I think there's still more in it too.

@Thatbliddywoman

I'm now wondering where a bartholins cyst would be-maybe I'm wrong, I thought they were always at the top of the vaginal opening? This was more inside between my inner and outer lips?

What a glorious thread!

Bartholin's cysts are lippy bastards. I had one earlier this year (pretty much where you describe) and eventually popped it with a sterilised needle. The relief! The pus in your pic looks very similar to what I got out too.

Lugubelenus · 23/08/2020 10:58

I am new to sporner's corner but not new to sporn, and thanks to this thread I have been happily watching Dr George videos on YouTube, hurriedly minimising my laptop screen whenever any of the DC come near Grin

I am loving the 'OMG that's gross' posts almost as much as the sporn on this thread. OP I'm glad you're feeling better.

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 11:51

@acatcalledjohn

Lippy bastards! Ah okay wow. Didn't know that. It was like, 2 lumps, with a blood spot on each which encouraged me to think maybe I could perform the delicate operation on myself. I finish work at 1600 and I will have another bath and squat over a mirror and see what's occuring then. I really hope It's healing and that's the end of it. What causes them?

@Thatbliddywoman yeah, we don't butcher unwell animals in this country. Just FYI... I guess if you DIY then you might have a purulent animal, if that's the case, you probably need to have a word with yourself.

acatcalledjohn · 23/08/2020 12:58

@Thatbliddywoman

It's when the bartholin gland/duct gets blocked I believe. Pic of location on vulva below.

When I popped mine I let it drain then put on antiseptic cream. The next day or two I squeezed out a bit more, and stuck to putting on antiseptic cream twice a day. I only did that for about 4 days.

It's not come back yet...

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 13:18

I don't think we meticulously health check each individual one before we butcher it

Thanks @acatcalledjohn, maybe it was then!? I'm going to check when I'm home. I'm glad I realised the person who said I shouldn't put antiseptic cream on was 'misinformed' Grin

Of course I am no doctor, and most doctors would practically recoil at my way of 'treating' it Grin. But you sound like a sensible & intelligent woman perfectly capable of making your own informed decision.

I'd use the sterilised needle option again because I don't like pain and the relief was worth it. (The needle part hurt less than the cyst, and the overwhelming instant relief was immense!)

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 13:51

Good idea, I might sterilise a needle for tonight before I get in the bath just in case it needs further 'treatment'. I haven't had any pain today though, although I've noticed a bit of blood when wiping after a pee. So I hope it'll be okay.

Question now for all of you sporners. It was two lumps yesterday before my glorious release. Today it is barely noticable but still there is a small hard lump, maybe the size of a very small pea.

1)Should I rag at it again? Or antiseptic cream/salt water and leave? It was bleeding this morning when i wiped myself after the loo, no blood now even when squeezed (I squeezed very mildly just to see if anything easily popped out)
2) If I leave it, I'm hoping the outcome is it wanes and goes away. Could it be that if I leave it it just grows again because if so, question 1 is definitely answered. No way am I going thru an episode like last night again!

I should tell you to leave well alone ..

But the sporner in me says attack it again!

picklemewalnuts · 23/08/2020 16:54

Leave it and just do salty baths. It will either shrink and disappear, or get bigger and closer to the surface, easier to pop!

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 17:00

I'm in a salty bath now.

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 17:16

Ive tried having a bit of a squeeze and nada. So going to hot water and salt it and stick on some antiseptic cream. Ive got some anti fungal cream too, I can't use that can I?

Erm I’m really not misinformed about the use of topical antiseptics and their efficacy.

They are also not really something that should be slathered all over your fanny.

I’d look at some research into topical antiseptics.

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 17:43

I'm not saying you are (or anyone is for that matter, if that was for me, @needsahouseboy). Anyway I've left it. Sometimes these things do subside on their own. I'm always a believer in good old salt water for infections. I just hope it goes now.

OP posts:
EBearhug · 23/08/2020 17:52

When I had an abscess down below, I was told to have twice daily salt baths. (I also had strong antibiotics that implied they'd either kill me or cure me - I wonder why I read the info leaflets with medication sometimes...) I also had to avoid the swimming pool, but was allowed to swim in the sea, which is good, as I had a beach trip planned and was going to be very miffed if there was no swimming.

So salt baths good, but I'd be wary of putting any creams or lotions about in that area.

My scalded toe is weeping a little, but otherwise appears to be fine.

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 17:59

Ive missed swimming tonight Sad just thought not a good idea.

OP posts:
EBearhug · 23/08/2020 18:07

Though swimming pools are currently probably the cleanest they've ever been. My local one certainly.

AnnaMagnani · 23/08/2020 20:17

I can confirm that topical antiseptics do not form any part of wound dressing in NHS treatment - you just clean wounds and stick a dressing on. Or not. Either way there isn't any antiseptic cream. There are no cupboards full of Savlon anywhere.

Once the pus is out your body knows what to do by itself.

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 23:05

Okay. I thought it may help if I applied it, in ensuring or making it less likely at least, for the surrounding areas to not succumb to infection. Anyway. I've left it. I've been a long time single and I have a date with someone I've seen a few times this weekend..gammy fanny is not a good look is it? Pray for me mumsnet Wink
