AnnMumsnet · 30/06/2016 15:43

The team at Coca-Cola Great Britain say “we were delighted to host MNers at our London HQ to showcase our new Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.” MNers were given the chance to take part in a tasting as well as chat to the team to find out more about the drinks sold by Coca-Cola GB.

The event was aimed at adults who like a sparkling soft drink and were interested in trying no sugar options.

They say “Coca-Cola Great Britain is launching Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, a new and improved sugar-free Coca-Cola which will replace Coca-Cola Zero. It will taste even more like Coke and look more like Coke but without the sugar. It is the result of years of innovation and recipe development and will replace Coca-Cola Zero which was launched in 2006. We’re pleased to give MNers a chance to be one of the first to give it a try and tell us what they think.”

There was also be an opportunity to find out more about the drinks that Coca-Cola offers – they make and sell 18 different brands including favourites like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Dr Pepper, Schweppes, smartwater and more. They also had experts on hand to answer any questions you might have about the drinks.

Attendees and non-attendees who tried Coca-Cola Zero Sugar at home, please share your responses to the following questions (non attendees please answer Qs 1- 5 below):

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.
9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?
10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?

Everyone who attended the event and shares their feedback on this thread on MN, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Yes I think it is obvious from the name that it is sugar free.

10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share

Why don't you like unions? Why do you take water from poor people? How was someone able to shoot a worker INSIDE the cc plant

Yes to this. And why is this poisonous product being promoted?
It causes the adverse effects on gut microbiomes and causes cravings and obesity.

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Pepsi Max, cherry.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I actually really liked it, more than I as expecting too!

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

Yes.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola zero Sugar is sugar free?

The name makes it kinda obvious, but it's a bit hidden on the label, the coca cola bit is more prominent.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Yep, already have off the back of the taste test.

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?

Vaguely , but didn't really pay much attention, anything fizzy I put tends to be sugar free or a diet version.

7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?

Honestly I don't think they have much choice given this sugar tax thing that's being brought in.

JennyWreny · 17/07/2016 08:51

Thanks for choosing me to try Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I thought it tasted a lot like regular coke.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes, I was expecting it to taste less sugary.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
I think possibly because the words sugar and zero are in different typeface, it might be a bit confusing.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
No, I don't like the taste of regular coke, so this isn't for me I'm afraid.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 17/07/2016 09:00

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Coca cola, although for sugar free I tend to drink Dr pepper zero or diet irn bru

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
It was ok, better than diet coke or coke zero

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
No, sorry. I didn't think it really tasted much like classic coke

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Definitely clearer, and I like the red disc on the can

5 Would you buy coca cola zero sugar
Possibly. But will probably stick to Dr pepper zero

CormoranStrike · 17/07/2016 09:10

Hi, thanks for picking me as a taste tester.

  1. Diet Coke.
  1. It was more like Coke, but that was no biggee for me as I prefer Diet Coke to full fat. DH loves it though, he took a 'sip' and finished the can.
  1. It tastes different, but more like cocker that sort Coke does. But not totally like Coke.
CormoranStrike · 17/07/2016 09:11

Whoops. Posted too soon.

  1. The can is distinctive enough to make me study it to see. And then info is clear.
  1. Possibly, though if I had enjoyed a full can could tell you more :)
Andbabymakesthree · 17/07/2016 09:23

):

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Much more like full fat coke. Really sparked my taste buds.
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes I was very surprised how it did.
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Occasionally yes
6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
No
7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
I'm not sure if reducing sugar for artificial sweeteners is such a good thing. I'd rather have occasional sugar drinks with water as my children's main drinks. I occasionally drink these drinks myself but wouldn't let my children!

BurstMyBubbles · 17/07/2016 20:07

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
coke, appletise or shloer.
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
we did a blind taste test with regular cola and on first sip couldn't tell the difference, but then decided zero had more of an aftertaste.
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
yes it did.
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
yes it is very clear - however I am unclear as to what makes it different from diet coke as the sweeteners are the same
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
No, I asked to trial it hoping that it wouldn't have artificial sweeteners as I think I am sensitive to them (ocular migranes dropped from 1 a week to 1 every few months after I cut out my one can of diet soda a day, could be coincidence but it was enough for me) so was disappointed to see it wasn't one of the newer things like stevia instead. It was interesting to try though so thanks for the chance.

Elliepurpleflower · 18/07/2016 07:31
  1. Squash or fruit juice.
  2. It tasted like coke with no sugar... Just what it is.
  3. I could still really tell the difference between normal coke and zero, but it tasted as I would have expected.
  4. Yes very clear
  5. Probably not... I liked it, but probably not enough to choose it over other drinks.
amusedbush · 18/07/2016 08:36

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Diet Irn Bru

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Watery, closer in taste to Diet Coke than Coke Zero.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

No, I actually liked it less than I thought I would.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Yes, it was clear.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

No, I preferred the old Coke Zero. I will stick with Diet Irn Bru.

RueDeWakening · 18/07/2016 11:14

Marking place, it's just arrived so have put it in the fridge to drink later today.

Fillybuster · 18/07/2016 12:48

Thanks for including us in this trial - sorry for the slight delay in posting feedback. We shared the one can between 3 (dh, ds (11) and me) to provide maximum feedback!

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke for me, Coke for ds and dh

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I thought it was too sweet. Ds loved it. Dh quite liked it.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Definitely.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Probably. Dh liked it and ds loved it. The problem is that I would prefer to let my children have the "full sugar" version of any sweet food on an occasional basis than feed them aspartame regularly - I don't believe it's healthy and it also drives them to develop more of a sweet tooth in the long term.

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
Two?

7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
I'd prefer a lower sugar version without aspartame.

8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.
N/A

9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?
N/A

10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?
Thanks for the chance to try the new Coke Zero Sugar.

Grin sorry, my phone had a turn and posted the questions without any answers! Answers included this time:

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
It tasted much sweeter than I'm used to.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
I've never drunk red Coke (unless hypo) as I'm T1 diabetic so it has too much sugar in for me. So I don't know if it tastes more like it - it definitely tastes sweeter than Diet Coke so I guess it probably did.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes, I'm used to the Zero name now, though the packaging made it blend in to normal Coke more than Diet Coke does, which might be confusing if I was grabbing it quickly on lunch or something.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes. But only if Diet Coke wasn't an option (I still preferred it to Pepsi, for example).

Thanks for the chance to try it!

watchingwaves · 18/07/2016 16:18

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Coke Zero
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Not much of a difference to old Coke Zero
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
It tasted similar to old Coke Zero which was what I wanted. Diet coke tastes hollow and Coca-Cola tastes too sweet
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Definitely
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Definitely and I have done but one of the cans had a faulty ring pull and I had to decant the drink whereas I prefer to drink straight from the can (I think it tastes different drunk out of a metal can to how it does out of a plastic bottle or a glass) - hope that was just a one off.

belleadele · 18/07/2016 17:22

I wasn't at the event so just tried the drink.
1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar? - san pellegrino lemonade
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?- nice, a mix between coke and diet coke, is definitely have it again
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would? - yes but to be honest I hardly ever drink coke, it definitely wasn't as sickly sweet
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free? - definitely
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar? - yes as an alternative to diet coke
Thanks for the opportunity!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 18/07/2016 20:03

StressedRach · 19/07/2016 17:01

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Coca-Cola Cherry

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I was actually pleasantly surprised, It tastes almost the same as Classic Coca-Cola but less syrupy, similar to the Classic Coca-Cola you get through a pump at a pub.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes although it did leave a sweetener tang aftertaste.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes it couldn't be any clearer

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes I would, I do not usually purchase Zero/Diet drinks as they don't taste very nice in my opinion but this one is much better than others I have tried and so similar I would by it, for me and the family.

finova · 19/07/2016 22:34

Home tester
1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Sprite, Rubicon, San Pelligrino and fizzy Vimto

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I liked it, didn't taste sugar free.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes very clear

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
For myself and husband yes.
Not for children as tend to go for sugar over sweeteners.....might ask dentist how much better would be though!

Ratbagcatbag · 21/07/2016 10:01

What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke or squash.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I thought it tasted a lot like regular coke, I couldn't really tell the difference between full fat coke and zero sugar.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes, i was expecting a more synthetic taste but this wasn't like that.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Im still unsure of the difference between this and coke zero!?!? So could be easily confused as a rebranding when on the shelves.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I still prefer diet coke, but I would go for this in the absence of diet coke, rather than say switch to Pepsi max.

Tiredbuthappy1970 · 21/07/2016 11:22

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Water, squash, elderflower with sparkling water.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Thought it might not have the distinctive diet drink taste but it did.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
No

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Zero implies that, the general look of the product - nice design but doesn't say anything but Coca Cola to me.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
No. If we have fizzy drinks in the house I usually buy regular Coca Cola, the kids only drink it occasionally and it tastes nicer.

Annieuk75 · 21/07/2016 22:45

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Cherry Cola

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Couldn't taste the difference at the event...however, I had just eaten some very spicy chicken!

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

Yes, I thought it would have had more of an after taste

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Absolutely, you can't get more obvious than the word zero meaning nothing ;-)
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Yes, already have 2 boxes in my cupboard (though I do occasionaly add cherry cordial!)

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?

I was aware that most drinks now come in a sugar free version, but contain horrid tasting sweeteners
7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?

Very positive, means that people can still enjoy a nice cold coke, but not worry about the sugar.
8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.

I learnt more about the sports events that Coca-Cola do a lot of community activities with young people, and also pleased that they do not promote to children under 12...my 8 year old wasn't pleased at that!

9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?

It was good to learn what a large company they are and the diversity of drinks they produce. I was most suprised how much I liked the Zero Sugar...I didn't think they would win me away from Cherry Cola.

10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?

Worth mentioning that next time they do an event like this, not to offer spicy food before a tasting ;-)
