I find it tricky to come up with teatime ideas that everyone will eat but the meals we enjoy most as a family are a roast chicken with Yorkshire puddings and veg, chicken fajitas, paella, chicken korma and rice and good old spaghetti Bolognese.

Roast vegetables, wraps and haloumi. With sides of chips and olives. Is a weekly staple in our home. Sometimes haloumi is swapped with chicken or salmon. Sometimes the sides are wedges or sweet potato fries.
Vegetables are usually chosen from Lidl’s pick of the week or whatever’s on offer.
It’s an easy sociable meal that we can always add to for extra guests.

Spaghetti bolognaise and we throw in as many veg as we can disguise 😂

I love investing time and lovely ingredients in a cooking session but then feel delightfully triumphant the next night when I don't have to cook as there are sufficient leftovers. I do try however to put some imagination into serving the food in a different way. For example an extra big pot of Joe Wicks Bad Boy Chilli (beef and turkey mince to ring the changes and fat content) is great with a salad or some wholegrain rice one night. The next night I serve it up on top of home made wedges with some cheese and crushed tortilla chips and all heated in the oven. A completely different take on it which is always popular.

Home made pizza is a favourite, I get out lots of toppings and everyone can make their own

Another favourite is “ham rice and beans”... fry the ham (or pepperoni) a bit, and mix in to cooked rice and add a tin of cooked baked beans. A handy store cupboard option for days we get home late and the children are hungry!

Our little one is not a big fan of potatoes so we tend to eat curry, fajitas and tacos fairly regularly. Spaghetti and meatballs always go down well (as long as there’s garlic bread). For a speedy tea I chuck leeks, Potato, cheese, red peppers and ham into a massive frittata (he doesn’t seem to have cottoned on about the spuds in it lol)

Tray bakes are easy and you can incorporate all sorts of veg or meat in one tray, especially the stuff languishing in the fridge at the end of the week!

WheresMyPudding · 25/01/2018 08:14

Our staples are classic dishes such as spaghetti bolognese, cottage pie, fish with new pots and veggies, stews, curries, salads.
I try to make something new at least once a month, usually a recipe from Good Food magazine. I'm happy to tweak or change a recipe to our tastes by leaving out a particular spice or whatever.

Spaghetti Bolognese
Cottage Pie
Roast Chicken dinner

All family favourites - good balance of carbs, protein and veg!

whitbyranger · 26/01/2018 05:12

Pasta, vegetarian chili, shepherds pie, vegetable curry, omelettes, baked potatoes with various fillings, roast dinners,

tabbaz123 · 26/01/2018 05:43

We have a really good diet as everyone eats well with no fussy eaters - Chicken and Fish are both high on the shopping list as are an assortment of fresh vegetables. One of the most popular dishes however is cottage pie OR should I say our version of it which is basically any mince, any veg and always some sweet potato mash on top

MimiJoy · 26/01/2018 06:12

As I am pre-diabetic, I try to eat low-carb and incorporate my diet into family meals - making variations if I have to. We have Sweet potatoes with tuna and mayo, spaghetti bolognese with black bean pasta, eggs on brown toast and homemade chicken and coconut curry as weekly staples.

Spices001 · 26/01/2018 06:34

Salmon & rice and chicken casserole

WarmHugs · 26/01/2018 06:42

The one meal both of my DC will eat is macaroni cheese. I can occasionally get away with tiny pieces of onion or sweetcorn in it, if they are feeling particularly adventurous!

hdh747 · 26/01/2018 06:46

Meatballs, curry, chilli, fish pie, roast dinner and pasta are all regulars.

snare · 26/01/2018 06:54

spag bol :)

TrixitySmith · 26/01/2018 06:55

Macaroni cheese - the boys have it plain and not baked. The adults have leeks and pancetta added and topped with tomato slices before it's baked. Delicious!

Narnianescape · 26/01/2018 07:06

Fajitas and Spaghetti Bolognese

TracyKNixon · 26/01/2018 07:07

chicken stew - so quick and easy to prepare, nutritious and loved by all the family - chop chicken, potatoes, carrots and onion then boil in some water with a little gravy browning and seasoning!

maryandbuzz1 · 26/01/2018 07:22

Fish pie is a good one for clean plates in our household.....along with shepherds pie, salmon and brocolli, meatballs, tuna and pasta and tacos and salad to name but a few.

pusinky · 26/01/2018 07:34

Spaghetti with tomato sauce and mushrooms and tofu on toast.

glenka · 26/01/2018 07:39

Cottage pie is always a favourite in our house and anything with pasta.

Annimousey · 26/01/2018 07:47

Spaghetti Bolognaise is a big staple in our house. My husband adds a bit of pesto to it and it really adds to the flavour.

Another staple is "Mummy's Cheesy Pasta." It's simply pasta, mayonnaise and then cheese melted in to it. It's so simple but it's both my boys fav!
