Dakota Johnson Sleeps for 14 Hours a Night

Ramalangadingdong · 12/12/2023 17:08

Dakota Johnson recently gave an interview where she says she sleeps for 14 hours a night, does transcendental meditation twice a day and has a lot of baths - especially if she feels anxious. She doesn't eat breakfast (just a latte or something) and works out a lot, strength training and pilates.

I wonder what time she goes to bed and what time she gets up? Does anyone on here sleep for more than 8 hours a day? Anyone up to the challenge of trying? What do you make of this?

I don’t know anyone who even manages to get 8 hours of sleep, let alone any more!

This is something that I always think about and I do think it’s a big reason why richer people/celebs are more healthy.

I remember watching Khloe kardashian who priorities exercise and is asleep by 9pm and wakes up at 4:30am to exercise before her kids wake up, which I think is a very healthy way to live but she has cleaners, cooks, nanny’s etc so everything is already done and therefore she can go to bed early and be able to get a decent sleep every night.

If you can afford help, so you can sleep more, then I think you’re much healthier.

BusySittingDown · 12/12/2023 20:01

I get at least 8 hours, I could probably go 10 some nights.

lesdeluges · 12/12/2023 20:01

Enough sleep is enough for you. With insomnia it's never enough.

I've made peace with my sleeping patterns now and rarely worry about it even if I occasionally happen to be awake for a while in the middle of the night.

In Winter I do however go to bed between 9 and 10. Despite everything we are advised, I watch my tablet and find myself nodding off after about an hour or so, and then turn on a podcast, put the flaps (eye mask) on, and I have never managed more than 10 mins of the podcast, zzzzz.

I have the waking up at night licked by now also. I watch a few rubbish youtube videos, then take (wait for it...) a Berrocca (well the Aldi knock off) fizzy tab in a smallish amount of water. Turn the podcast on again and GONE. I reckon it's the magnesium in the vitamins that knocks me out. So overall I get my 7 or 8 hours and I don't care that it's not all in one go, as that is very rare for me!

Any more than that and I'm sluggish and lethargic, but I do like resting in my bed, I was never a sofa lounger, always hated getting up from it to actually go to bed!

she doesn't sound like she has much else to do but meditate and take a bath bless her I'd probably sleep 14 hours with that much relaxation.

lesdeluges · 12/12/2023 20:04

I would imagine that to get 14 hours straight asleep there might be little prescription meds involved somehow.

Nosleepforthismum · 12/12/2023 20:07

This sounds like an absolute dream (for one night at least). I think my kids have broken me. I now will wake up without fail at 2am, heart pounding with anxiety that somethings wrong and then again at 5am ready to start the day. Nothing’s ever wrong and I wake up before the kids most days.

stayathomer · 12/12/2023 20:08

I remember watching an interview in the 00s with Jane Fonda and two other extremely famous actresses (perhaps meryl Streep and Bette midler?) and one, perhaps Jane, said she couldn’t survive on less than 9 hours sleep and the other one laughed and said she didn’t know people could sleep for 9 hours!

Even before I got ill, I was sleeping 8 hours a night. Always have too.
id have thought that in bed at 10.00pm, up at 7.00am was pretty common. And that will easily give you 8 hours of sleep.

Dh sleeps a similar number of hours and so do my dcs (young adults).

App13 · 12/12/2023 20:21

I've slept minimum 8 hours a day since birth and do believe it contributes to less baggy eyes and better skin

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2023 20:29

I can sleep 8-10 hours although I'll wake up during the night but I feel I get not to bad a sleep.

ManchesterLu · 12/12/2023 20:42

I feel absolutely awful if I sleep for more than about 9 hours. I'm cliched but 8 hours is the sweet spot for me. I'd feel like I was absolutely wasting my life if I was living like she claims to.

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2023 20:43

I love my bed especially in winter I can't wait to go to bed/sleep.

jay55 · 12/12/2023 20:43

Maybe she makes up a load of bollocks to see what ridiculous things she can get printed.

I would if I had to do daft interviews all the time.

Only eat red skittles, and only when the moon is full on a Wednesday.

LeggyLegsEleven · 12/12/2023 20:44

I thought they had proved that sleeping too much was bad for you. Humans are not meant to be inactive for so long, even if she doesn’t then exercise.
My MIL given the option would sleep all night, get up and eat, and then sleep all day. Unhealthiest person I ever met.

Missingmyusername · 12/12/2023 20:45

Lucky Dakota 🤣
I could when I was younger, usually after a big night out and a McDonald’s.
I’m lucky to get 6 hours now!

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 12/12/2023 20:47

Seems absurd to me, but I typically average about 6 hours a night. Often less, and I don't feel good for it.

8 hours is the right amount for me and I'm trying to be a bit more disciplined about it, but failing miserable. I'm a night owl who unfortunately starts work at 7am.

14 hours doesn't sound pleasant to be honest. I'd feel like I'd wasted the day.

StaunchMomma · 12/12/2023 20:47

I thought 9 hours or more, especially regularly, was bad for you?

How does she get anything done?!!

Leafysuburb · 12/12/2023 20:47

I'm lucky if I can get 3 hours, I just wake up at 2am and can't stop stressing and end up getting up and starting the day

I assumed most people woke up earlier than 7am.

I wake up at 5:00am (week days).
So I’d have to be asleep by 9pm and I don’t get home until about 6pm, so it only gives me 3 hours to cook, clean, exercise, parenting, homework, relaxing, baths etc.

I love my sleep and so I do try and go as early as possible but I always wonder how people manage to get 8 hours.
I guess if you don’t need to wake up until 7am then it’s easier as you don’t have to go to bed so early.

Ramalangadingdong · 12/12/2023 21:26

InattentiveADHD · 12/12/2023 19:21

I rarely get it but need about 9 hours sleep a night. I think that's a lot. I am ND so think my sleep isn't great quality hence needing so much. 14 hours seems extreme. How does she get anything done?!?

“How does she get anything done?”

Servants?

sounds like a publicity stunt to me. nobody gets 14 hrs (!!!) a night. Probably saying it so people like us have a gossip online and raise her profile.

Josette77 · 12/12/2023 21:43

She never said she sleeps 14 hours a night though. Why are people acting like she does.

She sleeps different amounts depending on her work schedule.

If she can take a bath in the middle of the day and wants to she will.

She meditates.

She also talks about her battle with depression since she was 15 which she discusses as well.

OP you really should have quoted her properly if you were going to start a thread and have people bash her.

Gnomegnomegnome · 12/12/2023 21:45

@Josette77 where is the article?

Rachaelc1981 · 12/12/2023 21:51

One word ……. Bitch !! Haha only joking. I’m just massively jealous of her sleeping arrangements. If I’m lucky I’ll sleep 14 hrs in 3 days. I have a 12,8 and 2.5 year old. I home school 12 and 8 year old and 2.5 year old just doesn’t sleep period !!

Sidebeforeself · 12/12/2023 21:55

Nine hours every night here and 10 minimum on a weekend. However it’s not always constant deep sleep, but I wouldn’t say Im fully awake either. If i need to have a wee, im asleep again before my head hits the pillow. I don’t know why people are saying its a sign of illness if you have always been like this
