Congrats Dawn and 3girls, fantastic losses!

I've been shit today. My sister kept her word and provided lots of healthy options at her barbecue (tuna nicoise salad, homemade koftas, chicken breasts and corn on the cobs, which were all free.) Unfortunately, there were also some unhealthy options and I couldn't resist, so had a burger in a bun, coleslaw and potato salad (lots of mayo!) as well. Fingers crossed they won't have too much of a bad effect at WI tomorrow!

I'm struggling for syn free snacks that aren't fruit or veg. Any ideas? Am in 1st week so still getting my head round it all.

IsaacCox · 28/05/2013 09:05

Boiled eggs, muller lights, lean meats, pickled onions, mug shots. That's all I can think of at the mo :)

MrsHelsBels74, I am in my 1st week too and still trying to get my head around it as well, am not a lover of fruit so your question regarding syn free snacks is helping me as well Wink. Had a good day yesterday, total syns 7. Just need to keep the momentum up, I work full time and can get very lazy in the evenings so normally opt for a takeaway Blush

I have what Isaac has too! I also make up a pasta salad, which is just pasta, sweetcorn, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and a red and yellow pepper. Make a big tub up, then dish out little portions for snacks. It is full of flavour, and I don't put any dressing on. DP does, he puts free dressings on it, but I really like it without! You could do it with rice too.

Noodles are free, I eat those but put chilli powder in for spicy noodles!

A low syn snack is sugar free jelly. I don't like those 10cal pots which are 0.5 syns, so I make my own, and one sachet is 1.5 syns, well, that is a whole bowl full! You can add fruit to the jelly for getting your superfree in!

I must say, I tend to cook more, so snacks aren't as quick these days, and do have to be thought about in advance! I'm going to have a bowl of noodles mid morning today. I've just had a banana and muller light for breakfast though. So am already hungry!

Today I am thinking of one of my bacon and cheese toasties for lunch, but I've no mushrooms and tomatoes in to have as my superfree foods! Might just have to dig around and see what is left in the salad draw Confused. Probably manky old veg. Need to go shopping!

Last nights tea was yummy. I had a veggie bean burger from Iceland (3 syns compared to 5-6 in other brands) and put my HEB as mozzarella and roasted some peppers to put on my wholemeal bun. It was delicious! Am drooling now at the thought!

Any other good tea suggestions today? We want something with loads of veg for tonight!

MrsHelsBels74, I know you said no fruit, but I've recently found a delicious snack that is free and tastes yummy. Chop a banana into a bowl, cover with a banana and custard muller light yogurt then sprinkle over some cinnamon. Yum!

That burger sounds delish with mozzarella and peppers, TheDetective.

We're having homemade sausages, mash and loads of veg for dinner tonight. I can't wait already Grin

Detective that burger sounds lovely, especially as I'm a veggie

Thanks for snack suggestions also. I find pickled onions take my mind off being hungry as they are so strong!

I've had such a good week - partly due to not leaving the house since Friday! WI tomorrow night, hoping for a couple of pounds off.

Making the SW sausage casserole for the family tonight - my mum is helping (I live at home) :) Love cooking for my family, and love getting them involved. Everything we've tried so far from SW has been lovely and they've commented you can't tell it's "diet food" Grin

I'm not avoiding fruit because I don't like it, it's just it doesn't satisfy me the way fattier snacks do.

I think I'm addicted to sugar & fat so it will be good to get used to not eating so much of the bad stuff. And more fruit & veg can never be bad can it?

I want to lose about 4 1/2 stone which seems incredible (about 1/3 total body weight Shock). It just feels insurmountable at the moment. Once I start seeing the weight come off I'm sure it will start to seem more doable (I hope).

TheDetective · 28/05/2013 13:08

I want to lose around the same Hels. I've been doing it a month and 15lb is off now. It seems more achievable now for sure. I just wish it was quicker!!

I enjoy grilled mushrooms and tomatoes (put salt and pepper and dried oregano or basil on the tomatoes!) for a quick get home and starving snack. They are ready in less than 10 minutes. The portabello mushrooms are good for this. Feels naughty but it's not!

I need to find stuff that I don't have to cook though for when I go back to work!!

I've tended to stick with low syn snacks/treats that give you a sugar rush (and I've enjoyed!). These include the small 12.5g milky bars which are 4 syns. Jaffa cakes 2.5 syns each. Kit Kats 5.5 syns for a 2 bar one. I find the Kit Kat gives me a good boost and stops me running to the shop and buying lots of shit!!

Report
MrsHelsBels74 · 28/05/2013 13:15

My trouble at the moment is that I can't just eat one Jaffa cake or mini kitkat so at the moment it's easier not to have them in the house. Quite like the Options white chocolate at 2 syns but again have to limit myself.

Also, can anyone advise on those seafood sticks. SW booklet says free but app says 1 syn. I know they're rubbish but I like them Grin

I want to lose 5 stone, although it's 4 and a half now as I lost my first half stone a while back. Crazy to think that at the end of this journey, I'll be minus 1/3 of my total bodyweight Shock

I find I have to be rigid when it comes to snacks at the moment. If I even SMELL chocolate, my willpower goes and I over indulge. So I'm sticking to fruit, yoghurts and the occasional HiFi bar until I can be trusted not to fall off the wagon completely if I eat a KitKat.

I've just had a really nice salad - bulgar wheat and quinoa mix, cooked and mixed with some beetroot, carrot and cabbage, then lots of lemon juice and some soy sauce.

Even better when you consider DS2 was having fish and chips at the same time.

I need to get a syn book from somewhere, I am just going by the initial instruction book from group when I went last year.
