Pass the bucket! That's right up there with telling people who've lost a child that they now have an 'angel' in heaven.

Barf.

If someone sent me that, I'd slap them.

There are a lot of ways to describe ds1 and ds2 but "special charge" isn't one that immediately springs to mind.

coppertop · 01/08/2005 12:10

Or even precious charge

Whenever I get schlock that this I send back a response asking the sender to please remove me from their list.

But really, folks, we ought to put our heads together and come back w/a more appropriate rebuttal .

'She's 'special' in her own little way,
Please let us hope DLA will pay!
That she's ours is just down to our luck
Those who say otherwise can get to f*.'

How I love to wash poo from the wall,
And screaming's no trouble at all.
I adore those near-misses with cars.
And of course I'm talking out of my arse!

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 12:21

No hangover this morning btw....rather worried what this says about the state of my liver!

Fio2 · 01/08/2005 12:23

she does a funny comedy walk
she pulls her hair and smacks her face
a squeels highpitched for looks disgrace
you need not look you need not stare

John 9:1-3

1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples
asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was
born blind?"

3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but
this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.

apparently this also makes us special

In many ways he won?t adapt,
And he?ll be known as handicapped.

It's a cracker, isn't it? I have to admit, it made me laugh in a shocked, snorty, blimey-that's-appalling sort of way.

QueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2005 14:40

I'm sorry have to say that I (as a Christian) feel quite offended at these 'laughs' at Christian beliefs.

If don't believe it - fine I don't have a problem with it, but some people do actually belief and I'm sure would prefer it if you didn't rip the basis of what probably keeps many of them going to shreds.

expatinscotland · 01/08/2005 14:41

Now why can't I be f*ing special in a 'won the Lotto jackpot' way?

its patronising bullshit QofQ. Not the passage from the bible itself but to be told that is why you are in that position

I'm a Christian, and I don't believe for one second that I've been given a child with developmental delays b/c I am 'special' or to test my faith. I think it just happens.

QueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2005 14:47

and I suppose you know that ALL of the people that write these poems (which I have to confess I don't particularly like - find them a little 'cheesy') aren't Christians and don't have a child with SN??

From my limited knowledge of SN - they're all different, and I presume (as with most poems) each poem is written with a different 'type' of SN child in mind (or in front of them). So of course some of them are going to sound like complete garbage - but then most poems on any subject rarely live up to the 'reality' of what the poem is about IME

QoQ: It's because they're bad 'poetry'! (the ones that are made up).
I hate them if they're about SN, I hate them in birthday cards, I hate them in women's magazines.

But then again, there are worse things in life.

well as a Christian I AM offended about the various commenting which are 'laughing' at some peoples beliefs on 'how' and 'why' they've got SN children! Or even giving other 'problems' to God.
