Everyone is welcome, and the thread disappears after 90 days.

Thank you for the last thread @lougle. I hope the doctor was helpful and DD2 isn’t feeling too rubbish this morning.

DS1 has used the last of his EOTAS hours today. There will be at least a few weeks before the EHCP is finalised and funding restarts. He will hopefully have his operation during that time, but it is still going to feel like a long time without that provision.

@Lougle the psychological war strategy of letting the goslings be in control is a missed opportunity for sure. Blessed are the Loops. I’m with DD1 factor 30 mins in add 20 and another X minutes, arrive early panic about being early, waste half a day being early.

i joined a work meeting late today.

@PurringTiger without the valleys you don't get the views from the mountain tops. DD has done so well but it must be overwhelming at times.

@Zzzzzs I hope the meds start well.

DD1 is micromanaging me to within an inch of my life. I've added everything into the calendar precisely, but she's adding buffer zones to timings that are already buffered. So at 12pm she's saying "Don't we need to leave in a minute to get DD2" because the calendar says "Collect DD2 1.30pm" but the time is set from 1pm to account for the journey. She wants to leave at 12.30 'so we're not late'. Then she's talking about food all day long. I know it's the meds but she's literally asking about the next meal when she's part way through the one we're eating.

Finally, she is giving a running commentary of everything she's doing and thinking. "Right, I filled my cup with water and drank it. Now I've finished, so I shall leave it in the kitchen..."

It's all very suffocating and I feel like I'm being tortured.

Perhaps we would have won WW2 a bit quicker if she had been there to interrogate captured spies. She could have talked them to death in between interrogation sessions, and kept all the soldiers on schedule.

@Lougle Likewise DD1! I can’t tell you how relieved the staff are, when we take her home for Christmas - and they have only had her talking about Christmas all her waking hours since Bonfire Night! It would be all year, left to her!

Any captured enemy soldiers in WW2 would have been ready to talk, after 3 months of it!

(When she was younger and before I learned better, she talked for a whole year about the Crucifixion. It fascinated her. I had to tell her in the end, I had told her everything I knew about the decomposition of bodies!)

Lougle · 10/09/2026 07:09

@PurringTiger the thing is, I already do all that when I'm setting my schedule, so she's double dipping on the contingency plans! Plus, she's pointing out all the things I have to do 'later' or 'tomorrow' when I'm just clutching my straw under the water in the moment.

@LathkillDale yes, it's amazing, isn't it? DD1 was waxing lyrical about fascinating snail facts as I was trying to work out where I was going in a diversion route yesterday. "Did you know that snails have 14 thousand teeth??" If I don't give an appropriately amazed reaction, she repeats it, or says "I didn't realise that snails have 14 thousand teeth."

It reminds me of DD2's ASD assessment, when the SALT tried to draw DD2 into conversation using her craaaazy naughty dog as a tool (knowing DD2 was massively into dogs). She almost got to the point of theatrics and had an incredibly exaggerated tone. DD2 was sitting with a deadpan face, occasionally murmuring "mmhm".

It's my birthday today. Loft insulation all day, scaffolding erection, college run, hydro, college run. I'm living the life! I can't even have nice food because of the low FODMAP, low fat diet thing. I am going to pop out for a cuppa with a friend in the afternoon once DH is back.

Fififizz · 10/09/2026 07:34

@PurringTiger

I’m sorry things are stressful again. It’s hard to have everything become unsettled when you’ve had a good run of things. I feel determined to shoehorn something floaty or fun in for me but currently between travel, sorting tech support, tutors, driving lessons, the bonkers dog, all things domestic, I haven’t found a window. These things shall come to pass and hopefully we’ll find a more settled pace again.

LathkillDale · 10/09/2026 08:08

@Lougle That reminds me of when we took DD1 in Y4 or 5 to a specialist speech and language school for assessment. The head of therapy had just done her assessment.

Anyway, she called us in to give us, their initial thoughts. There was a plate of biscuits on the table. She had asked DD1 a question to get an informal assessment of her conversational skills. DD1 didn’t stop talking and it had filled up a side of A4 of notes. She said DD1 did this to control the conversation, so she didn’t have to work hard at comprehending us! When we looked down, DD1 had quietly eaten the whole plate of biscuits!

Violasilkie · 10/09/2026 08:37

Happy birthday @Lougle Hope you get chance to do something nice at some point. I was impressed with the snail fact and you can tell her marine slugs have 27,000 teeth and that's what is for your birthday dinner. DS used to love facts like that too.

LathkillDale · 10/09/2026 09:38

@Lougle - yes, Happy Birthday! Can you have a birthday cake and/or dinner on a Fodmap diet?

(I used to make DD1 cakes with ground almonds and sugar free flavouring on the ketogenic diet)

Zzzzzs · 10/09/2026 09:39

@Lougle ds micromanaged me ALL day yesterday, the dh and dm both needed support….i felt like my brain was being squeezed through a pasta machine. I realised that my family just all talk at me at the same time and I’m expected to answer all of them….I do not have the skills for more than three conversations at once any more.

First night of new meds done. Day started chirpy so fingers crossed things are on an even keel. We have roofers today so there will be no peace but I can at least clean my frankly revoltingly dusty/grimy house.

PurringTiger · 10/09/2026 09:41

@Lougle Happy Birthday! Have a lovely time with your friend 🥳

Lougle · 10/09/2026 10:01

I feel for you @Zzzzzs

Grrr no sign of support for DD1

Lougle · 10/09/2026 10:03

@Zzzzzs I feel for you.

College support is chaos. LSA has just turned up. I've explained that we're not being told about who will support or where, and she shrugged and said "We don't get told until we get here."

drspouse · 10/09/2026 10:22

I'm in the middle of a call with the new SALT at DS school when the funeral director rings. Now waiting for SALT to ring back. Need to be checking the timings on my eulogy...
Brother being predictably difficult last night, his DDs talking him down. They are much more grown up than him!

Lougle · 10/09/2026 13:41

Strength to you @drspouse . This, too, shall pass.

Zzzzzs · 10/09/2026 13:52

We had a similar experience last year in college with random LSAs and sometimes them not turning up at all. Ghastly. Keep explaining that a muddled start is only going to snowball into less and less ability to absorb friction. Honestly it’s not rocket science. Sending patience @Lougle

@drspouse ive missed much of the detail of your family dynamics but funerals are terribly tense times. Be as kind as you can be, but you don’t need to be anyone’s punchbag. I hope the eulogy goes well and you get some rest soon.

Fififizz · 10/09/2026 14:12

@Lougle

Happy Birthday. I hope you got cards, presents, things you like, if you’re into them. I know Birthday’s can be an area of difficulty so I hope it was marked in a way that was good for you personally.

Absolutely not good about College. I’m hoping it can be sorted out. Why is everything is difficult and doesn’t happen as it should. Disappointing, especially after the SEN lead involvement.

roaringdragon · 10/09/2026 15:10

@drspouse thinking of you today.

@Lougle Happy Birthday. Enjoy your cuppa with your friend. When you have DD2’s AR, you could try to secure ‘consistent, dedicated’ wording.

@Zzzzzs I hope the meds help.

@drspouse

I hope the funeral went well, or as well as sad occasions can. I do hope your brother’s DD can talk the him down and the situation improves. It may take time but I do hope things settle. Take especially good care of yourself tonight. Sending virtual hugs or honks or both if you prefer.

PurringTiger · 10/09/2026 19:12

@drspouse thinking of you today and hope everything went as well as can be expected.

MumofMaskers · 10/09/2026 19:22

Hi all... wondering if I can join this thread for a bit of chat and moral support? My children are 7 and 5, so not sure if a bit young for this group or if it's for kids of all ages. Still at quite an early stage with things but have posted on the SEN board about various things and looking for people who get it.

roaringdragon · 10/09/2026 19:35

Welcome @MumofMaskers. I’m the person who suggested this thread to you. You are welcome to post here. The thread is for any age, your DC aren’t too young. Lots of the regulars at the minute have older DC, but you are welcome and there are posters who sometimes post who have younger DC.

Hello @MumofMaskers great user name! My DD is a teenage who was EHE from Y7. Are your at school?

Violasilkie · 10/09/2026 20:00

Hope the funeral went as well as it could @drspouse

Welcome @MumofMaskers

Just spent 3.5 hours in DSs bathroom cleaning it and the kitchen / corridor floor and taking up the old lino which is done whilst DS was sanding filler in the laundry room. DS kept appearing at the window looking like one of the long haired members of Def Leppard. Put a rug down as temporary floor covering. Also have to do a drawing of a radius corner for the worktop ordering for the company making it. Having a Chinese takeaway soon. I may have thought of a solution to the laundry room sink issue having cleaned the plumbing and examined it today.

MumofMaskers · 10/09/2026 20:23

Ah thank you - I had scanned the thread and noted lots of you have older DC but glad all our welcome - you must all have a lot of knowledge and experience!

Having a bit of a crap time, not good at linking threads but I've posted a thread on the SEN board about my children's challenges, EBSA, being out of school, unable to access school, trying to get EHCPs for them. Daughter is out of school, son is barely accessing it. Every day I seem to get at least one SEND related piece of news or email that makes my heart sink. I think it's all doing quite a lot of damage.

Lougle · 10/09/2026 20:38

Welcome @MumofMaskers . Age isn't really important - we've all been through it!

Fififizz · 10/09/2026 22:19

@MumofMaskers

Welcome @MumofMaskers
I have one teen with an EHCP and remember the earlier stages clearly. We’re all in this together.
