ah im further east than you to near Colchester be intresting to compare what they are like when it comes to statemnets though obviously our ds are differnt

AttilaTheMeerkat · 08/05/2009 18:44

When I spoke to IPSEA, Essex were second on their list in terms of complaints received by parents re their LEA's!.

Phoenix4725 · 08/05/2009 18:50

lol that does not suprise me at all ,hang on it does thought Essex be number 1

bubblagirl · 08/05/2009 19:04

well good luck with the school phoenix i did think actually for his needs he would benefit so much more from sn school

so i'll keep all crossed for you there

well i shall let you all know what is written when it turns up

his school does sound good though they have a room they can time out in if it gets too much its for any child not just sn

also alot of knowledge on ASD but i can only hope they really are as good as they make out to be its so worrying knowing now that it all falls on me and if i miss anything it could affect him

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 11:24

well its here and my head hurts lol

theres so much writing

anyway they have offered him 20 hrs with no less than 5 hrs from the school on top of that so 25 hrs altogether

so its much better than i thought

im now reading through the actions parts to make sure all his needs are met and its hurting my head

Frasersmum123 · 09/05/2009 11:26

Great news!

misscutandstick · 09/05/2009 11:28

20hrs is good isnt it? how many hours does he need to be total 1:1 time?

good news so far!

has speech therapy been mentioned?

HelensMelons · 09/05/2009 11:29

that's good new Bubbla!

bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 11:35

over all i can see they have covered his sensory needs the fact that his communication needs help and that he is to be started in 2 person group and led up to small group before being expected to participate in class

it all seems appropriate to his needs from what im reading and the way they have written it seems acceptable they have put the fact he may need a break in there so to be taken out if needed

only thing we haven't got is assistance at lunch but i shall ask school if they can provide this just to help him ask for his dinner and seat him

and the fact they say he is independent with toilet and that he dresses himself these things he is prompt dependent not independent and cannot dress him self he can remove clothes but not put them on

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 11:37

i'll need to keep re reading for few days i guess but over all im happy with what is there so far they seem to have covered all his needs and the actions seem to be what i was hoping for

just hoping 25 hrs will be enough it would leave 2 hrs unstructured time a day which he may well struggle with but i think he may be able to handle this im really not sure

aaarggghh its so annoying i need to make sure its all ok i would hate for him to struggle

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 11:39

im still trying to work this out it says 20 hrs will be required which can be provided on whole class, small groups or individual basis so what does that mean

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 11:50

language skills

a- an environment where visual support is used consistently and effectively to aid understanding and to encourage independent participation

b- strategies developed jointly between SALT and teaching staff for classroom management of his communication needs, these targets will be implemented across the curriculum as part of daily routine

c- use of simple language and direct instructions of no more than 3 key words with adults using his name first in order to ensure his attention is gained before he is given instructions to follow

d- his understanding of concepts and vocab to be developed through rl experiences and within variety of contexts

e- encouragement to use timetable interactively in order to maximise independence

f- all adults in environment to provide opportunities for him to develop his functional communication skills in range of contexts

g- exposure to language that relates to what he is seeing and experiencing through out his day

h- adults repeating back his sentences in order to model specific vocab and the correct grammatical structure

i- visual cues and picture to support his learning at school, particularly when he is tired and an environment in which both adult and children are able to communicate with him through the use of gesture and simple signs

j- peers who can provide god language models and opportunities for small group and individual work on regular basis

20 hrs is either group, class or individual so what does that mean

school is 5 hrs min individual

OP posts:
Phoenix4725 · 09/05/2009 12:04

okthe 20 hrs means its not nesscary 1-1 means he be sharing with other children who dont have a statement or not one that supplys enough hrs basically its a extra member of staff in room ratio bubblaboy could be 1-1 for a bit 1-2 or 1 to how many are in his group .I was warned of that as that was one of my main concerns in that they might use his support to benefit other children which yes#i undertsand other children nee dhelp but on other hand case of tough that supports there for my ds and yes i know sounds bitchy

have they given you amount of salt as in hrs?

does ds ue makton or pecs Moondog wared me to insist on that all staff that will teach ds to be trained and to make sure its in the statement

Phoenix4725 · 09/05/2009 12:05

so means gets 1-1 for a hour a day but rst of time that member of staff will be used to assist a group could be up to 1-6

AttilaTheMeerkat · 09/05/2009 12:13

Hi bubblagirl

Have read your recent postings re the proposed Statement doc.

Its not too bad overall for one of Baz's Statements (which can be but just one step up from loo roll) but it could do with both improvement and tweaking. A - J sound awfully vague and need further clarification from the LEA. If they have not specifically mentioned the words 1 to 1 full time then it will likely be either whole class or small group work most of the time. All that needs to be further clarified because once agreed this particular LEA won't budge from this agreed statement lightly.

There is also no lunchtime support either (knew they would not provide that as it costs money!), and you will have to fight long and hard to get that for your DS.

I would be on the phone to one of the independent organisations I previously mentioned on Monday and run both parts 2 and 3 past them verbatim. Any speech/language issues he has needs to be in part 2. SALT provision in this area is patchy to say the least. You are likely aware of that already.

bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:24

right ok well he can be ok in small groups but does really need a bit more assisted on 1-1 basis so not sure what i do about that do i appeal on the grounds of 1-1 or do i leave and hope he gets on in small group

his speech is coming along its the speech sounds that are still atypical and they have mentioned use of cards to help him understand whats going on but no SALT hrs

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:27

oh this is so hard its confusing the hell out of me i know its down to me now to get this right or he'll struggle so bad

1-1 hasn't been mentioned on any task at all so i'm guessing i will need to appeal against this then

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:29

attilla could you help me with the vagueness as im not sure what it should be saying instead its all new to me and im confused already

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:35

in part 2 it says

bubblaboy can use language for a range of functions and can produce sentences of 3-4 words , his willingness to communicate can be defendant on his tiredness and he will stop speaking if he feels his not being understood he struggles with pronunciations of some letter sounds and his speech can be unclear

bubblaboy is able to follow simple instructions that are given to him individually and can answer some simple questions relating to immediate context, he understands a range of verbal instructions consistent of 3 word he sometimes needs familiarity of routines in order to understand the structure of his day

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:39

also it says bubbla boys individual ed plan will be designed delivered and monitored by school staff in consultation with parents and other profeessionals in order to implement bubbla boys individual plan 20 hrs per week of learning support assistance will be required which can be provided on a whole class, small group individual

so i have meeting with team around the child 21st this month do you think that means the school can say 1-1 at this meeting or do i need to appeal? as im reading it as a meeting with school will say whether group class or 1-1

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:41

oh just re read as well again the 5 hrs is group individual or class also provided by school so there is no 1-1 stated at all

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 12:43

it doesnt sound as good as i first thought now lol

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 09/05/2009 13:50

please anyone im confused not 1 mention of any 1-1 at all so i think i'll have no choice but to appeal

OP posts:
coppertop · 09/05/2009 15:03

I'm no help with statements but can bump the thread up.

bump!
