? Why has he fallen off? Can we watch Power Rangers instead this is boring?"

Will be late tonight as I have a school play to go to.

Panonabike · 03/07/2013 17:14

yes it's tough isn't it? 'Talk about the events' or 'wait til everyone has seen the highlights'?
For me I don't mind. I work full time in the day usually, (this week is a rare exception) so rely on the highlights, BUT I know how to check the unintended 'spoiler' posts between getting home and seeing the prog.
It'd be silly to not post about events as they unfurl so I'd suggest that those watching in the day (Envy) feel free to post and the rest of us exercise some forebearance and not look in until we are happy to.
Is this okay?

I agree with Panonabike. I avoid this thread if I don't want to know the result.

oh and if you tweet, following Jens Voight is a hoot. He tweets about the very mundane to the very 'experience' of road racing.

I only follow twitter for the cyclists (and their girlfriends, such a shame we won't be treated to Wiggo's wife vs Froome's girlfriend this year), the community has really taken to it haven't they. I love Cancellara's tweets they are the best use of the mangled English language I have ever read.

MrsWiggo v MichelleCound was THE highlight of last year's tour, Pan. They were at it hammer and tongs - and MrsFroomeToBe came out of it looking a touch deranged, if I may say so.

Love Jens Voigt - have you seen this? DH & I use it all the time - very useful for talking to the kids.

Watching it on ITV4 plus one. I love the little technical explanation bits done by Boardman and Boulting. Has anyone read Ned Boultings book about being a journalist at the tour, it's really funny.

Cath Wiggins comes across as really down to earth and funny, I want to be her friend! Her little digs on twitter last year were hilarious and Froome's girlfriend really wasn't good at being as subtle in return. Cav's girlfriend is quite good too. even though I hate her because if he met me he would love me forever and we would have perfect long eyelashed babies

A bit of a description of the twitter spat but apparently Cath's account has been deleted since she got a bit heated defending Wiggo's one fingered salute to the press last November.

Yes, you see I could do so much for Victoria Pendleton, too. Not least of which is teach her how to dance. I'd fear for the off-spring though.Grin
