go kenny

LostInWales · 05/08/2012 17:25

lljkk that is a brilliant cartoon.

No idea what was going on with that race so I feel for anyone new to cycling Grin. Love Kenney doing the sprint, I would be terrified if I was that Malaysian guy looking round and seeing him like a bike riding terminator on my back wheel.

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 05/08/2012 17:38

Go Vicky Torch

OlympyWindowMash · 05/08/2012 17:42

I believe our guy is down in 5th place now in the omnium

Well done Vicky!

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 05/08/2012 17:52

Thanks Olympy

ivykaty44 · 05/08/2012 19:10

OlympyWindowMash

your link has him as third?

OlympyWindowMash · 05/08/2012 19:12

Yes the link is to the latest standings - he has come 3rd

ivykaty44 · 05/08/2012 19:13

good Grin

LostInWales · 06/08/2012 18:28

Thank you to SeaShells for showing me . Just remember he's mine ok Wink

Another gold, awesome job Kenney. If I had an artistic bone in my body I could compose and ode to the perfection of his back.

evilgiraffe · 06/08/2012 19:56

Wow, Lost. Can we share? What a fantastic advert, and isn't he just brilliant? I could watch him on a bike all day, he's so good it takes my breath away. And he's gorgeous too, of course.

Another amazing day in the velodrome, so excited he has admitted he wants to be in the track for Rio today...it was pretty obvious the way he was nearly climbing over the rails to get on the track! I reckon he will go for 2-3more TdFs etc, get a couple track work championship race in to qualify then try to be on the track for Rio as the road race isn't suited to him apparently.

Team fb total domination in the velodrome...inspiring! So pleased for Kenny :)

yellowraincoat · 06/08/2012 20:11

Jason Kenny was great today, our cyclists just outclass everyone, they look great on the track. Can't wait for Pendleton now.

The Cavendish advert is fantastic, they should show it in schools (to the teachers as well, to remind them that stuff stays with you and while it might spur some like Cav on, it destroys others.)

evilgiraffe · 06/08/2012 20:34

I came home from work late today so missed the intro to the cycling (managed to see Kenny's win though - great stuff!) - what did Cav say?

Yes the Rio road race will apparently likely be too hilly for Cav so the track is his only option to get a medal. 2020 he might be too old to contest a medal (although you never know) so Rio is likely to be do-or-die for him. I'm scared just thinking about it!

Still planning a trip to France next summer though! I want to get big chalks and write GO CAV GO and WHATUP FROOMEDOG and KING WIGGO on the road...

ivykaty44 · 06/08/2012 21:26

6 gold medals in the cycling - that one third of the gold medals from the cyclists. Considering they took away a vast amount of events from the track we really excelled at it is great to see us still doing so well at this particular sport Grin

evilgiraffe · 07/08/2012 07:15

Wow, ivy, that's a fantastic statistic! Team GB have been (are being!) masterful in the velodrome.

I'm still annoyed they removed so many events - no-one suggested preventing Michael Phelps from competing in a million swimming events, did they?

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 07/08/2012 08:21

They've only done it to stop GB domination in every event Wink Grin

lljkk · 07/08/2012 08:23

That road chalking sounds great, I will look for it!!

You have to be a cycling anorak to know who Michael Hutchinson is, & place this remark in full context (MH former national time trial champ, & UCI rules limit entries to events to one per nation). MH put out a rather wry tweet yesterday about this yrs's Olympics:

UCI must be pleased at how the rule changes have opened up the competition and stopped one nation from dominating.

I know it's a mean thing to say, but I don't want UK to dominate TOO much. It's not like attitudes on the street are going to change towards cyclists :(. And otherwise it's a bit boring if you are pretty sure you know who's going to win.

Apparently Bouge was asking Kenny questions in the press conference yesterday, along the lines of "So when do you plan to retire so the rest of us can have a chance at Olympic Gold?"

lljkk · 07/08/2012 09:01

ps: we just got our Wiggins commemorative stamps from RM :).

LostInWales · 07/08/2012 09:18

Oh dear, that would make me a cycling anorak then Wink

I must go and get some of those stamps today, or should I wait until tomorrow and see if they've got anything in Hoy?

SeashellsAllezModInYellowAllez · 07/08/2012 09:30

I'm not quite anoraky enough to have known who he is, but I am obsessed enough to have seen that tweet with 5 mins of it being RT on twitter Grin

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 07/08/2012 09:31

Ooh! I want stamps. Do you buy them online?

I'm itching to see Chris Hoy this morning. Am I weird?

SeashellsAllezModInYellowAllez · 07/08/2012 09:41
Cav winning in Belgium the day after the men's road race - it is filmed from the bike of a guy retiring that day...watch Cav go Grin
OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 07/08/2012 10:00

Chris Hoy... coming up!!

CFSKate · 07/08/2012 10:06

From the Telegraph live blog

08:54
Cycling supremo Dave Brailsford just told the BBC that he told French newspaper l'Equipe that the secret to British success was using "round wheels" and the interviewer took him seriously.
