AnnMumsnet · 30/06/2016 15:43

The team at Coca-Cola Great Britain say “we were delighted to host MNers at our London HQ to showcase our new Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.” MNers were given the chance to take part in a tasting as well as chat to the team to find out more about the drinks sold by Coca-Cola GB.

The event was aimed at adults who like a sparkling soft drink and were interested in trying no sugar options.

They say “Coca-Cola Great Britain is launching Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, a new and improved sugar-free Coca-Cola which will replace Coca-Cola Zero. It will taste even more like Coke and look more like Coke but without the sugar. It is the result of years of innovation and recipe development and will replace Coca-Cola Zero which was launched in 2006. We’re pleased to give MNers a chance to be one of the first to give it a try and tell us what they think.”

There was also be an opportunity to find out more about the drinks that Coca-Cola offers – they make and sell 18 different brands including favourites like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Dr Pepper, Schweppes, smartwater and more. They also had experts on hand to answer any questions you might have about the drinks.

Attendees and non-attendees who tried Coca-Cola Zero Sugar at home, please share your responses to the following questions (non attendees please answer Qs 1- 5 below):

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
6 Did you know how many of the sparkling soft drinks Coca-Cola Great Britain offer are sugar free?
7 What do you think of the actions Coca-Cola Great Britain are taking to reduce sugar?
8 Would you like to know more about the community projects that Coca-Cola GB supports? Please share what you learnt at the event.
9 What else did you learn at the event?/What most surprised you?
10 Do you have any other comments you would like to share?

Everyone who attended the event and shares their feedback on this thread on MN, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £200 John Lewis voucher.

All non-attendees who try Coca-Cola Zero Sugar at home and share feedback on this thread, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £100 John Lewis voucher (they should answer Q1-5 above).

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke mainly particularly when eating out, the occasional Fanta, Sprite/7up, Appletiser, Orangina (rare)

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
It was nice but heavier than Diet Coke with a stronger flavour. It tasted sweet like hairbo where as Diet Coke has the sweetness of sweet popcorn if that makes sense

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
I haven't had regular Coca-Cola in years so it was funny tasting it but actually think it tasted more like Pepsi. That could be just my memory miss serving me though.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes although I'm not drawn to the design even if I like its simplicity. The dark colours aren't very inviting and it looks similar to Pepsi max.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
If there was no Diet Coke in the shop (as I prefer the flavour, as does my husband)then maybe but normally in that situation I would just go for water. The only reason I choose another soft drink when out is if they don't serve Coke products and it's only Pepsi, then I would have a Pepsi max which tastes similar to Coke Zero.

NorthernFlower · 12/07/2016 17:21

Couldn't attend the event, but the free sample arrived this morning. Questions completed after chilling the product. :)

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Normal Coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
An improvement over the original Coke Zero.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes, much closer to Coca Cola than I had expected.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes, the branding is clear.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes

FranksBobot · 12/07/2016 19:54

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet coke

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
It was a lot nicer than i was expecting. It also didn't have an artificial taste about it which I find some low sugar drinks have.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
You can definitely tell that it is a similar recipe but I found it less bitter than regular Coca-Cola

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes the packaging is very clear

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes, I think i will be swapping to Coca-Cola Zero Sugar from now on.

Thank you for sending me a sample, I was very skeptical that it would taste good but I'm very pleasantly surprised.

tired99 · 12/07/2016 20:18

Got my can of Coke Zero Sugar in the post this morning. I put straight in the fridge. Compared it to Pepsi Max as I had it in the house.
1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Pepsi Max
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
It was good. Slightly watery but still pleasant.
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
I haven't drunk a non diet drink for years but it definitely has the distictive taste of Coca-Cola.
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
I think it was pretty clear before as most sugar free drinks are labelled Zero. Maybe the name change is more for the US market where sugar free drinks don't seem to be as popular.
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes if it was on offer. I tend to choose the cheapest rather than having a preference for Coke or Pepsi.

hermancakedestroyer · 12/07/2016 22:19

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet coke
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Yes, I loved the taste and its closeness to classic Coca Cola and with no sugar would happily buy it for my family and I

Thank you for letting me try it and give my opinion.

KindDogsTail · 12/07/2016 22:41

Is this by any chance a place for someone to give their general opinion on this drink, or only for answering the questions posed at the event?

torthecatlady · 13/07/2016 00:21

Hi,

I am giving my feedback as a non-attendee for the new Coca Cola Zero Sugar.

As a collector of Coca Cola merchandise and an interest in the brand, I would have loved to have attended the event but live too far away (South Wales). From the pics posted by other mumsnetters, it looked great!

Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to try it at home!

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Diet Coke is always my drink of choice, however when using a mixer with alcohol I use regular classic coca cola.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
I enjoyed coca cola zero sugar, which surprised me as I was not a fan of Coke Zero which Really lacked in flavour. I'm impressed.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Absolutely 100%, it tasted much more like regular coca cola than I expected it to.

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes. I believe it is very clear that there is no sugar within coca cola zero sugar. However, I do think it is confusing having the word "zero" in the name as used previously with coke zero.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes. I have already purchased it again, but instead of diet coke as part of a meal deal. Again, I enjoyed it and will be recommending it.

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Caffeine Free Diet Coke
2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Really liked it, very close to Classic Coke but a bit more flavourful and less 'chemical-ly'.
3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?
Yes, but without putting my teeth on edge like Coca-Cola does.
4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?
Yes. I really like the new design but having read earlier feedback (not a Pepsi drinker) the circle is quite reminiscent of the Pepsi logo.
5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?
Yes, if widely available. I now only drink soft drinks very infrequently since eliminating/reducing my consumption of processed foods.

As a home tester, I'm skipping to 10 Additional comments
It would be so great if Coca-Cola could work on a decent tasting version of Diet Coke without aspartame. I would rather have a reduced amount of sugar and no aspartame than no sugar and all aspartame, if you see what I mean.

Hopezibah · 13/07/2016 16:46

We were non-attendees -

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

regular coca-cola.

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

far better than the previous formulation. I gave some to my husband for his opinion as he has always moaned about having anything other than regular coca-cola and even he said it was better than usual

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

yes definitely an improvement as far less sweetener 'aftertaste'

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

I really like the look of it. Looks like coca-cola but clearly says sugar free.

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I'd consider buying it as my husband seemed to like it and he's usually the biggest critic of artificially sweetened drinks as he normally doesn't like the taste.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2016 16:51

1 What was/is your preferred soft drink before trying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

Full-sugar coke or water

2 What did you think of the taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

I am sorry I did not like it. I am not a fan of "diet" drinks (don't like aspartame) and unfortunately I could still taste it in this product. Otherwise, I thought the drink was a bit tasteless and bland.

3 Did Coca-Cola Zero Sugar taste more like Coca-Cola than you thought it would?

no - it is not a patch on the real thing!

4 Do you think the name and look of the drink make it clear that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is sugar free?

Yes

5 Would you buy Coca-Cola Zero Sugar?

No. I am trying to cut down on my consumption of fizzy drinks and I limit myself to 1 full-sugar coke a week now. I was hoping that this could be an acceptable alternative - but sadly not!
