forestry England sites are good for a countryside walk, with a selection of climbing frames /activities, and then a cafe that serves drinkable coffee /yummy cakes. No one is getting lost, car parks are easy and everyone is sleepy on the journey home, including the dog.

We are planning a steam train ride with a country walk, an old-fashioned seaside day trip, and a visit to an NT property. Really looking forward to sunnier days soon!

We like going to Sheringham Park. You can walk through the park and get to the beach. There are lookout towers to climb on the way. You also go over a bridge and if you time it right can see a steam train going underneath.

We are planning on going camping near the beach. We will take a picnic for lunch and fish and chips on the sand for tea

We like to head out for a bike ride on a local trail. I pack picnic, snacks and drinks so we don’t spend money. We have various favourite picnic spots depending on how energetic we’re feeling!

A day out in the moors with a picnic and flask of tea!

A walk on the beach with the dog, a picnic lunch followed by a fish and chip supper

A trip along the Jacobite railway for the full Harry Potter experience.

We are planning a visit to Sea Life and if possible this summer a trip out to Lego Land.

A day out in the local lido with a picnic in the park under a tree.

we love going to our local beach its simply stunning and kids love it

My favourite wholesome family day out was a simple beach picnic last summer when we had an unusually warm weekend. We packed homemade sandwiches, strawberries, and a big flask of tea and headed to the coast early in the morning. The kids spent hours building sandcastles and paddling while the adults relaxed under a cheap parasol listening to the waves and chatting.
The best moment was when we all sat together wrapped in our beach towels watching the sunset, sharing fish and chips and laughing about who made the worst sandcastle. No phones, no rushing just good food, sea air, and quality time together. It reminded me that the simplest days often become the most unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Fly to a beautiful beach in Spain. I have a wonderful flowing dress on that glides along with the sea breeze. My kids are working together to sandcastles whilst authentic Spanish music plays. There's no need to worry about dinner as a Spanish tapas bar is by the beach. The day is glorious.

We are planning a trip to the local fun fair with the kids

It has to be the seaside. Can manage it for almost zero cost and it never disappoints. Excited for the bank holiday now!

There's a gorgeous AOONB near us with natural springs and a stream. The kids used to love playing in the spring when they were younger, jumping over the stepping stones and swinging on the makeshift rope swing. Now they're far too cool for that sort of thing but it's still a lovely place for a picnic and a shady walk in good weather.

BristolMum96 · 20/05/2026 10:58

We’re going to the Roman Baths. An interesting day out to learn about history, a spot of lunch, then heading to Victoria Park so my LO can play in the (hopeful!) sunshine

Cradlemadle · 20/05/2026 11:06

I’m going to the Cotswolds with my friend’s daughter (my goddaughter) for her birthday. So excited to get out of London, smell the fresh air, explore villages and drink endless tea and scones. And the weather is PERFECT this weekend. These really are the moments I’ll cherish.

madeinthe80z · 20/05/2026 11:16

Does the paddling pool in the back garden count?! Other than that, trying to save a bit of money so picnics in the park, feeding the ducks and playing on the 2p machines at the beach will do us! Praying for the sunshine to continue!

I would love to do something like this. Not many natural springs in london sadly.

Witley Court in Worcestershire - an English Heritage site. There is a beautiful fountain and the ruins to explore. Lots of space to run around. Playground on the side. And the kids love collecting conkers while we are there.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 20/05/2026 12:40

A trip to a National Trust - always feel very wholesome and civilised!
The grounds are usually amazing as are the scones!

Heatwaves58 · 20/05/2026 13:21

Nothing beats a trip to the beach to cool off in the summer months.

Flannelfeet · 20/05/2026 13:27

A walk up to torwood castle, blue pool and tappoch broch with a picnic. My little girl loves it ❤️. Its right on my doorstep and we do it every year. Definitely worth a wee Google ☺️
