With National Teacher Day coming up on the 8th May MNHQ would love to know the phrases you remember your teachers always saying….also if you are currently a teacher please share the phrases you most commonly use during your classes.

Do you have strong memory of one of your teachers always using the ‘I’m not angry just disappointed’ line? Perhaps whenever your teacher was annoyed at someone they would say ‘It’s your own time your wasting’? Or maybe as a teacher you’re becoming known for saying one phrase in particular?

My teachers always told my mum I talked too much! But that I was a Pleasue to teach!
Now I’m a parent I’ve heard those exact phrases for my own children! They must teach them at teacher training!!

I got told the story of the person who swung on their chair and split their head open the same story every chair swingers heard

The child who threw a snowball and made another child go blind is another myth I remember!

Music teacher - 'Some people don't have any talent and we advise their parents to remove them from classes. Some have a bit of talent and work very hard and develop their skill. Some have loads of talent but never work...YOU are of that Kind and its infuriating!

'The answers are at the back of the book, but I'll trust you not to look at them'

"Empty vessels make most noise" was a comment that I heard repeatedly through school in response to a noisy class. Apparently it was to illustrate that noise indicated a lack of brains.

My French teacher once told me 'I don't know how you came third in the test you never speak in the class.'
It was a written French test .

One of my primary school teachers used to say "If you spent as much time working as you do talking you'd be a genius".

"If you've got something interesting to say, maybe you would like to share it with the rest of us?" Every time I was caught whispering to my friend instead of getting on with my work!.

I still use the chair threat!

"Am I boring you?" if someone appeared distracted in class.

Threatening with making us have to pick off the old chewing gum from underneath the tables- never heard of anyone having to do it

And the kid who swung back on a chair and died

Apparently all my DS' teachers begin every sentence with "Right!" as he now does this.

‘Go and sit on the toilet’ to a complaint of stomach ache.

"If you had been listening you would know what you need to do"

"No you can't go to the toilet, playtime has only just finished"

My favourite teacherism is, 'You should know that by now!'

It's a good one for those tricky occasions when a pupil asks you, the teacher, a question you don't know the answer to - but know that you should.

My fellow classmates were hooligans and whenever my language teacher was giving them a telling off (every.single.lesson) she would say 'Now I'm not tarring you all with the same brush by any means. ..' :D

Ooh my R.E teacher would always have a drawing element to our studies to fill the hour lesson spot but would be furious with everyone for enjoying the colouring in and say 'Well you can't get a GCSE in colouring in!'
