know what you mean mrs F, i get the same feeling crying at extreme home makeover - then feel stupid for blubbin at cheesy american prog.

TheRealMrsF · 01/08/2005 17:55

yep! I also weep at the "extreme Makeover" programmes...the ones where they have Tummy Tucks....and their tummy was less saggty than mine!!!! (call me !!!!!)

Twiglett · 01/08/2005 18:05

oh gawd .. you guys need to watch extreme makeover (home edition) its on one of the discovery channels .. totally weep buckets there

Jimjams · 01/08/2005 18:05

OK here's my favourite poem and if anyone takes the p* I'll karate chop you

Silent but... by Tsuboi Shingeji

I may be silent but
I'm thinking.
I may not talk, but
Don't mistake me for a wall.

Not a SN one- but relevant to ds1

Tortington · 01/08/2005 18:08

thats anice one that one jimjams.

i meant home edition - i blub all the time at that one - even my kids laugh at me.

Fio2 · 01/08/2005 18:11

I am sorry if i have upset anyone, esp you MrsF. i really do not mock people. i just needed a release this morning, going stir crazy stuck in the house as its holidays and kids climbing the walls, no respite, husband in inida. i really am going mental and the poems are making it worse, feel free to slap me, but all accept my apologises because I didnt want to hurt anyone or start an argument. it puts me off posting too if I am honest because everything is misconstrude and i feel like I am losing the will to live sometimes with all this crap!

How on earth did a cheesy poetry thread cause offence???

QueenOfQuotes · 01/08/2005 18:16

sorry DH came home and needed to use the computer/phone for a while.

Yes I believe if you put all your trust in God he'll help you get through, in our lifes (DH and I) we put God first. We pray daily for him to lead us in the right direction to be able to survive, and he's not let us down. Everytime it looks like "this is it" (ie doomed to loose the house etc etc) we've been 'led' in the right direction.

Fio - I already said that I dislike these poems because I find them cheesy (it's the throwing insults about Christians around I didn't like).

Jimjams - it's true that God doesn't always seem to 'answer' our prayers in the way we would perhaps WANT him to. quite often the person being prayed for is simply given the strength to live the way their life as it is - but that doesn't mean to say he doesn't perform miracles.

Oh and as for extreme makeover (Home Edition) it ALWAYS has me in tears

I know this post may look like I'm trying to keep the argument going - but it's stuff I would have posted earlier had DH not needed the computer (and you know me - I have to say what I wanted to say - even if I'm 3 days late )

No hard feelings I hope

cowers in the corner incase she gets any smelly cheese poems thrown at her***

Jimjams · 01/08/2005 18:25

sorry qoq but the strength to keep me going comes from me, and me alone. Not God, and tbh it is quite iffensive to be told that this is god's will. But probably best to leave alone as Christians / non-Christians are never going to see eye to eye. Throw in disability and its a flammable mix.

coppertop · 01/08/2005 18:27

Fio - You shouldn't have to apologise for starting a thread in SN about SN poems! I thought it was a great thread. It also gave me a bl**dy good laugh just when I needed one.

Jimjams · 01/08/2005 18:31

Me too.

I had a look at some of the other ones on the poetry thread as well and they gave me a good laugh too. And KS you have had me in stitches, especially the bit about yoda speak as ds2 does that.

aloha · 01/08/2005 18:39

Anything that rhymes 'adapt' with 'handicapped' cannot be all bad
And it made me laugh too.

I just have this image of the writer thumbing through one of those rhyming dictionaries looking for something to rhyme with handicapped.

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 18:48

How about 'say their parents are 'special' and your asking to get slapped'

aloha · 01/08/2005 18:49

And I love the fact that 'he'll be known as handicapped' - as in, Hi Handicapped, pleased to meet you!

I think this is a very 'special' poem actually and one that is a privilege to read. It is clearly sent from God to make us better people.

Thank you for your words today
but next time pause I do you pray
the world of handicaps you may not know yet,
but one day you may get a gift heaven sent

then you'll find that meek and mild
is not a word associated with your child
"complex" seems to be a word
that is more commonly heard.

I'm still waiting for the privelege given
for having a child supposedly sent from heaven
after a day of wiping poo
headbanging and screaming too
I find a large glass of wine
is a just reward and suits me fine.

So please remember before next time
that we are here and just doing fine
our life is tricky that's for sure
but practical help would be useful more

I hope I got enough yoda-isms in....

Jimjams · 01/08/2005 19:07

change to

and after a day of wiping up poo
headbutting cars and screaming too

it fits better!

coppertop · 01/08/2005 19:07

Go Jimjams!

TheRealMrsF · 01/08/2005 19:08

fio- i'm fine- YOU have NOT upset me!
(just cringing in the corner with guilt as more than once i've snuck poems on this board...only realising today how sick i must have made people feel!!!! )

But FOR ME my expectations and experiences have been exactly that as described in THAT holland poem....

Here's MY version :

I always wanted children...
i struggled for 4 years to get pregnant....
the baby arrived

  • but he didn't want to feed from me,be comforted or cuddled. I was rejected and it hurt. Then as he grew he didn't want to do finger painting..nor play with toys ...just empty toy boxes and spin anything he could Then he started school and he was seen as 'active but odd' and 'Hyper' like a tornado- flattening anyone in sight.

After a diagnosis that shocked i realised that the life i planned was not what we had...but instead it was 'Different'......and VERY active and ODD.

(then 2 more boys i have- and they too are dancing to their own drum....and i try to be the conductor)

Jimjams · 01/08/2005 19:10

beirut beirut

coppertop · 01/08/2005 19:12

Oh, MrsF. You've got me blubbing again.

Don't feel guilty, you mad woman! The SN board is for all of us to post on.

TheRealMrsF · 01/08/2005 19:38
