My great niece loves her veggies & I'm sure she's going to take after me as a vegetarian. The other week her Nana was eating steak & she asked what it was so she said 'it's steak, it's from a cow'. Olivia looked horrified & said 'But Nana, you can't eat a cow, it's an animal!' She'll be 5 soon but she always asks for veggies when we ask her what she wants for dinner.

Our favourite dish is an American one, called Buffalo chicken. It's adapted from its original American recipe to make it slightly healthier!! It's quite a hot dish as well, so depending on who is coming we will vary the amount of hot sauce in the dish.
I always try to serve up food in the middle of the table for everyone to help themselves, so people can take the appropriate portion size, but this doesn't stop my husband going in for seconds before others have finished their firsts!!
We have Buffalo chicken with a homemade potato salad, and a green salad.
Other than that the recipes I turn to time and time again are our favourite veggie ones, like aubergine based dishes, because they are so quick and filling after work!

Salad and anything, usually hot in winter. Healthy, nutritious and filling!

fumingbird · 26/01/2018 08:28

Kedgeree!! Quite simple and quick, just need a few pans. Cook basmati rice, boil some eggs, cook smoked haddock/cod then mix the cooked rice and fish into a base of sauteed onion, garlic, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, tablespoon hot curry powder, lump of butter and salt, once its all mixed add lemon juice and coriander and serve topped with hard boiled egg. I take out some of the onion mixture before adding the curry powder for my 3 year old as she doesn't like anything too spicy. Its nice with some green veg like aspargus or fine beans added as well, but I'm the only one in the family that thinks this Smile

Unfortunately my little boy is a very fussy eater so his staple meal is fish fingers, french fries or happy faces, and marmite!

phillie1 · 26/01/2018 08:55

pasta bolognese

kicking01king · 26/01/2018 08:59

We have several ‘staple’ meals that we eat regularly: cottage pie, chilli, spinach, chickpea and sweet potato curry, baked haddock with butter beans, tomatoes and onions and sweet and sour chicken. We have at least one of these meals every week.

Ganne1 · 26/01/2018 09:12

Home-made spaghetti bolognese, various curries (but mainly kurma and pathia), chicken meals then turned into soup, savoury croissants ...

theno1dj · 26/01/2018 09:18

Jacket potatoes, pasta bake, spag bol., chicken fajitas, and usually a pizza night.

janeyf1 · 26/01/2018 09:19

Sausages or fish fingers, oven chips or potatoes and beans or peas

03kelwil · 26/01/2018 09:28

Spaghetti Bolognese
Sausage Casserole
Pasta

My children will eat anything as long as they can have tomato sauce with it! Grin

Veggie lasagne with garlic bread is always a favourite, jacket potatoes with beans and cheese and veggie bolognaise and also popular.

shellywkd · 26/01/2018 09:57

Definitely pasta in our house. We make up big batches of lasagne and sauces for pasta bake and spaghetti. We also like a good roast once a week as well.

xcxcsophiexcxc · 26/01/2018 10:00

I love adding honey roasted carrots to my dishes ! We all love them

hiddenmichelle · 26/01/2018 10:03

pasta with whatever veg is left over. 20 mins from start to finish and everyone eats it. It is my favourite "I haven't been shopping meal" that everyone will eat!

SuzfromSoton · 26/01/2018 10:07

Sausage casserole is my easiest staple meal - precook the sausages; bung them in the slow cooker with a tin of toms and whatever leftover veg and herbs you have in. Nice and easy. :-)

hannahintheworks · 26/01/2018 10:09

Our no 1 family meal is chilli!

We do our shop in Lidl for mince, tinned tomatoes, Pitta breads, garlic, chilli powder, rice and sour cream. Then I cook it all up without a kidney bean in sight because we can’t stand them!! We all love it, especially my 2 year old and we have it once a week without fail! The best bit is that it all comes to about £7/8 in Lidl!!!

AngelwingsPetlamb · 26/01/2018 10:22

We love bean chilli made with kidney beans and haricot beans, tin tomatoes, tomato purée, 2 stock cubes, smoked paprika, a pepper, a carrot, an onion, several cloves garlic, three or four chilli peppers. Served with brown rice, chopped fresh coriander on top and a dollop of sour cream or Greek yoghurt.
Very healthy, very tasty and very cheap to make too.

dul4hw · 26/01/2018 10:36

It's usually really tough to find a meal everyone will eat in our house but either a creamy pasta dish or vegetable and prawn fried rice usually go down well.

southernsun · 26/01/2018 10:40

Monday night is always slow cooker chilli as the kids love it and we both finish work a little later so it is helpful to have tea cooked and ready for when we all get home.

meepmoop79 · 26/01/2018 11:11

Spaghetti bolognese, pork chops, roast chicken, sausages, along with either potatoes, pasta or rice.

nettymay · 26/01/2018 11:14

We eat loads of salad and vegetables with fish and eggs and love adding avocados and assorted nuts

SSCRASE123 · 26/01/2018 11:31

Loads of stir fries and pasta/rice. We get through a lot of chicken !.

boobybirdsworth · 26/01/2018 11:50

A chicken stew with all different types of veg is a firm favourite that I cook in bulk and freeze. You can have it with anything, rice, pasta, potatoes, chips. It's tasty and nutritious. I make chicken soup and spag bol in the same way so we always have something decent in the freezer :D

gd2011 · 26/01/2018 11:52

Curry, pasta, falafel, stew
