The team at Coca-Cola Great Britain say “we were delighted to host MNers at our London HQ to showcase our new Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.” MNers were given the chance to take part in a tasting as well as chat to the team to find out more about the drinks sold by Coca-Cola GB.

The event was aimed at adults who like a sparkling soft drink and were interested in trying no sugar options.

They say “Coca-Cola Great Britain is launching Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, a new and improved sugar-free Coca-Cola which will replace Coca-Cola Zero. It will taste even more like Coke and look more like Coke but without the sugar. It is the result of years of innovation and recipe development and will replace Coca-Cola Zero which was launched in 2006. We’re pleased to give MNers a chance to be one of the first to give it a try and tell us what they think.”

There was also be an opportunity to find out more about the drinks that Coca-Cola offers – they make and sell 18 different brands including favourites like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Dr Pepper, Schweppes, smartwater and more. They also had experts on hand to answer any questions you might have about the drinks.

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
No
This has aspartamine in which is pretty poisonous so I am not sure why it is being promoted.

Artificial sweeteners disturb the gut's bacteria.
Artificial sweeteners are also associated with obesity.

Pigeonpea · 14/07/2016 22:08

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Full fat coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Awesome - not quite full fat coke, but the best yet and I would choose to drink it
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes - absolutely
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes - smart packaging, clear labelling

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes!

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
No!

7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
I think it's important - whilst we all have to take steps to self regulate and monitor our own health and consumption of food and drinks, I think Coke Zero offers the full fat flavour that people want, with less potential health issue due to sugar consumption

8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.

yes
9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you? N/A
10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?
My husband is a die hard fan of diet coke, however, he tried this can of Coke Zero and agree that the taste was far superior to diet coke and we both agreed that we would happily drink it

Tonkatol · 14/07/2016 22:34

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

My preferred soft drink is Diet Coke, although I also like to drink Citrus Diet Coke when available in stores.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I really liked the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar. To me it is very similar to the taste of Coca-Cola. I have always loved the taste of Coca-Cola but, because I drink quite a lot of soft drinks, I chose to drink Diet Coke as I didn’t want to consume all the extra calories.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

Up until now, no diet cola I have tried has tasted anything like Coca-Cola. However, without drinking both together, I would not be able to tell the difference between Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

The name definitely makes it clear that this drink is sugar free. Reading the can, I can immediately see it has no sugar. However, the solid red panel and the “Coca-Cola” wording at the front of the can could, at a glance, be mistaken for Original Coca-Cola.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I would definitely buy this. For me, this has the fantastic taste of Coca-Cola, without the sugar. This makes it a win-win situation for me.

galit · 15/07/2016 06:26

I was a non-attendee so answering 1-5 only:

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Diet Coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Not overly impressed, it didn't have as much flavour as Coke Zero and didn't taste anything like real Coke. Reminded me of own brand supermarket diet cola.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

No, I was expecting it to taste more like real Coke than it did.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Yes.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

If there was no Diet Coke or Coke Zero then maybe.

Yes it did for me.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Yes, it is very clear

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I probably would as I enjoyed the taste.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 15/07/2016 11:42

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I'd usually go for a Pepsi Max or Diet Dr Pepper

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I was impressed with the taste. Much better than the old/original Diet Coke and closer to the real thing.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes, it did!

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes, makes it clear that no sugar is involved.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
If I was buying a soda, I'd defo consider buying this. Though it would be nice to have sodas with a safer sugar alternative - like stevia or even sucralose.

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
No, I didn't.

7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
Not convinced about how healthy the alternative to sugars being used actually are. Would prefer something safer.

8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.
I wasn't at the event - tested at home.

9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?
Not at event.

10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?
Nothing I can think of, apart from would love to see stevia used more instead of the old fashioned, and not very healthy sugar subs!

Bec32 · 15/07/2016 12:30

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet coke
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I thought it was a better tasting than Coke Zero. It had more flavour and didn't have as much of the aftertaste you get from sweeteners. It had a fuller taste of that makes sense. Not sweeter just more flavour. I liked it.
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes I did. I wasn't expecting to have more taste as with zero sugar you expect blander and tasteless.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Absolutely, does what it says on the tin. I.e. Zero sugar!
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes I think I would. It still has caffeine in it and as a non-coffee drinker Diet Coke is a life line for me and this tastes betters I absolutely i'd buy it.

raviolig · 15/07/2016 12:35

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Pepsi Max cherry

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Nice, quite similar to Pepsi Max , sweet but not overly and not too artificial (like diet coke)

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes probably

6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
Yes

7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
I am not convinced that replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners is necessarily a good thing. Concentrating on reducing the amount of fizzy drinks would probably be a better idea.

8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports?
Not particularly
Please share what you learnt at the event.
I didn't attend the event

9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?
I didn't attend the event

10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?
No thanks

KindDogsTail · 15/07/2016 13:08

I am not sure why Mumsnet has this thread?

Drinks with artificial sweeteners are very bad for people, interfere with gut microbia and are associated with obesity.

BestLaidPlans · 15/07/2016 13:59

1 Pepsi Max, ideally Cherry.

2 Nicer than Pepsi Max, a lot closer to Classic Coca Cola.

3 Yes, much more than expected. I really dislike diet Coke but this seemed much closer to the original.

4 Yes. Clear font, unambiguous meaning.

  1. Definitely.
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/07/2016 14:14

I'm bloody flabbergasted how so many people get all "Oh I won't TOUCH Nestle because of the Baby Milk Formula Scandal" but will cheerfully glug Coke

Google and WATCH the Coca Cola Sponsered Rodeos.
Watch what they fund.

Then tell me you're happy to put money in their pockets.
I'd rather drink my own piss TBH. Angry

KindDogsTail · 15/07/2016 14:45

This quote below is from a pdf accompanying a book written by a professor who studies gut microbes, the missing link in our understanding of the body and mind. Drinks with artificial sweeteners cause harm.

Sweeteners in ‘diet’ fizzy drinks have adverse effects on our metabolism and microbes and can make us gain weight

I didn't attend but had a sample sent which I shared with my 12 year old son who loves Coke Zero.

  1. Coke Zero
  2. We actually thought it was a bit bland and tasteless, sorry ☹️
  3. No not really, didn't have a lot of taste to it.
  4. Yes
  5. Think I would stick to Diet Coke
triniposse · 15/07/2016 18:54

My preferred soft drink is Rubicon Fizzy Mango Drink.

The taste of Coca Cola Zero was surprisingly great. It isn't syrupy or sweet at all which is what I expected. It has a light taste as if drinking fizzy water but you could taste the Coca Cola flavour, the flavour wasn't too weak either. one of the best things about it is that you can't taste the sweetener in it, which is what mostly puts me off buying non sugar drinks. This sweetener isn't overbearing. It's also nice and fizzy.

Yes it tasted just like Coca Cola lovely.

The packaging is clear about it having no sugar.

I would definitely buy it which is amazing as I never put Coca Cola in my basket and if I do I tend to throw most of it away.
I am a covert now from dare I say it Pepsi to Coca Cola Zero.
Thanks for the treat and my son liked it alsoSmile

gazzalw · 15/07/2016 18:58

1 Coca Cola

4 Yes
5 If it was significantly cheaper than normal Coca Cola yes I would.
6 No
7 Can only be applauded TBQH
8 Yes please

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free? Yes
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar? Yes definitely
6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free? No idea
7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar? I think it's great and about time that soft drinks companies started to do this

Why don't you like unions? Why do you take water from poor people? How was someone able to shoot a worker INSIDE the cc plant?
