I've dithered between putting it in this section and the weather section.....

Quick disclaimer: Remember I'm an amateur forecaster and so I do get things wrong. Please don't make critical decisions based on any forecasts in this thread!

I'll only work up to 10 days in advance (which is five more days than I do normally any more than that and it really is getting into utter guess work. Anything after 5 days is really just trends and possibilities) Also please bear with me if I dont get round to answering everyones individual questions. As we go through the days the forecasts will change.

So:
27th July (Opening Ceremony)
All 3 main models I look at are showing a low pressure developing to the south with a warm (hot in the se?) and humid air mass. This means that heavy showers are likely in the south possibly with thunderstorms. (nature adding an extra light show to the evenings entertainments?)

Sat 28th July
Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. (In Scotland it looks bloody cold according to GFS, with temps struggling to reach 10C!) Unsettled with widespread showers.

"Sun 29th July*
Looking decidedly unsettled according to GFS with low pressure dominating and cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. However ECMWF looks more optimistic with high pressure forming in the wings - so lets hope that is the more accurate model :)

Morning all :)

Today, not wall to wall sunshine for all (though perhaps for some in the south) but a jolly nice day - warm/hot and dry. Lack of wind could be a problem for sailing again.

Sat, a bit cooler and more cloud around, partic in the north but still dry and warm. Rain moving into SW on Sat evening.

Sun, patchy showers moving over central England. Perhaps some thunderstorms. Hopefully dry for the closing ceremony away from the north and western coasts, warm/hot.

Today,
Sunny for many, though stubborn cloud perhaps in the NE. Cooler than yesterday with temps in low 20s. Rain starting to move into sw this evening. Overall, a beautiful day :)

Sunday
Some showers around Sunday am in the south and Nw Wales. Overall though another lovely day with rain not moving into the sw until nightfall. I think, that perhaps though, there is still the low chance of thunderstorms bubbling up.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 11/08/2012 07:37

So should be dry for closing ceremony, yay!

Sparklingbrook · 11/08/2012 08:03

Is this the end of the summer do you think? It's all unsettled for next week by the looks of it. Sad

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 11/08/2012 10:25

Sparkling, Next week looks really poor with high rainfall totals in places. Next weather that looks sort of ok is possibly in a fortnights time.
But at least tomorrow will hopefully be dry :)

Sparklingbrook · 11/08/2012 10:28

Well OYGGB we have booked a short break in Chester from 27/8-I daren't dream it will be ok.

It's lovely here today (Worcestershire). So nice.

Last update for the Olympics

Will try to do something similar for the Paralympics, but it will be a bit of a late start, due to not having Internet access for a couple of days.

Today, Fraid those showers in northern Wales and also now extending round Manchester way look set to run into the afternoon and perhaps extend further east. Some thunderstorms about. Otherwise a nice day. Dry for the closing ceremony. Warm/hot in the south.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2012 09:30

Thanks OYGGB. Closing ceremony thread

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 12/08/2012 19:05

Oh lovely, thanks for the link sparkling :) Going to be a splendid evening tonight for the closing ceremony. Hooray!

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2012 19:07

It absolutely chucked it down here this morning, but it's a lovely evening now. Getting quite excited about the Closing Ceremony. Grin

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 12/08/2012 20:06

I really hope that the weather for the Paralympics is as benign as the weather for the Olympics ended up. I know we didn't have a heat wave, and there was plenty of heavy showers and rain about, but overall, I think it wasn't too bad all things been considered. Certainly better than the weather in the run up to the Olympics.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2012 20:09

It was ok in the end wasn't it? if it was the week before it would have been a washout.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 12/08/2012 20:15

The canoes would have sunk Shock

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 13/08/2012 00:12

Well, the Olympics may be over, but weather will always happen.

< looks bravely on things>

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2012 00:27

That's true OYGGB.Smile

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 13/08/2012 09:14

seemed quite profound last night Wink
