although i like to vary the diet, our go to meals are generally roast dinner, spaghetti bolognese, stews and fajitas

cherylann2461 · 27/01/2018 20:10

Pasta dishes, jacket potato, stew with herby dumplings.....food to keep the cold out!

CathBookworm · 27/01/2018 20:17

Tuna and pea pasta- (boil pasta and frozen peas ) add tinned tuna and stir in tomato pasta sauce. Lamb stew -Boil stew veg of your choice for 15 mins. Fry diced lamb with herbs and pepper until brown. Place veg and lamb in casserole dish with 2 cup fulls of lamb stock and place in oven (200 c) for about an hour. Can put dumplings in half way through.

Spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie, stir fry

I do a lot of shopping in Lidl now, having used to be a Sainsbury’s shopper. Now I save so much more money. We always have a roast dinner at the weekend and some sort of leftover meal during the week. This week will be fajitas, last week we had a stir fry.

Thai curries is the big thing at the moment, red, yellow or green

juju3 · 27/01/2018 21:24

cottage pie, fish pie, sausages

grannybiker · 27/01/2018 22:09

Pasta features heavily and I tend to batch cook a basic tomato, garlic and onion sauce that then gets frozen in takeaway containers and add bacon, ham, sausage, tuna - whatever we fancy / have coming up for Use-By! Also add veggies that need using. Very little waste in this house as we have chickens and a dog!

Our staple meals are a mixture of traditional meals, such as Cottage Pie, roast beef on Sundays, chicken, pork chops through the week, along with dishes such as lasagne or pasta of some sort.

I usually try to cook from scratch, and when making these dishes I try and make enough for two meals, and freeze one to make a little less work.

Quorn, pasta and kidney beans is our go to meal. Quick and healthy and simple and, best of all, everyone loves it!

TheImprobableGirl · 28/01/2018 10:49

Mystery stir fry is amazing. All the fridge veg that is left at the bottom throughout the week, fried up with some honey and soy sauce, maybe a bit of ginger or chilli and served with noodles!
I usually have some roast meat left which gets chucked in too :)

Lidl is great for cheaper veg and cuts of meat as these are ideal for a last minute stir fry

otter099008 · 28/01/2018 11:16

My staple family meals are fairly standard: spaghetti bolognese, shepherds pie, pasta bakes and the like.

bubbleybooboo · 28/01/2018 12:10

Shepherds/Cottage pie is always a winner in our house, or loose potato pie with pastry squares. Everyone likes them and they keep you warm on a cold winters night so all good for this time of year.

Wraps:

Chicken diced, bacon strips, pepper strips, cucumber diced, tomatoes diced, sliced mushrooms, rice.

Salsa sauce or mayo spread onto the wrap and then help yourself to fillings. We all love this easy dish and it's also very filling.

Catmadroo · 28/01/2018 14:24

My son has a few meals he will eat but have to be the same brand each time for example
Salmon fish pie and Quiche from Aldi
Quorn meatballs with spaghetti
Linday Mcartney Veggie Burgers
Pizza this is the only thing doesn't matter which shop it comes from!

only veg he will eat are Broccoli, Peas and sweetcorn. So our meals are pretty repeative.

farqualar2 · 28/01/2018 17:15

Chicken salad and low fat chips, sardines on toast, home made pizza, lamb chops with random veg

Esmeralda78 · 28/01/2018 18:41

Cottage Pie, Jacket Potato, Spaghetti Bolognese are our main staples. The kids never tire of these.

blue25 · 28/01/2018 19:45

Pulled Pork cooked in the slow cooker for 9 hours is a big favourite. Served with potato wedges or on crusty rolls.

ggjacks · 28/01/2018 20:06

I eat a ketogenic diet so my staples are meat, fish and veg/ salad, I adapt my sons meals so we eat the same meat/ fish
we eat tacos (I have taco salad) chicken wrapped in bacon, thai green curry, steak, roast dinner, salmon and lots of omlettes!

RiSo · 28/01/2018 20:15

Roast dinner, meatballs and pasta or wedges depending on the child, homemade lamb burgers, homemade pizza and sausage casserole are our staples, at least 2 make an appearance each week normally

sofieellis · 28/01/2018 20:55

With different meal times it's difficult to get together for a big family meal. We do try a couple of times a week though and favourites are a big Quorn Cottage Pie with peas and gravy, or a Quorn pasta Bolognese.

cwalliss82 · 29/01/2018 06:07

In the winter we eat a lot of casseroles. I pack then full of chunky veg and the do some mash. They are different every time as it depends on what meat and veg I have but everyone loves it and I can cook it in advance and then reheat for tea.

Peachpie14 · 29/01/2018 07:48

Roast chicken on Sundays, usually chilli during week made with turkey mince as its delicious and healthy, then things like soups and have been using slow cooker lately Smile
